Hello Hivers and gamers,
my great passion for video games was born a long time ago.
Today I am 41 years old and my first videogames were the liquid crystal ones like the one in the following picture.

When I was a child there was no internet, there were no smartphones and video game magazines could be counted on half of the fingers of one hand.
I still remember my surprise when I saw my cousin playing Pong at home. I was truly amazed that two lines and a dot on a CRT screen could provide so much fun.

Then at the age of about 13 my first console arrived: the Nintendo 8 Bit (NES).
My parents didn't want to buy it for me because they heard on the news that video games could cause epilepsy (I hated the news for I don't know how long :).
So, instead of buying my favorite comics and school snacks I filled my piggy bank and collected a good part of the money I needed to buy the much desired Nintendo and in the end my father, given my sacrifices, was convinced and Super Mario finally entered my house :)
As you can see from the photo below, I guard my Nintendo with great care because it is the source of amusing videogame memories and above all it is the symbol of my little conquest.

But now we come to the main topic of this beautiful contest.

My worst games and my worst gaming experiences

The subtitle of this post of mine could also be: appearance deceives or even better the cover deceives.

When I was a kid there was no youtube and it was not possible to search for one of the many detailed reviews on games that is easy to find today.

The games couldn't be tried in stores and I could only imagine trying them in my mind looking at the cover and looking at the two or at most three images printed on the back of the game packaging.

And so now I'm telling you about a game that I bought but that going back in time I would have never bought: Top Gun!

Top Gun

Anyone my age surely knows or has seen Tony Scott's Top Gun movie starring Tom Cruise and the beautiful Kelly McGillis.
Top Gun was one of my favorite movies and for this reason when I saw the Top Gun game in a shop I asked my mother:

Mom I chose the game I want as a gift for my birthday!

My birthday comes and the game I wanted comes too.

Often the games that arise from the success of a movie betray expectations and unfortunately it was for Konami's Top Gun, at least for me.

The flight fighting part of the game was not bad.
The perspective of the game was in first person.
You could choose the missiles to use and the radar would indicate the arrival of enemy planes.

The difficulty level was quite high but there was a huge and nerve-wracking aspect of the game that made you want to fly the cartridge instead of the plane:

Landing

After fighting and destroying enemy planes the plane had to land on an aircraft carrier.

Nothing easier will you say!
Imagine in reality a pilot returning from a combat in flight sees the aircraft carrier where he can land.
He would certainly smile and above all he would breathe a sigh of relief.

In Top Gun NO!

In the Konami game landing was definitely the most difficult part!

The landing in the game was so difficult that the pilot Maverick from the movie Top Gun would surely choose to land WITHOUT parachute :)

Yet Konami produced a game that I loved so much: -Castelvania!
But nobody is perfect and everybody can make mistakes.

But I repeat, can you play a game of piloting planes where landing is more difficult than flying and fighting?

If some adult today does not want to fly on an airliner because they are afraid of the landing phase, he could, very probably, have played Top Gun in childhood :)

Obviously we are talking about a game produced many years ago but I assure you that I regret having bought it and, because of Top Gun, I haven't played a flight simulation and combat game for many years.
My disappointment for the flight simulation games has been interrupted only by the PC game Wing Commander that I literally loved.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

If Top Gun was one of my favorite movies, the famous pizza-loving turtles were my favorite cartoon.

I wanted this game so much and I still remember my happiness when I opened the box and inserted the cartridge into my NES.

The graphics were pretty nice and it was a pretty original game because it had two different game views:

When a turtle lost all its life points you could choose another character.

This was a peculiarity of the game that I liked a lot.
The change of the character was possible at any moment of the game.
According to the game scenario or according to the different type of enemies there was a more suitable turtle and others less.

My favorite character was Donatello (image below) who had the best weapon and suitable for more enemies in the game.

To recharge your energy you had to eat a nice piece of pizza.
The pieces of pizza were disseminated in various parts of the game.

The graphics were quite nice especially if we consider the year of the game's release (1989).

The difficulty level of the game was definitely high.

To jump from one platform to another you had to be very precise and you could hardly finish a level of the game without losing several points of energy.

In fact the following screen appeared very often :)

The ninja turtle game, unlike Top Gun, was a good buy.
The audio was not great and the controls in the top view left something to be desired but I had a lot of fun and the levels, although difficult, were varied and challenging.
I have played this game for hours.

A moment! But where is the bad gaming experience?

More than bad gaming experience I have a bad memory related to the game for Nes of ninja turtles.

