➤ Age of Empires II is a real time strategy game, and I think that when I talk about this genre, this game is the first thing that comes to my mind. I think it has a lot to offer us even for its antiquity, since the game is currently 20 years old since its release, and despite its graphic quality, the gameplay layout that this game brings us I think is what has made it worthy of its success. We are talking about a game set in medieval times with more than 13 civilizations available to choose from, taking into account all the expansions that have been released. Where we must create an empire or city from scratch and form an army capable of killing our enemies.

➤ Each of the civilizations within the game are different, with this I mean that the whole aspect of its infrastructure changes, even there are buildings that have or do not have unlike others, also each of the soldiers are different, with varying characteristics, between strength, speed, defense and costs. Among its civilizations we find the Byzantines, the Vikings, the Turks, the Spanish, the English, the Aztecs, the Huns, among many others.
➤ Its campaign mode is excessively long and wide, having a total of 5 campaigns joining all the expansions, each one of them with sub-stories divided into chapters, different objectives, different civilizations and different game modes. The most curious thing about this is that for each game we can take even more than an hour depending on our game mode and the difficulty of the level, that is, we have hours and hours to dedicate to this game to complete it 100%.
➤ As I said before, we start from 0, with only an urban center from which we create villagers to start building our empire. We have to advance between ages to unlock new structures and improvements for both our city and our army. We have 4 fundamental resources, which are food, gold, wood and rock. Gold is always the scarcest among these, we will find it in different mines scattered around the map and the time will come when we will have to fight for them. Each of these are necessary, either to build new buildings, improve them, create soldiers and their improvements, and even create castles. In fact, we can create quite beautiful cities.
➤ There are several units that we can use for our army, such as spearmen, swordsmen, knights, cataphracts, archers, crossbowmen, warships, and in terms of siege we have catapults, battering rams, artillerymen, halberdiers, stone throwers and many more. In fact we have a mechanic in which we can organize our army in different ways and positions. There is a total limit of 200 population, so we would be able to create 200 soldiers.
➤ We can make really huge and varied armies, with different units that can serve as a strategy or as a perfect offense for the characteristics that our enemy could have, and that's what the game is about, isn't it? Knowing how to use strategy to make the most of our resources and units, maximize their potential and the damage they can do in an attack on our enemy. For example if we know that our enemy has an army of only cavalry and short distance defense structures, the best thing to do would be to attack with spearmen and artillery from afar.

➤ With a single army we will not be able to destroy an entire city, or well, that depends on the difficulty provided by our opponent, we must constantly attack and along with that have a good defense, until victory. The defense of the cities can be broken in any way, just do not let them rest. Just destroying most of their entire city and wiping out each of their urban centers and most of their villagers is more than enough to obtain victory. Although if we talk about the campaign mode, this changes according to our objectives.
➤ Age of Empires 2 is not far behind when I say that it is one of the best strategy games, and I think many of us would agree with that. And I would say that for its time, it was the best of them all. It is quite an immersive game that can give us too many hours of entertainment and even know a little about the history of the past times. ➤ Age of Empires II es un juego de estrategia en tiempo real, y creo que cuando hablo de este género, este juego es lo primero que se me viene a la mente. Creo que tiene mucho que ofrecernos incluso para su antigüedad, ya que actualmente el juego tiene 20 años desde su lanzamiento, y a pesar de su calidad gráfica la disposición en cuanto a jugabilidad que este juego nos trae creo que es lo que lo ha hecho merecedor de su éxito. Hablamos de un juego ambientado en la época medieval con más de 13 civilizaciones disponibles para elegir, teniendo en cuenta todas las expansiones que han salido. Donde debemos crear un imperio o ciudad desde cero y formar un ejército capaz de acabar con nuestros enemigos.

