I bought a controller and did some Forza racing

in Hive Gaming3 years ago

If you know me, you may be aware I'm a #pcmasterrace maximalist usually, meaning I don't enjoy consoles and most of the time find them pretty useless, especially since the games I do enjoy playing are best played with a mouse and keyboard. This goes from first person shooters, MOBA, MMORPG's, etc. On top of that recording said games for content is really smooth to do on a PC and even though I've been fairly lazy with editing the gameplay lately, or just not had the extra time to do so, doing that on a PC is so much easier than transferring them over from console's, etc.

I have to admit, though, that there are games in existence where a controller is much better suited for them than a keyboard and mouse. I haven't played such games much but hoping I'd have some more free time in the near future once some of my projects on Hive are flowing a bit on their own and I don't need to overview or take care of all the voting by myself, that I'll be able to get back to some gaming content and have some more free time for it. I decided to go with a cheap controller just to try it out at first, I realized the inefficiencies of the "joystick" or what you call the thing you hold your thumb on the controller that it won't be great with a cheap one as that's usually what makes them cheaper, with the Playstation and Xbox controllers having it as sensitive as possible to also make FPS games playable and the experience much better but as an experiment I figured it'll be enough at first until I find some games I may actually want to spend more time playing.

So I ordered this controller called Khensu by Krom.

I'm not going to spend too much time on this one as I think it's a pretty basic controller, plug and play and has buttons for most things you'd need and mimics the console controllers pretty well, except for the sticks being less sensitive. By sensitive I mean, you try and move them as little as possible but in the game it won't take it into effect until you move them enough for it to register, so if you're playing certain shooters or things that require great precision you're going to have a bad time. I fully expect them to be less durable as well and most likely bring back memories of my N64 controller where the sticks would easily tire out after some time and get stuck or loose in certain positions.

What was in the package:

Included was a small USB receiver, windows quickly installed it as you plugged it in along with a USB charger cable and that was pretty much it, ain't nobody got time to read the manual or has a need for it with this.

Me holding the controller for size, my hands are average size I suppose and I made sure not to dox my fingerprints when taking the picture:

So here's now some footage of me putting the controller into test-drive :3
I installed Forza Horizon 4, it only cost $1 for a month's subscription on Xbox Online Shop (whatever it's called) and you can play a ton of games during that time. The recording occurred a couple weeks ago, I've just been way too busy to post this in time, not that that matters much anyway but it was quite a fun game if you're into Racing which is one of the games that's most definitely better on a controller than a keyboard/mouse but I'm not that invested to purchase an actual steering wheel and pedals for it.

Recorded in 60 fps, 1440p, no commentary if I recall correctly.

Another one of me doing the drift challenges, which is something I loved in the previous Forza games but have gotten quite rusty by the looks of it, maybe I just need to find the right car!

I also bought a new mouse, the old one had already gotten 4 years old, was double-clicking at random which caused some issues some times so I figured it was about time. I'm not really a materialistic kind of person, I purchase very little things IRL but when it comes to my battlestation I like to spend a little extra since it's literally where I sit all day. :P

More on that in the next post!

You will always have certain games requiring a controller. For instance fighting games, which I myself use a PS4 controller for but need one that is newer and has better input latency and is better to use overall.

Glad you got to enjoy Forza with it, racing games need that control stick to turn better.

Yeah, unfortunately I noticed quite quick in Forza that the sensitivity of the controller wasn't great. I'm gonna check out some fighting games to see if I notice input lag being much of an issue and if I start enjoying them to bother getting a better controller for it. I get quite competitive and unfortunately Forza seemed to be deserted, every time I queued for some online racing it never found a party of other players, one time I was in queue for 35 minutes until I eventually gave up.

Got any good recommendations for fighting games? There were some in the Microsoft store but wasn't sure which one to download.

I think unless the game is within the last few years or has a good playerbase, it will be hard playing online.

Not sure on modern day fighting games if you will play online. Maybe Mortal Kombat 11, or whichever is the latest as that could have players, latest Street Fighter maybe. I play ROMs for retro fighting games lately.

Yeah sounds a bit like all call of duty predecessors, most online gamers move to the newest one and the old ones are either empty or full of hackers.

Cool, will check one out, cheers!

The classics. Racing and the old school fighting games like streetfighter you need a controller for those!
What's your all time favorite game?

I'd say it's a tie between Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Counter Strike Global Offensive, there's not much that beats the thrill of and intensity of FPS when the teams are evenly good and rounds get real close to go either way. MOHAA is a really old game but the memories from it will remain golden forever.

Yours?

CSGO is a classic, never got into it myself but it's still big in the gaming space.
For me Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for sure!!! Love that game it was such an adventure and something that really sticks with you. I always love a good Mario game as well!

Aws yeah, those were epic masterpieces. I'm thinking of getting into some singleplayer games again, my competitive side makes it hard to stick to them but maybe if I record them and add some commentary for some posts I can get used to playing them again. Detroit become Human seems quite beautiful and I love sci-fi in movies so might try that out next.

