Street Fighter I, the unknown game that started this incredible saga - EN/ES

The beginning of the world's greatest fighting empire

Many of us know the Street Fighter saga for its famous version II, but had you heard of the first version of Street Fighter? A rather peculiar game that started this brutal series of street-fight video games, its release date was in 1987, just imagine? More than 34 years ago! a complete madness, its only game mode is from the famous arcade machine, which makes it even more impressive and fun to play, for those years logically the technology was not even 10% of what it is now, so the game lacks a lot of content and has many errors.

In my opinion, this game was absolutely displaced from all Capcom's plans, as it has happened in the versions of for example Street Fighter II, or Street Fighter IV, they have updated many times their games and improve them more and more, without the need to release a new version. In this case, it is the opposite, it seems that the Japanese company has forgotten about this game and they don't want it on their list anymore, maybe because of the deplorable story that the game brings us, or maybe it is a personal issue of the company, anyway I come to show you the game that marked an era in video games, and started a wonderful empire of fights and action.

If we compare this title with its big brother, Street Fighter II, we will find an abysmal difference in gameplay, graphics, scenarios, variety, etc, etc, etc. As expected Street Fighter I is far from being a good game, I find it as a great classic game and that will give us a lot of nostalgia, but to enjoy it, Mmmmm... I doubt it a lot. The game only has one character, the famous Ryu, and if by chance we play against a friend, we can use Ken, in short, the game is simple and gets to be quite boring at times, but wait... I think I'm being too hard on a 34-year-old game. :/

The gameplay of Street Fighter is very bad, it's terrible... Why? Well, when trying to perform the combos that we all know, Ryu will not respond correctly, and if we try to press the buttons madly, (how the vast majority plays), we will only die in the attempt because we will not get any combo, something quite strange in this title, because compared to Street Fighter today, it should not have been so ...

In our "campaign mode" we will only have 10 different enemies to face, we have Birdie, Retsu, Geki, Adon, Mike, etc. Capcom didn't make much of an effort to bring us variety, the game is not long at all, maybe it will give you 1 or 2 hours of fun at most. Nothing else, you can't ask for much, it's 1987.

Something very criticized of this game is the balance it has in its powers and combos, having battles too short, lasting less than 10 seconds, nothing like the current format as we can currently last hours and hours in a single battle hahaha, just kidding xD. But... How the fuck is a fight going to last less than 10 seconds? it seems to be a complete madness and very badly done by Capcom, but let's remember... We can't ask for miracles from the first installment.

Something quite characteristic of Street Fighter is their scenarios, as you have been able to see in the photos that I have left along with the post, they are not bad at all, and I even like them. There are some that are beautiful and become quite nostalgic, some other map of that time reminds me of the current ones. The graphics are pretty good too, I really like the graphics and the effects too, maybe they could have added more variety of sounds, but we can't complain, I think it's a very good game by Capcom. For the year 1987, we already had well-done graphics for the time and quite colorful, a point in favor of Capcom!

The characteristic voices of Street Fighter at the time of fighting, and before each battle, are very well done and are understood perfectly. This section is important because if you notice Capcom never eliminated this small detail before each fight, and all of us who have played Street Fighter love this section.

We also know the famous Street Fighter bonuses, which consist of mini-games to earn a certain amount of points and to practice some skills of our character, in this title we have only three different bonuses, I feel that they could have added some more, but I'm not one to judge.

I know that in this review maybe I was a little harsh, and I spoke a little loud about this game, but I try to be as honest as possible and give my 100% personal opinion, this title in general deserves a very good update as they did with its predecessors, it wouldn't hurt to update and revive it a little, of course, always keeping its characteristic retro graphics and perhaps improving its gameplay, which is undoubtedly the worst of the game, even so, this title has a lot of potentials, and even more because it is the first of the whole saga and the one that started this brutal fighting game. Another improvement should have been its final bosses, adding more variety and a better balance. It is a good game but it has many errors and details that damage our experience.

Logically there are many better games than Street Fighter I, and its predecessors are the right ones for if you want to play a good fighting game and with a great variety, maybe I would recommend this game to spend a fun time and already, without expecting much, because obviously, you won't get it...

Aunque si te soy sincero, no he jugado mucho SF soy más de King of Fighters.

muchisimas gracias! :) saludos y espero siempre te pases por mi blog :D

I'm not really a friend of the fighting genre in video games, but I can know what the title "Street Fighter" means in this great world that unites us, an icon in its genre and in the video game industry... Great choice that you have brought us, a good contribution that was worth reading, thanks for bringing me good memories of my childhood... Regarding "Street Fighter" I never played it on an arcade machine, but I did get to play it on the NES and PlayStation 1 with some friends (I was never that good at this kind of games xD)

thanks brother! and yes, unfortunately I have not been able to enjoy it on an arcade machine either, but even if I had the pleasure of seeing one live and direct! also played it on the consoles you mentioned and emulators xD, greetings bro
