Introduction

This is another Splinterlands Guide that I am writing. This guide will be about speed and the chance of missing. I am writing this since many people have asked how chance of missing is calculated in the Splinterlands Discord. Feel free to join it through this link: https://discord.gg/splinterlands

Overview

Splinterlands has an How to play section, you can find it here. There you can find this information about speed:

Many people don't go to the How to Play section which is a shame since there are many details there worth reading. Even so, many people don't understand how evasion chance is calculated.

Calculation

The formula for evasion is the following:

Evade Chance= (Speed Difference x 10%) + 25% (if there is dodge) + 25% (if there is flying but it won't work on other flying troops or snare troops) + 15% (if there is blind)

Obviously the speed difference only applies to the faster monster so a slower monster cannot evade an attack from a higher speed monster unless the lower speed monster has either dodge or flying OR the higher speed monster has blind.

And yes, you can have an 100% miss chance.

The Speed Difference is reversed in reversed speed though so the slower speed monster can evade a high speed monster and a high speed monster CANNOT evade a low speed monster. Flying, Dodge and Blind stats stay the same though.

Rules are: Holy protection

Turn 1

His Serpent of Eld cleared the divine shield of my Living Lava. Afterwards his Ice Pixie attacked my Living Lava. The River Nymph attacked my Living Lava as well. When my Serpentine Spy attacks his Ice Pixie, it got dodged.
Calculation: 10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 35% Evasion chanche
Afterwards my *Tenyh Striker * attacks the Ice Pixie, it got dodged.
Calculation: 2x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 45% Evasion chanche
The last attack of the first round was of my Living Lava on his Serpent of Eld.
Calculation: 4x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Dodge) = 65% Evasion chanche

Turn 2

His Serpent of Eld attacked my Living Lava. Afterwards his Ice Pixie attacked my Living Lava. The River Nymph attacked my Living Lava as well. When my Serpentine Spy attacks his Ice Pixie, the attack got through.
Calculation: 10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 35% Evasion chanche
Afterwards my *Tenyh Striker * attacks the Ice Pixie, it got through.
Calculation: 2x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 45% Evasion chanche
The last attack of the first round was of my Living Lava on his Serpent of Eld, which got through.
Calculation: 4x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Dodge) = 65% Evasion chanche

Turn 3

His Serpent of Eld attacked my Living Lava. Afterwards his Ice Pixie attacked my Living Lava. The River Nymph took off the divine shield of my Chaos agent. When my Serpentine Spy attacks his Ice Pixie, the attack got dodged.
Calculation: 10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 35% Evasion chanche
Afterwards my *Tenyh Striker * attacks the Ice Pixie, it got dodged.
Calculation: 2x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 45% Evasion chanche

Turn 4

His Serpent of Eld killed my Chaos agent. Afterwards his Ice Pixie attacked my Serpentine Spy. The River Nymph attacked my Serpentine Spy as well. When my Serpentine Spy attacks his Serpent of Eld, the attack got through.
Calculation: 2x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Dodge) = 45% Evasion chanche
Afterwards my *Tenyh Striker * attacks the Ice Pixie, it got through.
Calculation: 2x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Flying) = 45% Evasion chanche

Turn 5

His Serpent of Eld killed my Serpent Spy. Afterwards his Ice Pixie attacked my Tenyh Striker. The River Nymph attacked my Tenih Striker as well. When my Tenih Striker attacks his Serpent of Eld, the attack got through.
Calculation: 3x10% (Speed difference) + 25% (Dodge) = 45% Evasion chanche

Turn 6

His Serpent of Eld attacked my Tenyh Striker.

Turn 7

His Serpent of Eld killed my Tenyh Striker.

Conclusion

I hope you learned something from this evasion lesson and how to calculate it. Learning to calculate it will help you make informed decisions about the chances of missing and that Speed matters. That concludes my Speed Guide and as always BATTLE ON!

Thanks for providing the information. I have often wondered what the base chance of an evade is. According to your writeup it is a 0% to evade an card of your same speed without a special.
!PIZZA

That's indeed correct without spcial abilities like flying / evade when having the same speed. :)

Great guide, I didn't know how that is calculated so I learned something new today. Thanks for sharing!
