Greetings friends of this amazing community, I hope you are having a nice week full of innovative and creative projects.
Today I want to show you an idea of what I do with this pile of little crayons that are left over when I finish using them.
Whenever classes are over, these little crayons are always abandoned at the bottom of the pencil cases and since nothing can be lost, they have to be reused and I really liked this idea to be able to continue painting with them when they are so small that you can't even hold them.
To begin with I am going to tell you the things we need to make these watercolors:

  • Small or old creyones of different colors
  • Container with divisions or plastic lids
  • Scissors
  • Cutter (optional)
  • Patience

The first thing to do is to collect all the crayons (I also used some not so small but with split wood), then we look for a container with divisions or several plastic lids in which we can place the inside of the crayons or the mines. I used a small container from an empty eyeshadow palette.

Then we proceed to cut the wood of the crayons lengthwise, I used a scissors to make it safer for my fingers and in some parts I helped myself with a small knife, this process of extracting the mines is a little slow and varies the difficulty depending on the quality of the creyon.

After extracting the mines, we place them in small pieces in the container of our choice, separated by color, but combinations can also be made.

With the dropper or injector we are going to add drops of warm water to each color, leave for a couple of hours and we will see how the mines absorb the water, little by little we are adding more water. This process is slow as the mines are softening.

After a few hours we will see that the mines have become very soft so with a stick we stir them a little and fix them well inside the container, if necessary we add another drop of water.

Once this process is finished we can start painting whatever we want, I let them dry until the next day because previously when I used them very wet I wasted a lot of paint and it didn't give the watercolor effect. When I made these watercolors the first time, I thought that they were not going to paint very well since some school colors are not so creamy, but I was really surprised by the intensity of the colors and above all that they dissolve well when you pass the brush over them.
This idea is great for kids, my son doesn't like coloring much unlike me but when he saw the watercolors he really wanted to use them and that excites me a lot.

I hope you try this idea with the small crayons to give them another chance, it will be a lot of fun for the little ones at home, they won't regret it.
