Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Guardians of the Galaxy, even if you've been living under a rock, you know who these gang of misfits are. This isn't a review about the TellTale Games Guardians of the Galaxy but of the recently released one by Square Enix. To make it clear I've played this on PS4 Pro and ran into zero bugs. Below is my review of the game, as this is my first review any tips or constructive critcism would be appreciated!

The game starts off in the Quarantine zone with The Guardians looking for a monster to bring back to Lady Hellbender, also known as the Monster queen. The opening, although slow, delves right into what the game is about, and that's the wackiness of the Guardians. During this mission Rocket makes a bet you with to shoot down hanging piles of goop, there you (Star-Lord) find out that he hacked your visor in your sleep so that a score board would appear on the HUD. By the end of the mission, Peter shoots one of these hanging piles and a certain little gem falls out of it, which kicks off the events of this game.

From here, the game only gets better, and better, until it eventually ends. You find out that Star-Lord could be a father, you encounter Nova Corp, and you get a giant fine for either having a space llama ( Oh, I forgot to tell you you find a Space Llama in the Quarantine zone) or a fine for having a bunch of illegal tech thanks to everyone's favorite not raccoon, you go up against a giant cult called The Church of Universal Truth that threatens to destroy the galaxy, and you get to fight a Dragon.

The game play is simple. It's not a cover shooter, instead you'll dashing around the stage with your jet boots, pulling off moves that make you feel like a badass all the while jamming out to an amazing playlist. Looking at the combat from the simplest standpoint, it would be easy to say that it i simple. But if you want to take out enemies fast, you're going to need to know their weakness, which teammate works best against them, and when to use the huddle function. The huddle function is what triggers the kick-ass music, and it also buffs you up, and potentially the rest of the Guardians, depending on whether you give an inspirational speech or not. Overall, the combat is repetitive but is done so in a way that it is never boring.

As someone who has never read the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, I was a bit concerned coming into this game. I'm the type of person that likes to know everything about anything in case it is referenced in the game. But Square Enix did a good job implementing characters from the comics without having me scratching my head in wondering who they are. This is a brand new story. It doesn't take place in the comic book universe and despite having characters from said universe, the game makes it clear what role they play. Everyone who has seen the movie knows, well, almost everyone, the story of Drax, Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot. The game does a good job with retelling their backstories. In between missions, you can have conversations with your crew that tells you a little bit about each of them. You can delve further into this by finding Guardian Collectibles while on missions that unlock additional dialogue with the Guardian that Collectible is for.

Overall, this game is an amazing game all around. The combat is pure action. The story telling will have you biting your nails, holding back tears, laughing your ass off, and looking at the screen in complete bewilderment. Each of the Guardians have trauma they need to deal with, and Square Enix does an amazing job showing us it.

On top of all this, are you ready for an MGU (Marvel Gaming Universe)? Square Enix are also the devs behind The Avengers game and The Avengers might just be mentioned once or twice in this game, along with our favorite purple villian Thanos!!

I just want to thank everyone for the votes! Since this review did good, you can expect to see more in the future!

Nicely done!

The only tip I can think of is use all available tag slots. If possible use gaming community tags such as #BATTLE #Splinterlands #SPT #1UP that will award you second lawyer token along side the HIVE/HBD you earn. The SPT and Splinterlands tag is for Splinterlands content only. If you use it on random gaming topics you might get downvoted.
