Marketing Is an Artform in Psychology

Marketing to everyone is marketing to no one at all. It's why I asked the question a few weeks ago if Splinterlands is a game for women. It wasn't a question with a political agenda. I'm sure people wanted to tread lightly on my post, but honestly it was a marketing question. For example, if you're selling men's clothing, typically you're targeting an audience that will wear men's clothing and if that's still women, there's a certain art to targeting to them.

I know on one hand the world is trying to move away from gender roles, but really, if you're in marketing, you know exactly what a woman wants and what a man wants and anyone else, because you need to know what it is that motivates and inspires people to buy BUY BUY!

The New Changes in Splinterlands Have Inspired Me (And Others Too, I THINK!)

What's interesting to me is the recent changes with the rewards system has changed my whole sense of Splinterlands. I attribute this change because of psychology. Yep, it really comes down to that. Why?

Well, I'm what's called a "High I". Have you heard this phrase before? We hear about the 16 personalities (Myers-Briggs) quite often, but there are other psychology types and we can learn a lot from them about ourselves but more importantly for today's post, about marketing. So let's talk about this "High I" which is part of the D.I.S.C. psychology types. Let's run through the groups.

The Psychology of a "D" Person: The Dominant Person

A person with the D traits is a dominant person. They are leaders, very driven and focused on the results. So when you're marketing to a D person, you want to consider that they want to be in control of their destiny. You don't want to tell them you'll handle it. They want to go at their own pace (which usually means strong, not hesitating) so they don't want you to slow them down with your vision, because they have their own way. This kind of person is a born leader with great ideas and if the company is wise will pay attention to what they're doing because odds are it will be successful. You just cannot push them; you must let them lead.

The Psychology of an "I" Person: The Impulsive Person

So, I'm an "I" person, or Impulsive. We are all excited, enthusiastic and we don't need a lot of time to know what we want. We just want to GO FOR IT in the moment! We LOVE prizes. We love rewards, and this is where Splinterlands has tapped into my psychology, right? I say I'm going to stop playing after this round. I win the round and then WOW I'm soooo close to the next Reward Chest that.. hmmm why not play another, right? I mean it could be for a LEGENDARY card!

It was me laughing at myself for my impulse to play another Splinterlands' battle again that reminded me I'm SUCH an "I" person. And that's perfectly fine. How do you market to this person? Well, you compliment them with something very genuine but general. For example, if you're an employee at a clothing store you could say to the "I" person "WOW that color red on you is the BEST COLOR" and the "I" person would say "REALLY!? Thank you!" And then they buy that red outfit.

The Psychology of the "S" Person: The Steady Person

The "S" person is a Steady Person. They are loyal, steady (meaning NOT impulsive or wavering), and family oriented. Of course, if you're marketing to the S person, you want to help them see the community, that they will be part of something. They will not sign up right away to something though. You will need to be patient when marketing to them. They will want to feel like they are part of something, so you need to give that personal one on one touch and be there for them as they take time to process what the program is. They are the hardest to recruit, but they are the easiest to keep because once you have them, they are loyal and part of the community and want to be with you to the end -- the ride or die person.

The Psychology of the "C" Person: The Conscientious Person

The "C" personality type is incredibly organized and detail-oriented. They will want all the information you can provide for them. When you market to the "C" person, you need to have all the information ready and available to them so they can research and make the proper decision themselves. So they want to know the fine print. Therefore, don't hesitate to give it all to them!

Take the D.I.S.C. test yourself

I took the D.I.S.C. personality test at https://discpersonalitytesting.com/free-disc-test/ . You have to provide an email but I enjoyed taking the test. It was a short 12 questions so you might consider taking it yourself if you can't figure out what you are yet.

Is Splinterlands Using These Marketing Strategies?

I'd like to know your answer to this question. Have you seen their ads? Would you say they are targeting specific audiences or just "marketing to all"? I'd be curious your thoughts on what Splinterlands is doing in the area of advertising/marketing and if you feel it's successful or unsuccessful. I'll keep my opinion to myself for the moment, but if I get enough responses to this post, I'll be sure to share them and give my own opinions as well! Thanks so much for reading!

I took the D.I.S.C test at work and it turns out that I am a straight up S person. It's useful to know your type, as well as the types of your coworkers, since you can use that knowledge to figure out how to work together better. However I never thought about D.I.S.C in regard to marketing - that's a really cool way to analyze if a product is being marketed to your personality type! I've only seen YouTube ads for Splinterlands, and I think maybe they are geared for I types - not a lot of details, but try to get you excited for the next big thing in card games; like check it out, you don't want to miss out on this Splinterlands phenomenon!

Yes, Catotune, D.I.S.C. is a phenomenal way of thinking about marketing in my opinion! But that's also great that you've taken the test to work well within your company. That makes sense as well.

Of course we have free will and we use it always, but different types of people are drawn to the world in different ways, and it's just great to understand what people are drawn to because then you can help them see the benefits of a wonderful crypto game like Splinterlands!

Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Catotune! I appreciate it! :)
