Football, collectible cards and blockchain, the winning combination is Sorare...

Whoever has read my blog before will know that this is a very different topic to the one I regularly work on, but I wanted to vary it a bit; so I decided to comment on what my experience has been since I started in Sorare, in July 2020, and how I have grown up so far, so let's go there.

What is Sorare

A fantasy football game linked to the Ethereum blockchain (ETH) in which you can collect and compete with licensed cards from players of more than 100 teams to win other cards and/or rewards in ETH, this last thing also makes it an investment opportunity. I will tell you my case:

Sorare as an investment

The cards in Sorare are NFT, so they are interchangeable and can be bought and sold on the domestic market of the game.

At the beginning I played with the free cards (I didn't understand very well the game system, which I will explain a little later), but soon I was motivated to buy my first cards. I spent on these three approximately 12 USD, 0.053 ETH in that day:

I still have Van Durmen card. Henrique card I sold at 0.018 ETH (0.004 ETH profit) and Pablo Sisniega card was by far my best sale: I bought it at 0.021 ETH (3.42 USD that day) and sold it at 0.254 ETH (97.45 USD that day). In other words, with just one card I earned over 90 USD. I reinvested that money to buy 10 more cards and now I have a better team.

More about the cards

To understand the buy/sell part of Sorare a little bit, I must clarify that the cards have four "levels" of rarity:

  • Commons: Cannot be sold or exchanged. You get a certain amount when you start the game, but then you will have to invest if you want to keep going, because their power to compete is very limited.
  • Rare: These are like the Pablo Sisniega card that I sold. There are up to 100 rare cards from each player per edition.
  • Superares: Here it gets more interesting. These have a limit of up to 10 cards per player and in competition are at least twice as effective as the rares.
  • Unique: The name says so. There is only one card from each edition and they are by far the strongest and most expensive in the game.

Here is an example with Koke of Atlético Madrid, edition 2019-2020 season in its different models (common, rare, superare and unique, from left to right):

Game mode

Sorare is played under the scheme called SO5 Fantasy, the DT (that is you or me) will choose five cards to form his team: a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, a striker and an extra card that can be from any position (except goalkeeper, obviously). Finally you will select your captain, who will have an extra bonus.

The best thing about this game is that your team's performance will depend on the actual statistics of the players with their respective clubs. In other words, if Neymar plays a great game, that will be reflected in his SO5 Fantasy score, but if he gets injured or doesn't enter the field he simply won't have any points, regardless of whether he is Neymar or the rarity of the card.

Every week there are new competitions with different prizes, and you can compete with several teams simultaneously to increase your chances of winning a card.

Final considerations

I truly believe that this game is a great investment in the medium/long term. In addition to the fact that it is constantly growing, it has an optimal number of users and a market that remains active in buy/sell.

They recently added major teams such as PSG (France), Juventus (Italy) and Bayern (Germany), and Discord's servers welcome new users daily. It is still a growing project, but it is growing well.

My idea, which I have partly implemented until now, is to buy players between 19 and 25 years old cheaply (because they don't play their clubs very often), with good projection. I love football and money, and I see Sorare as a provider of both things.

Finally, if anyone wants to join, they can do so from my referral link by clicking here. Thank you.

Sorare primeras tres cartas.png

Gracias.
