¡Hola amigos visuales de #Hive!... Esta semana me he salido un poco de mi "estándar de calle" e hice una caminata hasta las colinas cercanas al pueblo... Entonces, aproveché el clima seco, cálido y con brisa para relajarme, respirar y por supuesto ¡Hacer un montón de fotos!... Y esta publicación es un resumen comentado de esa caminata. Obviamente, es un artículo bastante gráfico, pero también he dejado algunas lineas diversas cuya tónica tiene mucho que ver con el ambiente, mis reflexiones, la naturaleza y este lugar en sí mismo... ¡Adelante con las fotos entonces!
Hello #Hive visual friends!.... This week I stepped a bit out of my "street standard" and took a hike up into the hills near town.... So, I took advantage of the dry, warm, breezy weather to relax, breathe and of course Make a bunch of photos!.... And this post is an commented summary of this hike. Obviously, it is a quite graphic article, but I have also left some diverse lines whose tonic has a lot to do with the environment, my reflections, nature and this place itself... Let's go with the photos!
Son casi las 10 AM cuando decido dejar atrás el pueblo y poner rumbo a los caminos de tierra que me llevan a las colinas... Es Marzo, es quizás nuestro mes de mayor calor y más sequía, así que no es de extrañar que la temperatura ronde los 36°C a esta hora... ¡Pero no importa!... ¡Sentí ganas de salir a caminar con mi cámara y eso es lo importante!.
It's almost 10 AM when I decide to leave the village behind and head for the dirt roads that lead me to the hills... It's March, perhaps our hottest and driest month, so it's not surprising that the temperature is around 36°C at this time... But no matter!... I felt like going for a walk with my camera and that's what's important!.
Justo donde termina el pueblo y comienza el campo, mi amigo José Machado (también conocido como "Machete") me ve venir y me dice: ¿Vas a las colinas?... ¡Morirás por el calor apenas comiences a subir y el sol te calcine! y luego suelta una carcajada... Entonces yo le contesto: ¡No moriré hasta ver que los extraterrestres te secuestren y te lleven por ser el único humano que usa ese extraño sombrero rojo en todo el planeta!... Las risas de ambos no se hacen esperar... ¡Así es humor de estos pueblos!, así es su gente, humana, dicharachera, simple y agradable.
Just where the town ends and the countryside begins, my friend José Machado (also known as "Machete") sees me coming and says: Are you going to the hills???... You will die by the heat as soon as you start to climb and the sun burns you! and then he bursts out laughing... Then I reply: I won't die until I see the aliens abduct you and take you away for being the only human wearing that strange red hat on the whole planet!.... The laughter from both of us is not long in coming.... Such is the humor of these people, such are their people, human, talkative, simple and pleasant.
Al pie de las colinas, hay un valle estrecho por el cual atraviesa el camino principal y de lado y lado hay potreros para que el ganado paste.
At the foot of the hills, there is a narrow valley through which the main road crosses and on both sides there are pastures for cattle to graze.
A pesar de la sequía (o quizás gracias a ella) las vistas de los potreros son hermosas, en algunos incluso han cortado el pasto y se puede observar el horizonte de manera encantadora... El aire sigue siendo tibio, pero al mismo tiempo la cantidad de oxigeno parece incrementarse y respirar se vuelve algo delicioso.
In spite of the drought (or maybe thanks to it) the views of the pastures are beautiful, in some of them they have even cut the grass and you can see the horizon in a charming way... The air is still warm, but at the same time the amount of oxygen seems to increase and breathing becomes delightful.
Cuando yo era un niño (hace poco menos de medio siglo) muy pocas personas criaban cabras aquí en Montalbán... Pero con el paso de los años estos animales son cada vez más comunes en los campos aledaños al pueblo, e incluso en algunas casas... Las viejas matronas dicen que su leche es mejor para alimentar a los bebés recién nacidos, pues contiene muchas más grasas... Pero lo cierto es que fue la crisis económica la que motivó el incremento de cabras en los campos, pues no todos campesinos podían cuidar y mantener las vacas... ¡Estas cabras parecen poder comer incluso piedras!... je je je :)... ¡Y son muy simpáticas!.
When I was a kid (a little less than half a century ago) very few people raised goats here in Montalbán... But over the years these animals have become more and more common in the fields around the village, and even in some houses... The old matrons say that their milk is better for feeding newborn babies, because it contains much more fat... But the truth is that it was the economic crisis which motivated the increase of goats in the fields, because not all peasants could take care and maintain the cows... These goats seem to be able to eat even stones!... ha ha ha :)... And they are very nice!