I lent the game to a friend of mine.
The games cost a lot of money and to get a new game I had to wait until my birthday or the arrival of Santa Claus.
My friend moved to another city because his dad changed jobs and I never saw my Nes cartridge and my beloved digital ninja turtles again and I couldn't save April O'Neil from Shredder's clutches anymore!

I was a kid and I was really hurt!

Ciao Hivers and gamers,
la mia grande passione per i videogiochi è nata tanto tempo fa.
Oggi ho 41 anni e i miei primi videogame sono stati quelli a cristalli liquidi come quello della foto seguente.

Quando ero bambino non esisteva internet, non esistevano gli smartphone e le riviste di videogiochi si contanvano sulla metà delle dita di una mano.
Ricordo ancora il mio stupore quando ho visto mio cugino giocare in casa a Pong. Ero davvero sbalordito che due linee e un puntino su uno schermo a tubo catodico potevano procurare tanto divertimento.

Poi all'età di circa 13 anni è arrivata la mia prima console: la Nintendo 8 Bit (NES).
I miei non volevano comprarmela perchè avevano sentito al telegiornale che i videogiochi potevano favorire l'epilessia (ho odiato i telegiornali per non so quanto tempo :).
Invece di comprare i miei fumetti preferiti e le merendine per la scuola ho riempito il mio salvadanaio e ho raccolto buona parte dei soldi che mi servivano per comprare la tanto desiderata Nintendo e alla fine mio padre, visti i miei sacrifici, si è convinto e Super Mario è entrato finalmente in casa mia :)
Come puoi vedere dalla foto in basso, custodisco la mia Nintendo con tanta cura perchè è la fonte di divertenti ricordi videoludici e soprattutto è il simbolo di una mia piccola conquista.

Ma adesso veniamo all'argomento principale di questo bellissimo contest.

My worst games and my worst gaming experiences

Il sottotitolo di questo mio post potrebbe anche essere: l'apparenza inganna o meglio ancora la copertina inganna.

Quando ero ragazzino non c'era youtube e non era possibile cercare una delle tante dettagliate recensioni sui giochi che invece è facile trovare oggi.

I giochi non potevano essere provati nei negozi e io potevo solo immginare di provarli nella mia mente guardando la copertina e le due o al massiomo tre immagini stampate sul retro della confezione del videogioco.

Ed eccomi al primo gioco che ho comprato ma che ritornando indietro nel tempo non avrei mai comprato: Top Gun!

Chi ha la mia età non può non aver visto il film diretto da Tony Scott dal titolo Top Gun con gli attori Tom Cruise e la bellissima Kelly McGillis.
Top Gun è stato uno dei miei film preferiti e per questo motivo quando ho visto in un negozio il gioco Top Gun ho chiesto a mia madre di segnarsi il nome e comprarmelo per il giorno del mio compleanno.
Arriva il giorno del mio compleanno e arriva anche il gioco che desideravo.

Spesso i giochi che nascono dal successo di un film cinematografico tradiscono le aspettative e purtroppo così è stato per Top Gun della Konami, almeno per me.

La parte del gioco relativa ai combattimenti in volo non era male.
La prospettiva del gioco era in prima persona.
Potevi scegliere i missili da utilizzare e il radar ti indicava l'arrivo degli aerei nemici.

Il livello di difficoltà era abbastanza alto ma c'era un enorme e snervante aspetto del gioco che ti faceva venire voglia di far volare la cartuccia invece dell'aereo:

L'atterraggio

Dopo aver combattuto e distrutto gli aerei nemici l'aereo doveva atterrare su una portaerei.

Niente di più facile direte voi!
Immaginate nella realtà un pilota che di ritorno da un combattimento in volo vede la portaerei dove può atterrare.
Certamente sorriderebbe e soprattutto tirerebbe un sospiro di sollievo.

In Top Gun NO!

Nel gioco della Konami atterrare era decisamente la parte più difficile!

L'atterraggio nel gioco era talmente difficile che il pilota Maverick del film Top Gun avrebbe sicuramente scelto di buttarsi SENZA il paracadute :)

Eppure la Konami ha sfoderato un gioco che ho amato tanto come Castelvania!
Ma nessuno è perfetto e tutti possono sbagliare.

Dai ma si può giocare ad un gioco di pilotaggio di aerei dove atterrare è più difficile che volare e combattere?

Se qualche adulto di oggi ha paura dell'aereo e in particolare della fase dell'atterraggio potrebbe con molta probabilità aver giocato durante l'infanzia a Top Gun :)

L'aereo che non riusciva ad atterrare finiva nell'acqua ma anche la konami con questo gioco ha fatto un vero e proprio buco nell'acqua.

