Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

For this week's Community Engagement Challenge, the task was to dive into game modifiers or the rules that alters the conditions of each match of every Splinterlands battles, and more often that adjusting to each of this modifier becomes the trickiest part of the battle, as if they were more of a threat than the actual opponent. Sometimes this modifiers gives some stat boosts and abilities on cards, and other times it gives some nasty limitations on the cards that we can use, if not gives them debilitations, which is the reason why mastering them is the key to becoming a champion in the battlefield.

So for my entry this week, I like to share some tips on how to conquer the Collateral Damage modifier which could be really hard to deal with specially for new players.

Collateral Damage

As of this time, there are a total of 64 game modifiers that exist in the game and Collateral Damage was one of the most recent addition into it. Its effect are as follows:

Colateral Damage.png

Collateral Damage is a ruleset that gives the Reckless debilitation on all units. With this debilitation, each successful attack deals 1 damage to the adjacent allied units.

What makes this ruleset really nasty is that not only do your cards get damage if the card next to them hit their target, but there is also nothing you can do to prevent the damage from happening, unlike Earthquake, where you only need to use Flying units of Noxious Fumes, for which Immunity works the best. You also can't remove the debilitation using Cleanse, so the best thing you can do is to mitigate the damage your cards get from this ruleset.

Minimize Recklessness

To minimize, the damage that your cards get from the Reckless debilitation brough by Collateral Damage, you need to have cards that has healing abilities such as, Heal, Tank Heal, Triage and Corrupted Healing, as well as cards that will that has abilities that allows them to gain additional health, such as Life Leech and Scavenger. With this, even though your cards still, suffer from the effects of the ruleset, you can at least sustain the health of your cards, and since your opponent is in the same condition, their cards will likely hit the bucket first, unless they use the same cards.

Some cards with Healing abilities.
  • Heal- Restores 1/3 of the max health, rounded down.
  • Tank Heal- Restores 1/3 of max health (rounded down) to the allied unit in the first position.
  • Triage- Restores 1/3 of max health (rounded down) to the allied backline unit that has taken the most damage.
  • Corrupted Healing- Restore 70% of max health to allied units, rounded down. Each time a unit is healed, its max health is reduced by 1.
Some cards with Life increment abilities.
  • Life Leech- Increases health and max health by 50% of damage dealt (rounded up).

  • Scavenger- +1 health and max health each time any unit is defeated.

Battle Showcase

In this battle with the Collateral Damage modifier, I've got Arachne Weaver to serve as my whole team's healer with its Corrupted Healing and at the same time, it also has the Scavenger ability so that for each monster that was defeated in battle, it will gain +1 health and hopefully, that was enough for this card to survive a few rounds. However, aside from him, the rest of my team does not really have any ability to sustain the damage they received from the effects of the ruleset, but by using the Archon Lorkus, I was able to give both Kelan Gaines and Orella Abadon the Life Leach ability. so for every time that their attack inflicts damage on the opponent's health, they will gain 50% of the damage they dealt which could offset the damage from the debilitation.

It was kind of a mistake for me to place the Life Leech on Orella Abadon cause it was immediately defeated by the opponent, but placing it on Kelan Gaines makes for a good choice since it was able to attack twice, so is the amount of health that it gets, though at the cost of some health to Arachne Weaver which is next to it.

image.png

That doesn't matter either way because the Life leech of Arachne is more than enouh to help it to last trough to the end of the battle. Meanwhile, Kelan Gaines has now 14 health, which means that it gains 5 additional health since the start of the battle.

Closing

And that was how I usually dealt with Collateral Damage— make use of magic so that it will ignore most armors and directly inflict damage on the opponent's health and leech the life out of the opponent, while at the same time, provide a continuous healing support, so it is more likely to last more battles. There are times that this strategy does not work due effects of other active modifiers, as well as the mana cap and element restrictions, but this is the easiest way to deal with this type of modifier.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
