Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge - Beware the Sand Worm

Another week, another Splinterlands battle challenge, this time focused on the Sand Worm monster!

The Sand Worm is a Common Neutral monster, available in the Reward card set. It's a hard hitting melee monster with Sneak at level 1, but has a high cost with it requiring 9 mana and can be slow starting at 1 speed. When I started out playing in novice and bronze leagues, it was a good card to have in line up, but has proven to be more situational in usage for me during matches at the silver tier.

It certainly came in helpful in a recent battle, let's get into the breakdown!

My line up:

1. Chain Golem
2. Sand Worm
3. War Chaang

This was an Up Close & Personal match, with Noxious Fumes. With melee attacks required and poison sapping two health every turn, I need some heavy hitters that could outlast the poison. To top it off, I used Mylor Crowling again - the thorns ability in an Up Close & Personal match is excellent for getting an edge.

You might remember War Chaang from the last challenge, focused on retaliation - it's back again bringing up the rear for the same reasons (and throwing in some nice range damage).

Sand Worm can be the star of the show here, the Sneak ability allows me to spread the pain and hit the rear monster in the lineup. My opponent also has a Sand Worm, but ultimately falls to the Poison + Thorns + Retaliate damage. It's a super quick bout, lasting barely over a round with the Thorns + Poison wiping out most of the line up.

Another place where Sand Worm can shine is with Blast rules, the Sneak + high damage output + Blast can certainly wreak some havoc.