Do you stream anything besides fortnite? ;P (sorry that's just one of those games I really dislike, doesn't help they dropped Paragon to focus on it)

lol, I know all about that competitive side! On stream, Fortnite mainly as that's what the community enjoys the most. It makes for some good times and crazy shenanigans. Off stream though I don't play all that much anymore but if I do it's mostly mario cart or something like that. Yeah Paragon had a rather big fan base I know a lot of people were disappointed when they dropped it. I hear there are some new companies though trying to bring it back?

Ya! I'm super excited to play it again, it's called Predecessor!

Though I wish these new games would come up with some nice crypto gamification already, if done right it would make for such a great addition and dimension to these kind of games. For FPS, though, it's already too difficult to keep cheats off of the game, monetizing that would make it at least 10x harder to avoid.

Forza Horizon is one of a games that make me wish I still had an Xbox (along with Gears of War and Halo.) I am an absolute car nut, and I have always liked Forza better than Gran Turismo.

My uncle who barely even plays video games at all but is a diehard racer in real life, has a full on realistic car seat to play racing video games in. I’d say that is probably the absolute best way to play a game like this, but for sure a controller beats a mouse in this scenario. It’s wise of you to admit that and use a controller.

Great looking gameplay and damn does this make me wish I was playing the newest Forza Horizon 5 that just got announced. It looks so gorgeous and I have always wanted to drive around in Mexico, that game is going to be amazing.

I have always preferred consoles, mainly because I spend all day working on the pc and when it's time to play, I want to turn off the pc, turn on the tv, the console and throw myself on the couch to play (currently I play purely on PC 😂). Also because the games I always enjoy, were rarely available on pc, although that barrier is getting shorter and shorter. I play on PC with a PS3 or PS4 controller, both work quite well. The issue with the cheaper brands of controllers is the sticks, they are usually not sensitive and for games where you need precision, it becomes complicated. But for some games, it is not necessary to have an expensive controller.

You can test how this controller performs with fighting games like Dragon Ball FighterZ or Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

I loved every single minute spent in this game. Too bad is not well optimised for co-op races and creating lobby with your friends :/

Yeah it seems like they didn't care much about that part, kinda lame. :<

Yeah, I know. I don't even know if I should be excited about the new Forza announced, lol. But I'm not going to buy it until they fix that problem -.-

I normally don't enjoy racing games but seriously Forza just brings it to another level with the detail and feedback. You only took out a few bushes ;) on and that head on with that Volkswaagen bug haha

Hehe, hasn't been easy to watch out for those certain trees that make you go from 200mph to 0 in a split second. :p

What's the VW bug? :D I picked the subaru first, then went for nissan GTR and straight into that shitcoiners dreamcar!

I run a PS4 controller with both Linux and Windows via Bluetooth.

My most current console is an Xbox 360, but I quite enjoyed Forza 3 on it. I should play that more.

Cool controller. I'm still using my 3 years old Nacon 😅

I have like Special controllers for all the different type of games, A wheel with pedals and gearstick for driving sims, HOTAS flight stick for planes etc. Really fun finding space for it all :D

I have a huge fetish with Forza Horizon, I was impressed with the beast that they will release soon, Forza Horizon 5, I would also like to buy a control soon as it is indispensable for some games, enjoy it Acid

Controllers modeled after Xbox never work for my small baby hands. Used to enjoy racing games in my teenage days but not anymore. Enjoy it!

forza horizon 5 is coming I'm waiting for it. it look damn real

Ready for forza horizon 5 in mexico?

I also prefer PC games, one of the ones I have invested a lot of time is the MMORPG old schoold Runescape, I have an account of more than 3 years, it has basic graphics but it is quite entertaining. It is a game with more than ten million registered users.

It was WoW for me, played since vanilla and quite some time after MOP with some periods getting back on and off.

When you level up a character it's hard to leave him or her behind, somehow you are trapped in the game forever, even if you move away at some point you come back! Unless a better one manages to conquer you and kicks the other game out of your mind!!!! 😅

This looks like XBOX controller. When I had started to play games with XBOX, this controller came weird to me. However, by time, I got used to it. Now I am able to play both with directional pad and analog.

this is cool! enjoy your new toy! congrats!

Wow
Nice controller

I never bought a controller for the pc, but are they shock? Vibrate? Or is that technology only for consoles?

somethings about hive is hard to understand 1000 likes and 4 views

votes don't cost anything, which means people like to trail others, trails like to autovote on either popular authors or authors that have been consistent and here for a long time. That being said I'm not sure if youtube counts views from embeds so could be it's just the views of people who watched it on youtube.

At least it would be weird with just 4 views considering the amount of comments this post received about the gameplay.

If the controller works great with all Halo games, then it is a keeper. 😉