➤ Cada una de las civilizaciones dentro del juego son distintas, con esto me refiero a que todo el aspecto de su infraestructura cambia, incluso hay edificios que tienen o no tienen a diferencia de otras, también cada uno de los soldados son diferentes, con características variantes, entre fuerza, velocidad defensa y costos. Entre sus civilizaciones nos encontramos con los bizantinos, los vikingos, los turcos, los españoles, los ingleses, los aztecas, los hunos, entre otras muchas más.
➤ Su modo campaña es excesivamente largo y amplio, teniendo un total de 5 campañas juntando todas las expansiones, cada una de ella con subhistorias divididas en capítulos, diferentes objetivos, diferentes civilizaciones y diferentes modos de juego. Lo más curioso de esto es que por cada partida nos podemos tomar incluso más de una hora según nuestro modo de juego y la dificultad del nivel, es decir, tenemos horas y horas para poder dedicarle a este juego hasta completarlo al 100%.
➤ Como dije anteriormente, comenzamos desde 0, con solo un centro urbano desde el cual creamos aldeanos para comenzar a armar nuestro imperio. Tenemos que ir avanzando entre edades para desbloquear nuevas estructuras y mejoras tanto para nuestra ciudad como para nuestro ejército. Tenemos 4 recursos fundamentales, que son la comida, el oro, la madera y la roca. El oro siempre es el más escaso entre estos, nos lo encontraremos en distintas minas repartidas por el mapa y llegará la ocasión en la que tendremos que luchar por ellas. Cada uno de estos son necesarios, ya sea para construir nuevos edificios, mejorarlos, crear soldados y sus mejoras, e incluso, crear castillos. De hecho, podemos llegar a crear ciudades bastante hermosas.
➤ Existen varias unidades que podemos emplear para nuestro ejército, como los lanceros, espadachines, caballeros, catafractas, arqueros, ballesteros, barcos de guerra, y en cuanto a asedio tenemos catapultas, arietes, artilleros, alabarderos, lanzapiedras y muchos más. De hecho tenemos un mecanismo en el cual podemos organizar a nuestro ejército de distintas formas y posiciones. Existe un limite total de 200 de población, por lo cual seríamos capaces de llegar a crear 200 soldados.
➤ Podemos hacer ejércitos realmente enormes y variados, con distintas unidades que nos puedan servir como estrategia o como una ofensa perfecta para las características que podría tener nuestro enemigo, y de eso trata el juego, ¿no? De saber utilizar la estrategia para aprovechar al máximo nuestros recursos y unidades, maximizar su potencial y el daño que puedan hacer en un ataque a nuestro enemigo. Por ejemplo si sabemos que nuestro enemigo tiene un ejército de solo caballería y estructuras de defensa a distancia corta, lo mejor sería atacar con lanceros y artillería desde lejos.

➤ Con un solo ejército no seremos capaces de destruir una ciudad entera, o bueno, eso depende de la dificultad que nos provea nuestro contrincante, hay que atacar constantemente y junto a eso tener una buena defensa, hasta obtener la victoria. La defensa de las ciudades se pueden quebrantar de cualquier forma, solo no hay que dejarlos descansar. Con solo destruir la mayor parte de su ciudad entera y acabar con cada uno de sus centros urbanos y la mayoría de sus aldeanos, es más que suficiente para obtener la victoria. Aunque si hablamos del modo campaña, esto cambia según nuestros objetivos.
➤ Age of Empires 2 no se queda para nada atrás cuando digo que es uno de los mejores juegos de estrategia, y creo que muchos podríamos estar de acuerdos con eso. Y diría que para su época, fue el mejor de todos. Es un juego bastante inmersivo que nos puede dar demasiadas horas de entretenimiento e incluso conocer un poco sobre la historia de los tiempos pasados. Totalmente de acuerdo, es uno de mis favoritos de los juegos de estrategia, aunque he de decir que me gusta mucho más el AOE 3, es un juegazo. Gracias por pasarte por acá, ¡saludos!
Honestamente nunca he jugado AOE, a pesar de ser un clásico de estrategia, nunca me he animado porque nunca me sentí atraído por el game. Quiero decir, los juegos de estrategia me gustan, pero, me fui por juegos como W3 en vez de AOE.
De todos modos, el juego se ve realmente cool, haces que parezca que sea mucho más grande que W3 en el aspecto de contenido y eso es bastante interesante, tal vez es un juego con mucho contenido para ofrecer y que por ser un estúpido no he podido disfrutar XD
Es que me atrevería a decir que sí, tiene mucho más contenido que W3, diría que bastante más. Pero aún así W3 también es una joya y un clásico de los juegos de estrategia, y si te gusta W3 tal vez también te guste AOE, jeje.
