Experience taught me that, in business, the heart and feelings are not enough, all my life I worked in companies, but I always had to undertake other things to supplement the income at home, so at one time I was a loan shark and went bankrupt, then I sold clothes and went bankrupt, my extra capital ran out, but I learned many life lessons. The personal problems of others are not your problems, if they acquire a debt they should pay it, forgive every client, it makes you vulnerable and those who are profiteers wait for that to take advantage of you, business is business and friendship should not be mixed with this.

I remember many cases that I lived in the period of lender, friends asked me for money to buy medicines and I was unable to charge them interest, to buy school supplies, uniforms to their children, etc., I felt like a person who took advantage of other people's needs, then I became a gift, I did not charge some people, others did not even bother to pay me and in the end I went bankrupt, with clothes something similar happened, clients who did not have enough money to dress their children and I gave them a lot of ease to pay, but they never did it because of the excess of confidence that I gave them or because of the existing bond between us, in the end I went bankrupt too.

In the blink of an eye the country changed, everything was devalued and I had to start from scratch, I started selling ice cream, I had touched the bottom of the need, thinking about the good of others, those relatives, friends, co-workers and neighbors, I never saw them want to compensate what they took from me, I understood that money is not anyone's friend, I passed my consequences and this led me to a certain degree of insensitivity, the stories of "tea I pay later" I knew them all, so I was a little more disciplined in the new venture.

So I started with a bit of embarrassment, since I was not used to be a town crier, in the other ventures they came to me, in this one I had to go to them (the clients), what I did not count on was that my main clients would be children, the endless experiences knowing their innocence, their pain, their feelings, their experiences, I felt that I had to go to them (the clients), I was not responsible for the lives of those children, their parents were like animals that leave their young to the fate of the jungle, the best survives, but it is one thing to say it in words and another to see it and live it in the flesh.

My entrepreneurship as an ice cream maker came about because I did not have to invest any capital, only my time and dedication, yes, I had to render my accounts clear every day to the person who gave me that support in such a difficult economic moment, I walked many kilometers daily, enduring sun, rain and sometimes cold when the night caught me, because many times if I did not achieve the goal set for that day, I had to go to other more distant places in search of new customers.

The first day of work I arrived exhausted and only earned 2000 bolivars, I complained a lot about the little income, but my wife and my comadre (who made the ice cream) encouraged me to continue, the second day I earned 3000, and so at the end of the week ten dollars (15000 bolivars before) of net profit for me, when in a company I earned three dollars a week, It was still not enough but it was better than staying at home watching the ceiling, with the passing of time I achieved a salary of 25 dollars a week, I no longer walked so much because I had regular customers and to shorten distances I gathered a dollar a day of my earnings and I dedicated it to save them until I bought a bicycle that made my job easier, it cost me 40 dollars at that time

My childhood friends criticized me a lot about my business, that it was a lot of work for so little pay, that they preferred not to do anything, I simply told them that when you love your family you do what you can to support them, I did not want to go into details with them, their wives and children were helpless, because they did not care if they left or stayed, today everyone is alone, economic crises make us reinvent ourselves, adapt or conform, but it is in those moments when you know your capabilities and give value to what really matters in your life.

I remember one December that all of them were lamenting not having been able to buy new cars for their children and wife, but I did it by dint of ice cream and I bought a bicycle, this made me feel proud of the honest work, I showed them that perseverance is what brings us some possibility to withstand the onslaught of the country's situation.

But as in every job everything was not rosy, I faced things that made me cry internally many times, day after day while my period as an ice cream maker lasted, I will tell them and I leave to your judgment to decide whether it was right or wrong, what I had to do or endure to solve the situation of my home, so I titled this post the heartless ice cream maker.

In my early days I gave an ice cream to a beggar, elderly or child who asked me for it, (only one per day) this was something similar to paying my tithes, but over time there were several ice creams that I lost between the loan that never paid and what I gave away, One day I gave a girl an ice cream in the middle of a food fair that they do on the weekends and I was approached by a crowd of children who also wanted me to give them an ice cream, there I understood that I should not give any of them to not disturb the hornet's nest, so I began to harden my heart, they no longer convinced me with any argument: I live in the street, I haven't eaten anything, I would like to know what those ice creams taste like, I haven't had one for a long time....

I tried to counteract those excuses and I would tell them, tell your dad to give you money to buy and the painful and sincere answers would come: I don't have a dad, my mom is the breadwinner and doesn't earn much, my parents say that eating ice cream is a luxury; Others approached me with their half-dead sheep eyes, the expression in their eyes was so true, so sweet, so tender, so humble, so sincere, but in this undertaking I could not afford the luxury of having feelings, that has always represented losses and in the end ruin, this time the capital was not mine and I had to be accountable daily, my family needed its supplier, I am simply not guilty of the irresponsibility of so many parents, all this I repeated day after day.

On one occasion a girl came up to me and proposed to exchange her food for an ice cream and I asked her who gave her that food and she told me that she had earned it by helping the hawkers to sweep and pick up the garbage, then I asked her what she would eat next if she exchanged my food, I asked him what I would eat next if he exchanged the food, and he told me nothing, but that I was used to it, those who read this will say give him the ice cream and that's it, but I was in the market where the multitude of children were waiting for someone to give them something, and believe me it hurt me but it was a decision I had to make to continue my peace with the sale.

The various changes in the monetary stability of the country, made me leave that venture that lasted about a year and a few months, my customers were upset at every increase or adjustment that was made to the product, this happened more than two years ago and today I am remembering how I became a heartless ice cream maker.
