El midazolam es indicado como sedante ante procedimientos diagnósticos simples así mismo en situaciones de crisis convulsivas y como relajante ya que genera un estado de hipnosis, también puede ser administrado junto a la anestesia y como sedación en el paciente conectado a ventilación mecánica en cuidados intensivos.
Se debe tener precaución en pacientes pediátricos, adultos con enfermedades cardíacas, renales y hepáticas, se debe monitorizar al paciente durante la administración ya que puede ocasionar depresión respiratorio así mismo riesgo de paro cardio-respiratorio. Está contraindicado en pacientes alérgicos a los componentes del fármaco.
La presentación es de 10mg / 2ml , se puede administrar vía intravenosa en bolo y continúa diluido en solución fisiológica al 0.9% y dextrosa al 5%, otras de las vía es rectal, oral, intramuscular.
Entre los principales efectos adversos destacan hipotensión, diarrea, vómitos, convulsión, alteraciones neurológicas y respiratorias.
Cómo personal de enfermería es importante vigilar el estado hemodinámico del paciente, vigilar signos de reacción adversa, diluir correctamente las dosis a administrar, vigilar al paciente con enfermedad renal y cardíaca, es importante contar con el equipo de reanimación en casos de complicación.