Ovviamente parliamo di un gioco uscito molti anni fa ma vi assicuro che mi sono pentito di averlo comprato e non ho più giocato ad un gioco di simulazione di volo per molti anni.
La mia delusione per i giochi di simulazione di volo è stata interrotta solo dal gioco Wing Commander per PC che ho, invece, letteralmente amato.

Se Top Gun era uno dei miei film preferiti, le tartarughe golose di pizza erano il mio cartone animato preferito.

Desideravo tanto questo gioco e ancora mi ricordo la mia felicità quando ho aperto la confezione e ho inserito la cartuccia nel mio NES.

La grafica era abbastanza carina ed era anche abbastanza originale considerato l'anno di produzione.
Il gioco si svolgeva in due visuali di gioco differenti:

una visuale dall'alto

una visuale 2D (Action/Platform)

Quando una tartaruga perdeva tutti i punti vita si poteva scegliere un altro personaggio.

Questa era una particolarità del gioco che mi piaceva molto.
Il cambio del personaggio era possibile in ogni momento del gioco.
In base al quadro di gioco e al Boss del livello c'era una tartaruga più adatta e altre meno.

Il mio personaggio preferito era Donatello (immagine in basso) che aveva l'arma migliore e adatta a più quadri/nemici di gioco

Per ricaricare l'energia era necessario mangiare un bel pezzo di pizza.
I pezzi di pizza erano disseminati in varie parti del gioco.

La grafica era abbastanza carina soprattutto se consideriamo l'anno dell'uscita del gioco (1989).

Il livello di difficoltà del gioco era decisamente alto.
Per saltare bisognava essere molto precisi e difficilmente riuscivi a finire un quadro di gioco senza aver perso almeno un punto di energia.

Infatti la seguente schermata appariva molto spesso :)

Il gioco delle tartarughe ninja a differenza di Top Gun è stato un buon acquisto.
L'audio non era granchè e i comandi nella parte inquadrata dall'altro lasciavano alquanto a desiderare ma mi sono molto divertito e i livelli anche se difficili erano vari e stimolanti.
Ho giocato tante ore a questo gioco.

Hey ma allora dove è la brutta esperienza di gioco?

Più che brutta esperienza di gioco ho un brutto ricordo legato al gioco per Nes delle tartarughe ninja.

Prestai il gioco ad un mio amico.
I giochi costavano tanto e per avere un nuovo gioco dovevo aspettare il giorno del mio compleanno o l'arrivo di Babbo Natale.
Il mio amico si trasferì in un'altra città perchè il papà cambiò lavoro e io non ho più rivisto la mia cartuccia del Nes e tantomeno le mie amate tartarughe ninja digitali e non ho potuto più salvare April O'Neil dalle grinfie di Shredder!

Ero un ragazzino e ci rimasi davvero male!

Very descriptive your publication @libertycrypto27, no doubt those of us who have a few years above the quality of games in our childhood were quite precarious compared to the spectacular world of graphics that is counted today. Greetings

@madridbg We have played many difficult and bad games graphically but on the other hand we played and trained our imagination a lot and this is not little ;)

I will never forget that news, this also happened with my parents and not only with the video games also gave a touch of Satanism to see images of pikachu . I could still get epilepsy, my parents would say, because of the strange news ..... Ninja Turtles I remember was a very nice game!

Our parents' preoccupation was caused by exaggerated news. For example, it is true that video games can accentuate epillepsy but only for some predisposed people, whose number in percentage is really small.

Io non ho mai avuto il Nintendo da piccolo.
Sono riuscito ad avere il commodore 64 ma con fatica estrema, mentre i miei amici erano già oltre.
Il sega master system era da bambini fortunati. !BEER

la grafica ai tempi era meravigliosa. Adesso fa male agli occhi ahahahahhahahaha

Hai proprio ragione @robibasa 😂 😂
Io ho avuto solo la nintendo poi sono passato al PC e non ho più pensato alle console.
Hai ragione alcuni bambini più fortunati avevano tutte le console possibili e immaginabili.
Un mio amico aveva sia il nintendo che il sega master system e ogni volta che usciva una nuova console i genitori lo accontentavano immediatamente.
L'ho rivisto un pò di tempo fa e l'ho trovato davvero male... ti assicuro che noi che abbiamo sudato ogni gioco siamo stati più fortunati perchè abbiamo ereditato un carattere e un approccio ai problemi decisamente migliore...
