El Halo (parte 17)
Varias decenas de naves fueron desplegadas desde GB01, en un perímetro de hasta seiscientos años luz, adentrándose en el halo; buscando prevenir nuevas incursiones de los alienígenas y durante algunos meses no se volvió a saber de ellos.
Se decidió constituir un nuevo componente del ejercito en GB01, que serviría como puesto de avanzada en el halo, con el propósito de empezar a definir rutas, instalando puentes provisionales que permitieran establecer conexión con las galaxias vecinas, empezando con las Nubes de Magallanes y la galaxia Barnard y acabando con Andrómeda y el Triángulo.
El propósito del Parlamento era conformar una red de puentes que unieran las galaxias del grupo local y que permitiera a los humanos explorar y, de ser posible, colonizar mundos en otras galaxias.
Sin embargo, los alienígenas no permanecerían indiferentes a esto por mucho tiempo. Después de iniciadas las patrullas a mayor distancia de GB01, las naves humanas empezaron a ser atacadas por las habituales triadas de naves hostiles, en muchas ocasiones las naves humanas lograron librarse, defendiéndose usando armas cinéticas, o escapando, aprovechando la mayor velocidad de los nuevos motores de tecnología hibrida.
Pese a esto, muchas naves se perdieron junto a sus tripulaciones, y lo que resultó más alarmante fue que los agresores, empezaron también a atacar los puentes provisionales y a destruirlos junto a sus estaciones de monitoreo. La estrategia de ataques rápidos y dispersos de los alienígenas, estaba mermando rápidamente las fuerzas humanas en el halo, y perjudicando los esfuerzos por adelantar el desarrollo de la red de puentes.
—Cada avance que se realiza, es rápidamente revertido por los ataques —dijo August Beltrán, presidente del Parlamento, ante los representantes de los mundos colonizados —. No podemos seguir tolerando estas pérdidas, es necesario que se descubra de donde vienen. Para así poder llevar el enfrentamiento a su territorio.
—Lo sabemos, pero no ha sido posible ubicarlos —respondió Albert Sorensen, encargado de la comisión de defensa del Parlamento —. Sus naves no son fáciles de seguir, sus motores, dejan un muy pequeña alteración en el campo gravitacional y nuestras naves siempre están en desventaja cuando son atacadas, así que en la mayoría de los casos, son ellas las que han tenido que retirarse, para evitar ser destruidas.
—Es necesario hacer algún avance en esta guerra —dijo Beltrán —. Estamos estancados y los costos de mantener las operaciones en el halo se están haciendo insostenibles.
—Llevaré su posición al alto mando militar y veré que se hagan movimientos en post de lograr avances —dijo Sorensen.
Pero serían los alienígenas quienes harían avances en la guerra y las quejas del presidente del Parlamento, nunca llegarían a ser expuestas por Sorensen al alto mando militar. El estancamiento terminaría y los humanos no serían los favorecidos con el resultado.

Several dozens of ships were deployed from GB01, in a perimeter of up to six hundred light years, entering the halo; seeking to prevent new incursions of the aliens and for some months they were not heard from again.

The aliens' strategy of rapid and scattered attacks was rapidly depleting human forces in the halo and undermining efforts to advance the development of the bridge network.

But it would be the aliens who would make advances in the war, and the Speaker's complaints would never be brought by Sorensen to the military high command. The stalemate would end and the humans would not be the ones favored by the outcome.
