Becomes the Hero in the Back to Basics Ruleset

in FreeComplimentslast month

Hello, Splinterlands warriors! ✨
How’s it going at the end of the season? Have you opened your reward chests yet? Sometimes it feels like a lottery — you either get some common cards or suddenly pull an epic one that makes your whole day brighter. Well, in this post, I want to share one of my most epic moments this season — a battle that, honestly, I thought was going to end badly. But it turned out to be one of the most satisfying wins I’ve had.

This time, the main star of my lineup was Kha’zi Conjurer — a monster with massive attack power but a dangerous downside. Why dangerous? Because it has the Incendiary ability, meaning there’s a 33% chance every round that it might burn its own teammates! 🫠
That’s why I rarely use it. Its attack is strong, sure, but the side effect can ruin your team.

But this battle was different. The ruleset was Back to Basics, which means all monsters lose their active abilities. Yup — even negative ones like Incendiary! That’s when I realized — this was the perfect chance to let Kha’zi Conjurer shine without any risk.

On top of that, the match had the Weak Magic ruleset, which prevents magic attacks from directly bypassing armor. The mana cap was 40, and the allowed elements were Fire, Life, Death, and Earth.

⚔️ My Team Formation

I decided to go with Archon Nomos at level 3. His buffs felt balanced and reliable. My lineup included:

  • Frankarsgard, the main tank with high HP,
  • Great Bear Druid, a solid magic attacker,
  • Mindless Thrall, for extra melee power and durability,
  • Emberguard, to reinforce the front line,
  • Flame Mephit, a fast aerial attacker, and
  • of course, Kha’zi Conjurer, placed in the back as my main ranged attacker.

Why was this formation good? Because I relied on the number of monsters and attack variety. In Back to Basics, having more monsters with strong base stats is often better than relying on a few heavy hitters.

My opponent, however, used Archon Barthalamas level 4 — a powerful choice that usually brings trouble. His team consisted of:

  • Mantaroth, the main tank with thick armor,
  • Infernal Firestorm, a heavy damage dealer,
  • Continuum Seer, a disruptive magic user, and
  • Great Bear Druid, same as mine.

From that lineup, I knew it would be a tough fight. His monsters were fewer, but all had high HP and armor — perfect for the Weak Magic ruleset.

⚡ The Battle

As soon as round one began, I realized Mantaroth’s thick armor made my magic attacks nearly useless. But since I had more monsters, the pressure from my numbers started to show.

By round two, the opponent’s formation began to crumble. Mantaroth’s armor was breaking down, and that’s when Kha’zi Conjurer started to shine. Its strong ranged attack pierced through the defenses, leaving Infernal Firestorm in trouble. One hit — and a huge chunk of health disappeared!

Round after round, the battle swung further in my favor. Even though my opponent’s monsters had big health pools, they couldn’t keep up with the steady wave of attacks from my side. Once Mantaroth fell, the rest collapsed quickly. Continuum Seer and Great Bear Druid went down without much resistance. And finally — victory was mine. 🎯

🎯 Closing Thoughts

The most fascinating part of this battle was how one ruleset completely changed a card’s role. Kha’zi Conjurer, usually a risky card, turned into a pure offensive powerhouse once its Incendiary drawback was removed.

For new players, this is a perfect example that understanding the ruleset is the key to winning in Splinterlands. Sometimes it’s not about having the strongest cards, but knowing when certain cards can shine under the right conditions.

This match reminded me that every card has its golden moment — you just need to know when to play it. So if you have a card you rarely use because of its drawbacks, take another look at the rulesets before you battle. Who knows? That might be the card that leads you to a big win!

See you in the next arena, summoners! May this season bring you good luck and sweet rewards from those end-of-season chests! 🚀💎