El camino se empina abruptamente y el ascenso impacta de inmediato en mi ánimo (no soy precisamente un atleta)... El paisaje cambia un poco, los arboles lucen más desnudos y el calor es mayor, pero (gracias a Dios) la brisa es más intensa y fresca, eso ayuda bastante a seguir adelante sin desear tener algún tipo de "botón teletransportador" para pulsarlo y aparecer como por arte de magia en la sala de mi casa.
The path steepens abruptly and the ascent immediately impacts my mood (I'm not exactly an athlete)... The landscape changes a bit, the trees look more bare and the heat is greater, but (thank God) the breeze is more intense and fresh, that helps a lot to keep going without wishing I had some kind of "teleport button" to press and magically appear in my living room.
Mi amigo Bartolo murió en Enero de este año, una enfermedad nos lo arrebató siendo aún un hombre fuerte y jovial... Sus vacas siguen allí, en sus tierras. Pero ahora son cuidadas y mantenidas por sus hijos y nietos... ¡Amo el rostro de estas vacas, parecen siempre estar a punto de sonreír!... Y si observan a la derecha de esta foto verán un lindo perrito de color negro el cual suele cuidar las vacas... ¡Es todo un guardián y evita que se vayan lejos!.
My friend Bartolo died in January of this year, an illness took him away from us when he was still a strong and jovial man... His cows are still there, on his land. But now they are cared and maintained by his sons and grandsons.... I love the face of these cows, they always seem to be about to smile!.... And if you look to the right of this photo you will see a cute little black dog who usually guards the cows.... He's a real guardian and keeps them from going far away!
¡Hay un nuevo "bebé vaca" en el viejo corral de Bartolo!... Son animales nobles, algunos incluso se acercan a mi para ser acariciados o para comer pequeñas hojas de pasto que arranco de la orilla del camino.
There is a new "baby cow" in Bartolo's old corral!... They are noble animals, some even come close to me to be petted or to eat small blades of grass that I pluck from the roadside.
Más allá de todo, vengo aquí a hacer fotos... ¡Y un retrato es algo que no puede dejar de hacer un fotógrafo cuando se presenta la oportunidad!... Así que este joven (y bastante pensativo) toro, fue algo que no pude dejar escapar cuando le miré detalladamente... ¿Han visto un rostro más encantador?... ¡Sí, ya sé que estoy sonando extraño!... Pero es que los animales me traen de cabeza, les amo, confieso que les amo... ¡Dejé de comer carnes cuando tenía 20 años de edad!... je je je... ¡Casi maté de un infarto a mi Padre, cuyo apetito por la carne era legendario y además era un aficionado acérrimo de la tauromaquia!... ¡Pero esa es otra historia y una muy larga por cierto!.
Beyond everything else, I come here to take pictures... And a portrait is something a photographer can't help but do when the opportunity presents itself!... So this young (and rather pensive) bull, was something I couldn't miss when I looked at him in detail... Have you ever seen a more charming face?... Yes, I know I'm sounding strange!... But animals drive me crazy, I love them, I confess that I love them... I stopped eating meat when I was 20 years old!... heh heh heh... I almost killed my father with a heart attack, whose appetite for meat was legendary and who was also a staunch fan of bullfighting!... But that's another story and a very long one at that.
El paisaje es encantador, este año no hemos tenido incendios forestales (hasta el momento cuando menos) y algunos bosques bajos conservan cierto verdor... Al fondo, esa formación rocosa se llama "El Peñón" y en Montalbán es prácticamente una especie de "tótem cotidiano" el cual puede observarte desde cualquier rincón del valle... Su altura es de 1.250 mts sobre el nivel del mar, según pude medir alguna vez con un altímetro (cuando tenía 30 años y llegaba allí caminando fácilmente).
The landscape is enchanting, this year we have not had forest fires (so far at least) and some low forests retain a certain greenness... In the background, that rock formation is called "El Peñón" and in Montalbán it is practically a kind of " daily totem" which can observe you from any corner of the valley... Its height is 1,250 meters above sea level, as I could once measure with an altimeter (when I was 30 years old and I got there walking easily).
Y hablando de paisajes, ese árbol de flores naranja que ven en la derecha foto, pertenece es conocido como "Cañafistola Llanera" (Cassia moschata) aunque algunas personas (entre ellos yo hasta hace pocos días atrás) le conocemos simplemente como "Amarillo"... ¡Y es un árbol encantador, por eso le hice más fotos!.
And speaking of landscapes, that orange flowering tree you see on the right of this photo, is known as "Cañafistola Llanera" (Cassia moschata) although some people (including me until a few days ago) know it simply as "Amarillo"... And it's a lovely tree, that's why I took more photos of it!
