Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle! VENARI SPELLSMITH

in Splinterlands2 years ago

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Venari Spellsmith card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Venari Spellsmith

Venari Spellsmith is a neutral splinter card that costs 4 mana. It starts with Dispel, learns amplify at level 4, and redemption at level 8. The stats are kind of underwhelming and it doesn't have much health, attack, or speed.

I do not use this card very often because dispel does not seem like a good enough ability for me to really consider. If I had one at level 4 then I might consider it given the amplify ability. Other than that, its low stats make me rank this card lower compared to the other options I have and I only consider this card when it comes to a magic only build.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is stampede and little league. I don't think stampede is useful because I don't usually see little league monsters with trample so the only one relevant is the little league rule set. This means that I can only use cards with a mana cost of 4 or less. There is 38 mana available and I can use fire, water, earth, or dragon splinters.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Obsidian. It is only level 1 but under the current rule set, I believe it is the best option that I have available to me. The magic build in this rule set is powerful and it's too bad that I am held back by a low summoner level.

My plan is just to have a lineup of magic monsters to deal damage. Queen Mycelia will give +2 armor to my monsters and it will delay any damage from melee or ranged attacks while my magic monsters kill off the monsters. Spirit Hoarder will heal my monsters in the case of snipe or sneak. The rest are just for damage.

Round 1

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have this match won. With all my magic damage, the +1 shield is useless and my opponent has a lot of support monsters to heal or repair shields. The damage is also spread out so I am not worried about my opponent.

Round 2

round 2.png
Two monsters on my opponent's side is down and I have only taken a few damage on my Hill Giant. So it looks like this match will definitely not be an issue.

Round 3

round 3.png
As magic monsters attack first before melee at the same speed, I had no issue taking out another three monsters on my opponent's side. With just 1 monster left and the fact that you can't dodge magic without a specific skill, this match is over.

As expected, I won the match and I only lost my Hill Giant. My magic monsters devastated my opponent.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The damage from my magic monsters ripped through my opponent and secured my win without any issues. As my monsters tend to attack after most of my opponent's moves, the extra heals did not help them. While I did not require the dispel from Venari Spellsmith, the damage dealt was helpful with the boost from the summoner.

Obsidian was a great summoner and there was nothing my opponent could do about my 10 magic damage per round. It was able to wipe out a few monsters per round and the +2 armor on my side protected my side against damage. I don't think my opponent's lineup is bad but it was a bad match up against a magic build.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Lol you basically wipe out your opponent!

Yea I was a bit surprised to see the results with a level 1 summoner but it worked out. So it looks like I need to work on my own cards so it works out better.
