Blog #19: Gods Unchained Welcome Set - 70 new cards announced! Spotlight: Neutral

in Hive Gaming4 years ago

Today, Immutable surprised us with the news of a new card set. The "Welcome Set" will be distributed to every player, new and existing, in only two days! The intention of this set is to provide new and editable starter decks for players. Until now, one couldn't really edit starter decks, because the cards weren't given to the players. This changes with the new Welcome Set.
To celebrate the new set, I will go into detail about each gods new cards, starting today with neutral. If you prefer to take your own look at the cards, you can find all of them here.

Spotlight: Neutral

Neutral cards might be the most interesting ones, because every god can profit from these. Thus, they potentially have the highest impact on the meta. One of these cards is the Echocaster. A 6 mana 4/4 mystic creature with Ward is nothing special, but its Roar-effect improves it a lot.

The ability to regain a spell from your void, even if it is random, should not be underestimated. Decks often tend to use the same kind of spell (for example removal or mana gain) anyways, so every spell will help them more or less.
The next very interesting creature is Apep's Doomcaller. Especially in Anubian Reanimate decks, this card might become a huge threat. Cards like Sand Scorpion or Canopic Hoarder might trigger its Afterlife-effect and suddenly your whole board becomes deadly unexpectedly. This scares me already.

The next two cards, Achillean Dedicant and Juggernewt, are very similar in a way: they have the same stats and Blitz. For only one additional Mana, Achillean Dedicant is not confused but instead has Protected and Ward. Protected essentially doubles its potential damage and Ward is always nice to have. Plus, the Olympian tribe has much more synergies than Wild right now. Therefore, Achillean Dedicant might be the better choice. The Blitz-mechanic has been mostly reserved for War cards so far, which makes things very interesting.

I also want to mention some interesting new Amazon cards: Springbloom Hunter (1 Mana 2/2, Regen 1) and Hunt Warden (3 Mana 3/4). They are not very special but might still further increase Amazon decks.

Interesting times to come!

I am super excited by the new card set. It is relatively strong compared to the core cards, without devaluing most of them. This way, the meta might change a lot even before the Season 1 set arrives. And by surprisingly dropping 70 new cards on everyone, Immutable will surely get a huge popularity boost within the existing community. What are your thoughts on the Welcome Set? Do you have any other favorite cards?
