Forager - Survival game too addictive | First game and impressions

It often happens that when we talk about a specific genre a game comes to mind, either by different factors but it is usually because it is the most emblematic game we remember of the genre being talked about. When we talk about survival, construction, exploration, and the open world, most probably Minecraft or Terraria come to mind, right? At least in my case and I know that in the case of many it is so.

Yesterday I found out about a game belonging to this genre that caught my attention not only for its visuals and name (which reminded me a lot of FEZ) but obviously for its genre and that I had never heard of it. The truth was looking in the Steam catalog that by chance in the store I found a quick offer at a pretty good price and decided to buy it to see how it was and what impressions it gave me, the game is called Forager.

At first, if it is true that I was somewhat reluctant to try it because as I said, I'm not a big fan of these games currently but I accept that they are quite fun because that factor that things entirely depend on what we do, makes playing it feels like we are undertaking our adventure and not the one they tell us.

Beginning of the adventure

-

After a short tutorial, I proceeded to play a game in classic mode, we started with a pickaxe as a tool and were stranded in the middle of a deserted island, except for us of course, but deserted after all. We have several usable resources, as is typical, and taught me the good Minecraft the first thing is wood for crafting table but ... Here there is no, or at least from what I saw the basic crafts are made from the menu by giving ESC, then the second most important thing in starting situations was the stone to make a furnace and melt the minerals that generate the world, so let's go for it.

I could notice that the bar that is in the upper left corner was going down at first I thought it was the life of my pickaxe (used to Minecraft) but it turns out that it is energy which is the equivalent of life (or part of it), and they go down as the resource extraction actions we do. After extracting stone I crafted a furnace and melted all the minerals I managed to get.

We will easily level up, or at least in my case it was enough a couple of pickaxes to the trees, yes, the pickaxe is a useful tool that we will have to use for everything at least at the beginning. Our abilities to unlock will depend on the skills we have, which according to the level we go through will give us points in which we can enable new skills according to the branch we want to go, we have forger, economy, collection, and magic. In my case, I went for the economy because they give you 40 instant coins, and, join me because with this I got the first land!.

15.jpg
You're the person I was looking for !

At first, it was weird, I honestly did not believe that nothing appeared but out of nowhere came out a giant treehouse that, in theory, is my house and in it I can change my attire whenever I want, I thought I could sleep or something to save progress, but it was not the case. Besides this appeared a mysterious wizard that made me very curious, I decided to talk to him and he told me about a thousand things but in short, people are killing nature and to recover it we must find two fireflies and lock them in a glass jar, weird?

Well, let me tell you that this is one of the most hated tasks of the whole game because to make crystal we must find sand which was impossible for me, what a hell that on an island there is not a gram of sand which is the way to make it. The task of the magician is in development for when I continue exploring and getting. After all, I continued smelting minerals, this time gold to forge coins and make money because it is needed, it is the only way to buy land at least until now and as a good forager, we want to explore and see new things.

21 copia.jpg

After several forged coins I was able to take over the land next door, which was quite small, but it was hiding a chest! Or well, it wasn't hiding it but it was there tempting us. I was trying to open it, I didn't know how I was in a mess, I didn't know what to do. I thought about pickaxing it but no, apparently trying to open it with the pickaxe wasn't as good an idea as it sounded in my head. So in the forge (anvil), I saw that a magic key could be crafted for this, so I set to work to get what was needed.

When I opened it to my surprise I got some wings these objects add plus to the character to be able to empower him or at least give him certain semi-abilities that maybe not in most cases but some instances will be useful to save us from any entanglement.

Vampire wings

Then, as I continued exploring the terrain and collecting resources, I could observe many things that were being generated as time went by and more and more terrain was opening up. I found a chicken, slime balls, nothing that represented a difficulty, or so I thought. I decided it was time to try my luck and buy a more expensive terrain than I was used to, I mean, in Forager when you start we usually go for terrain that can be worth 40,50,60 coins approximately. My experience with them was that they were progressively scarce and their resources were practically null, so I decided to see that they had terrains to explore that fit my budget (300-400 coins).

