It won't surprise anyone on Hive to know that the Venezuelan community is the largest national group on the network. This post is to go into a little more detail on the growth of the Venezuelan userbase here on Hive.
The following statistics ONLY include users who present some variation of 'Venezuela' or a large Venezuelan city name in their profile location field. Identifying the terms for this was done while manually cleaning location data for my last post. The data here probably only reflects a fraction of the entire Venezuelan userbase, but it's probably at least good enough to identify trends.
The known Venezuelan authors active in the last month represent 3.35% of all users active in the time and 12% of all active users with an identified location.
Authors
There was large growth in the number of Venezuelan authors on Hive in early 2021. It then remained fairly level for the rest of the year until another small rise in January 2022. The userbase of authors is fairly steady, not particularly growing or declining now. Please note that June 2022 is not complete.
Curators
The same trend can be seen among active Venezuelan voting accounts, aka curators.
There is a marginally larger number of accounts voting, by and large the trend is the same. It seems that almost all accounts actively voting are also making posts.
Financials
The following table represents how much Hive financial value is held by the Venezuelan community. Please note again that this is just the accounts which identify their location on their profile, most of the stake in Hive is held in anonymous accounts as well as on exchanges.
Amount | Denomination | Dollar Value | Share Overall |
---|---|---|---|
75011.329 | Hive | $29,177 | - |
3043.758 | Hive Savings | $1,184.27 | - |
27946.663 | HBD | $26,186.05 | - |
23118.640 | HBD Savings | $21,662.18 | - |
910,042 | Hive Power | $353,982.82 | 0.569% |
The Venezuelan community is underrepresented in terms of its stake in the network, with 0.57% stake among 3.3% of the active userbase. If we extrapolate based on the number of users with a known location, then a group representing 12% of the community only has 0.57% of the stake, which is even more stark. However that is flawed, as it's entirely possible that Venezuelans are more likely to put their location in the user profile.
Assuming that nothing is held in exchanges and anonymous accounts, the Hive Venezuelan community is 82% powered up.
Looks like some people worked hard to build up that community. I know the economy has been a mess, so earning on Hive could change lives, and that's what I think it should be doing.
