The week of Thanksgiving, has always been a touch special to me. It has always called out for big family gatherings, an outpouring of the love that had been saved up, just for this occasion. Thanksgiving...the one in my heart, I pieced together a wreath several years ago, to hang on my door, and I think to myself, nature has a way of making the most welcoming wreaths. I place it on the door, and I hear the pause and then the inevitable knock, ring, or shout out as the door opens, and my whole face is smiling. My people are here!

There are 17 countries that celebrate a Thanksgiving of sorts, every year. Some of the festivities commemorate colonial migrations to the Americas and others celebrate the start of a new lunar cycle to welcome in the harvest season. source

Your beauty skillfully ignites an insatiable appetite for words. Her gentle movements, not unlike the pose of a ballerina, with the bowed head, the humble flower reminds me of saying grace on Thanksgiving. It is a mmajor event that circles the table and back again. Everyone gets involved and some of the kids write theirs down so they don't forget. Age has its priviliges. I will never forget, I am grateful to be alive and well. I am blessed. Truly.

I am thankful for the people that I encounter through daily living. Their gifts ripple out upon the spiritual waters of the earth and uplift the bond of our shared humanity.I find myself becoming a collector of people, all different kinds, walking different paths through life. People make the world go round. Not just thankful, people make me happy. I love being surrounded by the laughter, the joy, the quiet piece of another. Happiness is so very underrated. And contagious. Tag! You are it!

Stop the insantity! You are giving Santa a bad name! He doesn't want this Black Friday thing! I am torn about going to any Black Friday events. I want to, but, I won't be leaving my family on Thansgiving to shop. I don't care how much money they make you believe you are saving. Do you remember when Black Friday was one day? The Friday after Thanksgiving at 6am... not a moment before. What has happened to us that shopping is more important than bonding with family? Let's get our priorities right again. Speaking of Christmas, we are making our way with the countdown! In keeping with the Christmas Countdown, I give you one seasonal picture and the day count! There are 31 days 00 hours 15 minutes and 27 seconds.

All I have are my words, armed in my mind, written in pen, stand by stand. Oh, yes. Still by hand. It has a different feel. Altered not by keys, backspace, and delete, I write, erase, tear it to pieces and start all over again. And again.

It’s my way. I walk out to the deep end of the page and dive right in.

What are you thankful for today? I would love to know! And just like that, this post is over! Come back tomorrow and we will do it again! I leave with a flower to color your world. @alwaysaflower.

How Do I Love Thee?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

We don't celebrate the holiday however many friends overseas do, yes stop shopping, enjoy the outdoors with family and friends it's far more important than saving a buck here and there....

Joy of children everywhere should hold magic over festive period even if more fable than truth, time of innocence lasts such a short time.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving Denise.

!LUV

Even when I didn't have money, family and friend time ruled! You just cannot get those moments back. Ever. So revel in the joy of the time you have with these special people.

The time of innocence is far too short.

I have no idea how you got to be so smart, but your words echo the truth as I know it. Thank you for the Thanksgiving wishes! I hope you have a most delightful day! ❤️

Thank you for the LUV!

Celebrating together with family and friends it has always been everyone brings a dish with own drinks, any excuse to be together.

Buying gifts I do throughout the year and pack aside, I hate crowded shops, the madness people display with rushing to last minute shopping. "Black Friday" we have noticed prices are inflated, then lowered giving the illusion of discounted pricing.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving with those beautiful decorations made with love to display on the weekend, more so have fun with all being together.

Pretty words.

The holidays to me are mostly filled with love by my family and getting to be with them (darned covid, but that's another time)..... I love buying and giving presents, but it would still be the holidays if I couldn't, as long as my family could get together.

I know everyone doesn't celebrate the same way and everyone isn't fortunate to have a good loving family (and that part breaks my heart)..... but the stores being open on Thanksgiving disgusts me ! Surprising even ME, two Thanksgivings ago my brother and wife "had to go" at some point to go to a sale. If you had asked me, he would have been the LAST one that would have shortened a family visit for that.... and yet, there it was.

I'm glad a few stores are stopping that after a few years. The one thing I do know, is that the "people" could make it stop, by simply nobody shopping that day. If it wasn't profitable, it would stop. Alas, the draw is just too great for some.

Thanks, El. I know how close you are with your family and this COVID just makes it all worse, doens't it? :(

I am fortunate and I don't take that for granted, not for even a minute. Nobody would have dared gotten up from Thanksgiving to go shopping while my mother was alive and now, I would be shocked, but, as I say that, one of my cousins called from downtown last black Friday to tell everyone how the sales were terrible. It still shocks me that shopping is that important. So many people equate bigger present with more love.

