Are We in the Old Testament’s Tribulations?

in TruthSeekerslast year (edited)

According to the Vedic texts, current age of Brahma is 50 Brahma years and 1 brahma day (we are in the 1st day of 2nd half of brahma) and we are in the seventh "manvantara", in the 28th turnover of its 71 yuga cycles. In this cycle, we are in the start Kali Yuga.

So, cool cool cool, yeah, Kali Yuga, got it.
…wait, I guess as long as I’m here…what exactly does that mean?

The Vedic texts describe time in a cyclic model, which phases through various yugas, or periods, each of some extremely great magnitude. Each yuga is part of a repeating cycle too complex for me to get into, but awesome to learn about outside of here. Each yuga has its own characteristics and outlooks.

Now, of course the yugas are described as being phases of an exponentially low frequency cycle, and the Vedas that describe them were written some time around 1500-1200 BCE. So yeah, I mean, maybe they could have sat back and been like…hmmm, I bet maybe in x hundreds of thousands of years it’ll be a shit show - but for me it speaks volumes how accurately ancient words can describe the day and age in which we are living. Of course, we’re only in the beginning, so we’re not 100% recognizing people based on wealth and power, but it is a pretty widespread phenomenon, and it’s not hard to foresee this trend gaining traction over the next however many thousand years if we all don’t change soon.

So what do the other, allegedly separate doctrines say about our current world?

Well, the Christian word doesn’t specify anything in terms of direct numbers and years, so we can’t calculate exactly where the tribulations and stuff occur in time. However, we can take a look at the precursors to tribulations, which are given and do seem to match with our unfolding situation.

“Many shall run to and fro” (Daniel 12:4): This prophetic trend comes to mind anytime we’re on a busy highway or flying out of a busy airport. Around the world there are now over a billion cars, and millions of passengers fly rapidly through the skies every day.

“Knowledge shall increase” (Daniel 12:4): According to sources cited by Boston Commons High Tech Network, up to around the year 1900 human knowledge doubled about every century. By the end of World War II, knowledge was doubling every 25 years. Now our information base is doubling every 12 months, on the way to doubling about every 12 hours. Also, age of Aquarius, age of knowing I think right?

The capability exists for humanity to destroy all life: “And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved” (Matthew 24:22). The capacity for humans to destroy all life on the planet did not exist until after 1945, with the advent of the atomic era. Since then, the proliferation of nuclear weapons has made the destruction of all life possible—multiple times over.

Increase in famines, disease epidemics and earthquakes: “And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places” (Matthew 24:7). There have been food shortages, pandemics and earthquakes at times throughout human history. But Christ’s specific mention of them in the context of end-time events shows that they will become a much more notable, frequent phenomenon.

Ability to view an event around the world: Revelation 11:3-11 reveals that shortly before Christ returns, His “two witnesses”—who will testify to the world from Jerusalem for 42 months (3½ years)—will be killed. “Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues and nations will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days” (verse 9). For people all around the world to view this, the technology will need to already exist. Not only is this now possible, most of us now see images from other nations daily via satellites.

An army of 200 million can be fielded: Revelation 9:13-19 describes another event near the end of the 3½ years, during the sixth trumpet. Verse 16 shows that an enormous army will be fielded at that time: “The number of cavalry troops was 200,000,000. I heard how many there were” (International Standard Version). Furthermore, this comes after staggering numbers of humans have already died, as revealed in chapters 6 through 9. The ability to field such an exceptionally large army was not possible until recent times, when the populations of some nations (such as China and India, for example) or groups of nations grew so dramatically.

Sacrifices at Jerusalem to begin: Daniel 12 points specifically to events at the end of this age (verses 4, 9). Verse 1 calls it the worst time of trouble in human history, which coincides with Christ’s words in Matthew 24:21. How long until all these things are finished? Daniel 12:7 answers “for a time, times and half a time.” This expression, also mentioned in other prophecies, equates with the final 3½ years (or 1,260 days) before Christ returns.

While the Hindus see things in repeating cycles, the Christians see the same unfolding as effectively a “one shot deal.” …but the New Testament was written at least 500 years after the death of Jesus - there could be any number of reasons for this discrepancy. Perhaps Jesus wanted people to get the most important part as it applied to them, and not freak them out with a completely revolutionary view of their relationship to the cosmos and time. Perhaps it was something else. Perhaps God made the aforementioned omission when he spoke to Jesus. Perhaps woo woo woo. The point is there are differences between the world’s doctrines, but they are such that each one feels like a partial print from the same finger, like maybe it’s a puzzle and we all got just enough pieces in common to make us realize we have to share all of our pieces to figure out the whole picture. I don’t know, maybe that’s just me bein’ a silly goose again.

But, what say the Quran with regard to our modern era?

“And by the heaven full of tracks” (51:8)

The Quran has others as well, but this one was different; a missing puzzle piece which adds in to our greater picture.

Well, there it is. I’m not saying we’re in tribulations right now, I know people have been saying it since as long as it’s been written. I guess what I’m saying is, I can see how it might look that way. What about you? Think there’s any truth to an end of days (or at least days as we know it) scenario on our foreseeable horizon?

Thanks for your time and open minded consideration my friends, stay on the path, I love you and I wish you joy and peace.

I can understand what you say, the signals are everywhere but I think is not yet... we are close but not there yet.

Fair enough. Do you hope to be there for it? Or are you more like hoping you live a long peaceful life and it just happens later? Lol - not a joke or being facetious, genuinely curious :)

I would rather live my normal and peaceful life.

to live, to know, to be and to see all the things that I have always wanted, to enjoy the things that I have wanted and to leave in peace.

and you?

Sorry for the long delay, I really appreciate your response! I’ve typed several responses but every time I try, this answer that should be so simple seems to escape words.

I’ve pretty much always felt the same way but I think maybe I’m starting to feel like what we’re accepting as normal and peaceful are changing very quickly. I believe we create the world in our own vision though, so it’s still possible we could have a special (as in the whole species, not special like a birthday party with shiny hats and gift bags lol) quantum leap to a higher vibration, or it could be the forces of darkness will make a tremendous gain in power and finally reveal themselves?

I guess I think something’s coming, and what I grew up knowing as normal and peaceful are already so far distant anything now does feel a bit like settling. Also I’m very tired all the time lately. Also it would be cool to be there for the rapture I think. Scary? Yes of course, but how amazing to be there when the creator of all things shows up to clean house!

…well, even this feels like a terrible answer and I want to delete it all and start over, but at some point you’ve just got to do your best and answer the damn question hahaha!

Thanks again for your comment, I really appreciate you checking it out and saying something!

I don't like any religion but I don't think that people born of richness or wiser more or less than people born of poor. Your life and what you do with it with a consider what you've learned in life .

Tends to be true, yeah, wealthier families can support the full costs of education, which shapes the mind and future of the child. Also I tend to agree that clinging to any one religion as the absolute and sole truth is probably likely to miss the true nature of spirituality.
