Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Angelic Mandarin card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Featured Monster: Angelic Mandarin
Angelic Mandarin is a water splinter card that costs 3 mana. It starts with no skill and learns the triage ability at level 4 and silence ability at level 8. It doesn't have a lot of attack but it has plenty of health for a 3 mana card so it works out well as a tank to soak up hits.
I do not use this card that often because there are no abilities. Given the choices, this is on the lower end of cards that I would use, and even in a match where there is no ability, I would still opt for magic or cards with the higher attack. If I had it leveled up to 4 and I have the Triage ability, then I might consider using this card but I do not have that yet.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is armored up and taking sides. This ruleset means that all monsters start with +2 armor and no neutral monsters can be used during this fight. There is 42 mana available and all splinters can be used.
The summoner I choose to use this time is Bortus. It's the highest level water summoner that I have and I prefer to have counters to magic when there is a +2 armor buff in the rule set. Water deck also gives me access to plenty of magic monsters to burst down my opponent's side.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Bortus | 3 | Summoner | -1 magic |
Torhilo the Frozen | 9 | 1st | Tank with void magic |
Djinn Oshannus | 8 | 2nd | Backup tank with void magic |
River Hellondale | 7 | 3rd | Resurrect and +1 melee |
Nerissa Tridawn | 9 | 4th | Magic damage dealer |
Merdaali Guardian | 3 | 5th | Tank Heal |
Angelic Mandarin | 3 | 6th | Ranged attack and sneak tank |
Total Mana: | 42 |
My plan is just to have a lineup countering magic with some helpful buffs along the way. For any melee and ranged monsters, have an extra +2 armor from Venari Wavesmith will be helpful and I have two sets of void magic monsters up in front. The tank heal will help my monsters live and there is also a resurrect in case I need it. Angelic Mandarin will be my tank to deal with sneak monsters.
Round 1
At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have this match won. With my -1 magic debuff and void magic up in front for my tanks, the only monsters that can hurt me are the two in front. So long as those die, I have this match won. It's good to know that I have a backup resurrect in case I need it and I have 7 points of magic damage and 5 points of physical damage per turn. It's going to be a long drawn-out fight though.
Round 3
I took out the first monster and it already used up my opponent's resurrect ability. All that is left now is the reach monster that my opponent has. If I have take that out, this match is my win and the only thing I have to worry about is a match draw due to fatigue.
Round 4
With this, my opponent can't do any damage to me. Now my win just depends on when my physical damage monsters can land enough damage. All the magic damage my opponent will take is negated by the tank heal.
After a few rounds of trading blows, I was able to hit with my physical monsters and finish off my opponent.
Conclusion
The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. With all the extra armor in this fight, my opponent also have quite a few magic monsters but my summoner and void magic made them worthless. So after I was able to take out the first two monsters who could deal damage me, I won the match. It's too bad there were no sneak monsters and Angelic Mandarin did not do much besides landing some physical damage.
Bortus was definitely the best summoner that I could have used in this match. While I could have gone for a different summoner and still won the match, negating magic helps in matches where both sides start with an armor buff. Following that, water has plenty of magic monsters and I could take advantage of that to break through my opponent's armor buffs.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
Nice win, Your River Hellondale looks cool in GF.
Thanks. It's my only GFL lol.
I think it was genius to use -1 magic and lining up venari wavesmith, I think you knew your opponent would lineup with magic, that actually hurt his chances of winning. The Herondale is such a beast as well if you ask me.
I did not have wavesmith in my line up but I think it worked out well regardless. I do agree that the -1 magic helped a lot with the void magic.