Seriously?

I agree with you, one of the reasons I don't go shopping (on top of the fact that I am with the people I love best!) is I won't support it. My parents wouldn't shop on Sundays, ever! When they repealed the blue laws, it broke my mothers heart. She said it was the beginning of the end of family life. Not quite right, but, family life used to be getting to gether every Sunday at Grandmas house afer church. Now, there isn't time for church because people work on Sundays. I do very little on Sunday except be with family, if I can help it.

Well, I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, my friend!

It is a wonderful time to celebrate all we are thankful for and have special time with family

As for black friday I used to always go out with Jeanne and Mark early to go around the shops, I never used to pick up much for myself but enjoyed the time out and always ended up getting things for the grandkids

Yes. But you didnt go out Thanksgiving Day. Thats what I'm talking about. They started breaking up the Thanksgiving family time.

Thats true, Thanksgiving was for family and coming home with a food coma and lazing on the couch
Its crazy how Black friday has changed over the years, even before Covid, but now its pretty much all online for the most part

That is why some of the stores here are offering an extra incentive for those that are in-store. They can only receive the bonus IF they are there.

I still like the family aspect of it and I cannot believe they try to take that away with so little time people spend being together.

I have to be honest apart from getting texts from bestbuy I haven’t even looked at the Black Friday sales this year
I do personally think thanksgiving shops should be closed and let people enjoy the time with family

It is an amazing time of year, and a wonderful opportunity to remember to be grateful, and to give thanks to those aroung you who have supported you and stuck by you. I'm so thankful for so many things!

As for Black Friday shopping, I have to admit I love it. After a few days of family and home and chaos, I get a huge kick out of making the rounds at the stores and getting a lot of my shopping list checked off. But I'm definitely not one of those who hits the stores on Thanksgiving night!

Happy Thanksgiving, dear @dswigle!

Thats what I'm talking about! I like Black Friday, not a disruptive Thanksgiving. I love Black Friday!!
I'm so very thankful for so many things! Will you be cooking for Thanksgiving? I know I am!! Parties here!

Happy Thanksgiving, @Jayna!!

Happy early Thanksgiving. That wreath you made a few years ago is really nice looking. Beautiful!

Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving to you! I love making at least one good wreath a year. I have them all over the house. :) Sounds excessive, but, I promise you, it isn't!

Have a wonderful day!

Are you decorated for Christmas yet?? It always starts for me after the Macy's Thanksgiving parade; we begin by squeezing pulling out the decorations and putting them up between the end of the parade and dinner. This year my phonographs have taken the space where my nutcrackers would go, and I'm torn on how to handle that. Oh, conundrums.

Take them down for now, put them back up after Christmas! That's what I do. Then, in January, it's new, all over again!

We did decorate while watching the Macy's Day Parade!

It such a nice feeling this time. love your article you present so lovelily.
Nice composition my dear sweet friend @dswigle.
God bless you dear.

Thank you so much for your very kind words, as always. It will be a lovely day tomorrow, filled with family, friends, and good food.

These important times should always be about spending time with the family, the children, perhaps those cousins we haven't seen for months, reunions. That's the essence, despite being at home, to talk about anything, that's what it's all about.

Black Friday is coming and the problem is that nowadays people are more focused on work, earning more money and saving, that's not bad! but at the same time we forget about the time we can use to share with others.

I like to think that I have found that balance that gives the priority to family, but, still working, saving, but, being there for when I am needed.

It is sometimes a delicate balance, but, the family should always be first.

There is nothing better than our family. Giving time to family is more important than just shopping. The photography has been very beautiful.

Absolutely! Family means everything to me. Shopping will never be ahead of that. :)

Thank you so much for the woeds.

Wow, very creative mamm and am so glad I read through. Happy Thanksgiving as well @dswigle

I love Thanksgiving too

Gratitude is a wonderful feeling. To be grateful for what you have received, no matter from whom. Don't forget. Giving back... That's who you are, you love people. Now that it's a holiday, let's say people love you too. But don't count on it 100%. That is if we're being realistic!
In Romania we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day, we celebrate Christmas like this, we gather the family.
The winter holidays suit you perfectly, Denise.

Happy Thanksgiving my dear Denise, hope you have enjoyed your celebration. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in Spain or in Austria. They have a different celebration as far as I know. In Austria, they have this Matini Gans where they dine and eat Turkey.

I do not shop on Black Fridays no matter how low the prices are, this is a commercial event that shops all over created particularly online. I think one tends to buy unnecessary things on Black Friday. If I need something, I would go out and do shopping then.

Christmas 🎅 is around the corner can't wait to have some decorations in my house @dswigle