I unlocked one that was south of the original terrain, in it I found a very large mansion and... oh no, it was surrounded by monsters or wild animals. Wow, I had never seen those Bisons?, Bulls?, Buffalos? I don't know but I could tell they were tough. However, I tried to hunt them with my beak to use their meat and also with the slime balls I could make my way.

In the end, it was about a museum... Wow, what a disappointment, I thought it was a dungeon and I was saying "Where do I build my sword?" Well ... No luck, I'll keep trying to see what comes out, what I do know is that the game is quite entertaining. In the end, as a good survival game, it achieves its goal, which is to entertain us looking for resources of the earth. Perhaps if we compare it with several games of the style it may fall short, but it is the precision of this, Forager does not try to copy any game, it's just him and that's it. Or at least that's how I see it, its graphic section of simple pixels is quite entertaining, when you see it at the beginning is quite pleasing to the eye.

I still have a lot to explore along the way, I plan to continue seeing what awaits him, I saw many interesting terrains, skeletons, cemeteries, there is a four-pillar puzzle that I solved and I managed to get another object with semi-skill, this time a hat that increases by 50% the value of the coins, not bad.

After this, don't let me lie to you that the hat is cute. I would say it's my lucky hat, or well, not so lucky because a few minutes after opening the chest a bull-buffalo was about to kill me, but at least I would die in style lol. As I said, Forager is a game that I liked in the first shot I had with it, it's quite interesting and to pass the time it's fine. Above all the most important thing I think is the fact of being something "different" (I say it in quotes because in the end many of the concepts will fall into the same, is part of pigeonholing a genre into something) and give a different touch to what can be the survival games to which we are accustomed (coff ... Minecraft).

The truth is that I was hooked for a while, exploring more and more. I can't imagine how it would be in another mode but in the end, the classic is and fulfills everything that a survival game should give us which above all is fun, if you read this far thank you very much for reading my first experience with the game, see you in the next one.

I always thought this game looked stupid but it actually sounds quite cool. Probably should have gotten this for the Nintendo Switch instead of that stupid chicken game I bought.

It seems quite childish without having tried it, but the truth is that when you try it, it's really good, it involves you a lot. Hahaha, which game man? Don't tell me Chicken Range, that one it's horrible

It's called Blazing Beaks. It was on sale for just $1,49 so I saw no harm in getting it. Sounded like a decent rogue lite but I feel there's no content or substance to it. Not as detailed as others in the genre.

Oh, that one I didn't know but looking it up it looked good at first glance. Too bad they didn't make good use of that visual hook with a better backstory.

Yeah. I'll make a ranty post about it eventually. Gonna play it some more to give it a proper chance.

Same here! Got it for the cute platypus/duck then realised it gets boring after a handful of runs... oh well it was just 2 bucks I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I really like Forager! I was a bit iffy about it at first since it has to be played in a little window - if you make it full-screen it looks way too pixelly. But it ended up being a really fulfilling grindy game that's turned into one of my favourite casual time-fillers.

Really would love getting this on Android or something too! I'd probably play it more on the phone or handheld console than I do on PC.

Yes!, something similar happened to me at the beginning that did not convince me much but progressively the game is very addictive. They should bring it out for Android is a game that surely many would play since the only portable way to play it is by the Nintendo Switch. Thanks for stopping by my post @kaelci cheers :)

Wow, I had played this game a long time ago and you made me remember that it is very good, now I want to play it hahahaha.

the fact of survival with puzzle I remember that was what I loved a lot, I hope they have added something to it since the last time I played it.

Yes, the puzzle in survival games is always the best. I don't know how long it's been since you've played it but from what I've researched on the internet they've been adding several interesting things to the game. Thank you very much for stopping by and have fun playing it, cheers @jotaunive

I have already investigated and noticed that several things have been added. You are welcome, my friend
