Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - Episode 7

Rebuilding and retraining

Freshly released from our mercenary contract, it's back to the grind to replenish our army. We begin with 54 units, mostly recruits (34 fresh recruits, yikes), and not a single unit above tier 3. We've got some work ahead to correct this!

We also have to recall Hespedia into our party again since she was separated from us after our tragic loss.

image.png

It takes some time for our companions to reach us, but the nice thing is that we don't have to sit in one place - they're able to find us basically wherever we go (at least, so far as I can tell that seems to be the case). Often I'll wait in a city while they catch up to me if I have anything to do, like smithing for example, but this time I spot a group of bandits that are just too tempting. We need the EXP really badly to train up our recruits and there's nothing better to do that with than some outnumbered poorly equipped bandits.

image.png

Case in point: just look at how many of our troops are ready for an upgrade from this single combat! 23 of my 34 recruits can be upgraded to actually useful soldiers.

image.png

Since we're right beside a hideout anyhow too, we snap up the chance to take out the bandit hideout and snag some extra loot and EXP. While clearing the seaside bandit hideout, we take a moment to ponder what the hell all the white stuff is that's all over the pile of timbers.

image.png
We don't kink shame here usually but, seriously, what the fuck guys? ಠ_ಠ

We also break from convention and actually duel a boss. He had the guts to come out with two soldiers against my entire force, so... that kind of bravery deserves a nod of respect - right before I cave his head in with a mace, of course.

That puff of red right there? That's what used to be his face. RIP Sea Raider Boss. You put up a good fight, but not good enough.

We head back to town to sell our slaves cough ransom our prisoners. They're not worth much, unsurprisingly, but hey... for now any money is worth it if we're headed to town anyhow. We're not going to be smashing trained armies right now and collecting those high-profit prisoners for a while yet so we'll take what we can get.

We head off to do a bit of trading to keep our pocket full as we replenish our army since getting our troops upgraded has taken us from 15,000 Denars in our pocket down to about 4,000. Then we take a break for a bit of marathon smithing. Once completed, it's time to return to the best money-making scheme we have.

You know the one by now, right?

Of course you do.

Horse trading!

Ain't no trading like horse trading.

After that, we're kind of on a roll. We drop in to crash the party at another bandit hideout, and take a moment to check out our troop upgrade tree afterward. We're rocking a full party of 61 now, and only 11 recruits are left to upgrade. Not too bad!

The troop upgrade tree is an invaluable tool when you're not sticking to a single culture. Since my army is a hodge-podge of several different cultures right now, this gives me an idea about what upgrade path I should follow to achieve the troop composition I'm looking for. You can also see the exact weapon/armor loadout they're carrying, and if they have multiple outfit types you can view the different sets here as well. I find it really easy to lose myself in this menu looking at all the various details it provides - though I try to keep that to a minimum while I'm actually recording of course.

With this done, we take a moment to pick up a couple of quests thinking that it'll be easy to complete them and will provide us with some quick pocket money.

Spoiler: It doesn't go that way for us.

First, we have to protect some guy's family member from revenge he probably deserves for killing someone else's family member. Eye for an eye and all that. But, we're going to step in since we don't care about petty feuds, we care about money.

image.png

Our second quest comes from another Mot family member who's dumbass gambling addiction cost him the deed to some farmland they owned. They'd like us to gamble it back for them. How hard could it be, eh?

image.png

As it turns out, pretty freaking hard. Goodbye 2,000 Denar of my own money, and so long Perin of Mot's land deed.

image.png

Look at that smug fucking face. His frown says 'oh man I'm so sorry about this' but those fucking eyes say 'eat shit, I win, I'm the best'.

Aaaaaand that's where we end it. We're still sitting on 13,000 Denar and our army is back to full capacity and relatively well trained, so all in all... it's been a pretty good session.

Until next time friends, happy gaming!

I haven't seen you here for a while, it's good to see you enjoying this game and making a post about it!

The end was quite funny, having to protect a member of the royal family who cannot protect himself must only be one of the things we have seen the most in movies that talk about the middle ages, but it is something that we always enjoy seeing, at least to laugh a bit.

Honestly it was so weird to have to cart the guy around to protect him from being killed for murdering some other guy! I did it of course but wow 😂 Next EP you get to see how I actually ended up dealing with the other family.

My power of persuasion via speach is... Not good. But my mace is a pretty good diplomat.

Love this game, I have logged so many hours in it..

It's so much fun. I loved Warband and this is a definite improvement on almost all aspects.