En estas fotos pueden observar la fantástica floración de este árbol (y detrás verán la montaña llamada "Marquero" o "Paragüito" la cual tiene una altura 1.717 metros sobre el nivel del mar)... EL olor de las flores de este árbol es muy especial, pues literalmente "huele como la miel de abejas" y entonces, al estar cerca de sus flores, se puede respirar su delicioso aroma.
In these photos you can see the fantastic flowering of this tree (and behind you will see the mountain called "Marquero" or "Paragüito" which has a height of 1,717 meters above sea level)... The smell of the flowers of this tree is very special, because it literally "smells like bee honey" and then, being close to its flowers, you can breathe its delicious aroma.
Miren este lindo nido que hacen unas aves llamadas "Tutí" en las ramas de la "Cañafistola"... Es una lastima que esas aves no estuviesen allí al momento de de hacer estas fotos, pero quizás en otra oportunidad pueda lograr fotografiarlas junto con su nido.
Look at this beautiful nest that some birds called "Tutí" make in the branches of the "Cañafistola"... It is a pity, but those birds were not there at the time of taking these photos, but maybe another time I can photograph them together with the nest.
Estuve quizás durante una hora y media bajo ese encantador árbol de Cañafistola... Hice varias fotos, después me senté recostado de su tronco y me dediqué a disfrutar de la brisa fresca y del descenso de temperatura generado por la sombra. También cerré los ojos y aspiré profundo el intenso olor a miel que desprenden las flores en sus ramas... Por un momento fui "solo yo mismo" y todo al rededor comenzó a parecer menos sólido, más pasajero, menos cierto... Llevo años aprendiendo a meditar, con el paso del tiempo esto me sucede casi sin proponermelo... Pero esa también es otra historia y quizás estoy apenas "a la mitad de ella".
I was perhaps for an hour and a half under that lovely tree of Cañafistola.... I took several photos, then I sat down leaning against its trunk and enjoyed the cool breeze and the drop in temperature generated by the shade. I also closed my eyes and inhaled deeply the intense smell of honey given off by the flowers in its branches... For a moment I was "just myself" and everything around me began to seem less solid, more transient, less certain... I have been learning to meditate for years, with the passage of time this happens to me almost without even thinking about it... But that is also another story and perhaps I am only "in the middle of it".
Después de recobrar mi energía debajo del árbol de Cañafistola, decidí escalar un poco más por el camino principal. Literalmente "comencé a asarme dentro de mi ropa" pues eran quizás la 1PM y el sol estaba prácticamente sobre mi cabeza... ¡Pero yo amo fotografiar los bosques secos!... Así que caminé hasta divisar uno lo suficientemente seco para fotografiarlo (Esas ramas desnudas son una exquisitez abstracta imposible de pasar por alto).
After regaining my energy under the Cañafistola tree, I decided to climb a little further up the main trail. I literally "started to roast inside my clothes" as it was maybe 1PM and the sun was practically over my head.... But I love photographing dry forests!.... So I walked until I spotted one dry enough to photograph (Those bare branches are an abstract delicacy impossible to miss).
¡Y vaya sí está seco este bosque!... ¡No me quiero imaginar lo que sucedería si tenemos un incendio este año!... Pero espero que antes de que eso suceda, las lluvias lleguen (Quizás para los primeros días del mes de Mayo, algún aguacero renueve el follaje de estos pequeños bosques de la baja montaña, esas son las fechas en la que esto suele suceder)... ¡Pero por ahora, hay que hacer fotos!.
And how dry this forest is!... I don't want to imagine what would happen if we have a fire this year!.... But I hope that before that happens, the rains will come (maybe by the first days of May, some rainfall will renew the foliage of these small forests of the low mountains, those are the dates when this usually happens).... But for now, it is necessary to take pictures!
¡Amé esta foto!... ¡Es tan abstracta!... En algunas partes, el bosque está lo suficientemente cerca del camino (y lo suficientemente seco) como para hacer esto usando mi lente zoom 55-300mm... ¡Es un caos divino de luz, ramas, relieve y cielo!... ¡Incluso hay otro árbol de cañafistola allí, en medio de todo ese divino y natural caos visual!... ¡Oh, me siento afortunado cuando me "suceden" estas fotos!.
I loved this photo!... It's so abstract!.... In some parts, the forest is close enough to the road (and dry enough) to do this using my 55-300mm zoom lens.... It's a divine chaos of light, branches, relief and sky!... There's even another cañafistola tree there, in the middle of all that divine, natural visual chaos!... Oh, I feel lucky when these photos "happen" to me.
¡Y repentinamente me siento observado!... Se trata de un hermoso bebé burrito que va de bajada por el camino... Estos lindos animales son muy comunes aquí en Montalbán (aquellos que siguen mis publicaciones, se habrán percatado de que siempre hay algunos de ellos entre mis fotos)... Las personas los usan para llevar lo que siembran y también para traer víveres desde el pueblo hasta sus casas en las montañas. También han proliferado desde que en el país hay escasez de combustibles... Este borrico de la fotos es aún joven y parece andar disfrutando del camino, pues pasó raudo hacia abajo sin detenerse.
And suddenly I feel watched!... Is a beautiful baby donkey going down the road... These cute animals are very common here in Montalbán (those who follow my posts will have noticed there are always some of them among my photos)... People use them to carry what they sow and also to bring food from the town to their houses in the mountains. They have also proliferated since there is a fuel shortage in the country... This donkey in the photos is still young and seems to be enjoying the road, as it sped down without stopping.
Una sombra y un chillido me recuerdan que es hora de regresar a casa, se trata de un hermoso Halcón Reidor (Herpetotheres cachinnans) que pasa volando sobre mi cabeza y me regala esta imagen encantadora... Son aves de presa medianas y poseen un chillido similar a una carcajada (de ahí su nombre común). Se alimentan de pequeñas serpientes y otros reptiles, es común verlos volar en está época del año cerca de los caminos, pues allí se les hace más fácil divisar a sus presas.
A shadow and a screech remind me that it is time to return home, it is a beautiful Laughing Falcon (Herpetotheres cachinnans) that flies over my head and gives me this charming image... They are medium-sized birds of prey and have a screeching sound similar to a cackle (hence their common name). They feed on small snakes and other reptiles, it is common to see them flying at this time of the year near the roads, because there it is easier for them to spot their prey.
Ya voy de regreso, el pueblo está allá abajo, quizás a poco más de una hora caminado, pues "bajar" es mucho más fácil para este cansado fotógrafo con sobrepeso, quien por cierto se está preguntando: ¿Por qué diablos siempre olvido traer agua cuando hago estas caminatas a pleno mediodía?.
I'm on my way back, the village is down there, maybe a little more than an hour walk, because "down" is much easier for this tired overweight photographer, who by the way is wondering: Why the hell do I always forget to bring water when I do these hikes at high noon?

Que bonita foto la de tu pueblo desde la distancia, parece un pueblo perdido en la jungla jeje.
Me gustó tu recorrido. Qué envidia, quisiera a veces estar en un lugar así, rodeada de naturaleza, animales, tranquilidad, sentarme bajo la sombra de un árbol. Hay momentos que la ciudad me agobia jaja. Gracias por el recorrido.

Ahhhhhhhhhh que bello vale, mi papá es de Montalbán y yo viví los primeros ochos años de mi vida en ese pueblo, justamente este finde semana fuimos de visita y de verdad que, a pesar de la sequía, el pueblo guarda su encanto. Amé ver el Peñón en la foto, siempre tan hermoso e imponente.

Wow estas fotografias son bellisimas. Voy a guardar algunas no mas para usarlas de guía para tomar algunas, para cuando visite un área rural.
Aquí una pregunta... cómo encuadra usted la foto para que queden bien cuando se toman en vertical las fotos? Nunca me quedan bien asi... algún consejo.

Mira, te cuento que yo con esto dela fotografía fui y soy bastante empírico, y eso de hacer las cotos en vertical fue algo que acostumbré a hacer con mayor frecuencia cuando comencé con la fotografía de calle...
Pero básicamente la receta (la mía, cuando menos) es esta:
Alinea el sujeto principal contra los lados del plano visual (no contra la base)... Eso te brindará horizonte más derecho en la foto.
El punto de enfoque (siempre uso el visor óptico de mi DSLR) tiene que se altura media a alta... Es decir, si enfocas una calle por ejemplo, enfoca al centro de la calle o como mínimo a un punto más alto de la misma, indiferentemente de que sea a la derecha o izquierda del plano visual (olvida el condenado enfoque multi-puntos, dispón el punto de enfoque tú y que sea "uno solo" aunque uses auto focus).
No pienses en la fotos "recortada", que tu foto salga ya de una vez de la cámara como va a ser sin necesidad de recortar.
¡Eso es más o menos lo que tengo en mente par planos verticales... No es gran cosa, pero la mayoría de las veces me sirve... ;)

Yo casi todas mis fotos las tomo en horizontal, no se, en vertical no me quedam bien y vi estas y wow, vi que se pueden tomar fotos muy buenas así también.
