Before I start, I would like to say that the game I will talk about next was created by only two people. This is an important fact to keep in mind, especially because of the great quality of this title in many of its aspects. Fight'N Rage is a love letter to the pioneers of the beat em up genre, those games that, in those days, were usually played on arcade machines.
On this occasion I will not talk about the story, mostly because the game does not tell you the story or put you in context, you are thrown straight into the action and although as you progress you may be able to intuit it for yourself, reading the very few dialogues that there are, it will depend on each player to interpret it. The only clear thing is that, for some reason, the human race is at war against a strange race of animals, these have a deep hatred towards humans and are trying to eradicate them completely.
At the beginning we will have to choose between 3 main characters; Gal, F. Norris and possibly the best character ever created, Ricardo, a muscular bull with pants, I could easily spend the whole publication talking about him, he is magnificent. No matter which character we choose, the story will always be the same, as well as the levels and the enemies we will defeat, nothing will change.
However, each will have their own style of play, although actually Gal and Norris are quite similar with a fast fighting style, while Ricardo on the other hand is much, much slower, but causes more damage and withstands more blows.
The gameplay has the classic 2D side-scrolling style where we will have basic attacks that we can combine and special moves that will do more damage. The combat manages to have that fluidity that encourages you to chain combos with multiple enemies, although a negative point is that, despite this fluidity, each character will have very few moves, so perhaps for some it may feel somewhat repetitive as more hours of play pass. Although personally I never had that feeling during my entire playthrough, it is extremely fun to try to make long combos and see how our score increases.
Something curious is that the energy bar is shared with our health bar, when this bar is "overloaded" we can perform special moves without any penalty, when it is not, each special move will subtract health, so we can not abuse the skills.
The difficulty is interesting, complicated but simple at the same time. This is due to the fact that, although we have a limited number of lives and in several advanced levels of the game enemies will appear in large numbers, when we die we can retry right from where we left off, without any penalty, so in that sense it is quite friendly to the player.
In certain levels we will face different types of bosses and, although some may feel a little simple, most of these enemies will be quite good, many have certain fun and complicated mechanics that will challenge us when facing them.
The game has a very old school design, it feels as if we were playing in a modern arcade machine, with nicer designs and more polished mechanics. Also, in many occasions the soundtrack achieves its purpose, giving that extra plus to the retro that will make you enjoy it more.
With all this I do not want to say that Fight'N Rage is a masterpiece, it is not perfect nor does it want to be, it does not innovate in the genre, but neither tries nor needs it, it is a game that has a clear objective; To be a simple but very fun beat em up, with a lot of replayability and that, depending on what each player is looking for, can provide dozens of hours of fun. Finally, Ricardo deserves his own game, he has a lot of style.

Antes de comenzar me gustaría decir que el juego del que hablare a continuación fue creado únicamente por dos personas. Es un dato importante a tener en cuenta, sobre todo por la gran calidad de este título en muchos de sus aspectos. Fight’N Rage es una carta de amor a los pioneros del genero de los beat em up, aquellos juegos que, en esos tiempos, usualmente se jugaban en las máquinas recreativas.
En esta ocasión no hablaré de historia, más que nada porque el juego no te la cuenta ni te pone en contexto, te lanzan directo a la acción y aunque conforme avances quizás puedas intuirla por ti mismo, leyendo los muy escasos diálogos que hay, dependerá de cada jugador interpretarla. Lo único claro es que, por alguna razón, la raza humana está en guerra contra una extraña raza de animales, estos tienen un odio profundo hacia los humanos y están intentando erradicarlos por completo.
Al comenzar tendremos a elegir entre 3 personajes principales; Gal, F. Norris y posiblemente el mejor personaje jamás creado, Ricardo, un toro musculoso con pantalones, fácilmente podría pasarme toda la publicación hablando de él, es magnífico. Sin importar a que personaje escojamos la historia siempre será la misma, así como los niveles y los enemigos que derrotaremos, nada cambiará.
Sin embargo, cada uno tendrá su propio estilo de juego, aunque realmente Gal y Norris son bastante similares con un estilo de lucha rápido, mientras que Ricardo por otro lado es muchísimo más lento, pero causa más daño y resiste más golpes.
La jugabilidad cuenta con el clásico estilo de desplazamiento lateral en 2D donde contaremos con ataques básicos que podremos combinar y movimientos especiales que harán más daño. El combate logra tener esa fluidez que te anima a encadenar combos con múltiples enemigos, aunque un punto negativo es que, a pesar de esta fluidez, cada personaje contará con muy pocos movimientos, por lo que quizás para algunos pueda sentirse un tanto repetitivo conforme más horas de juego pasen. Aunque personalmente durante todo el trayecto de mi partida nunca tuve ese sentimiento, es sumamente divertido intentar hacer combos largos y ver como aumenta nuestro score.
Algo curioso es que la barra de energía se comparte con nuestra barra de salud, cuando esta barra esté “sobrecargada” podremos ejecutar movimientos especiales sin penalización alguna, cuando no lo esté, cada movimiento especial nos restará salud, por lo que no podremos abusar de las habilidades.
La dificultad es interesante, complicada pero sencilla a la vez. Esto debido a que, si bien tenemos un número limitado de vidas y en varios niveles avanzados del juego nos aparecerán enemigos bastante rudos o en grandes cantidades, al momento de morir podremos reintentar justo desde donde nos quedamos, sin penalización alguna, por lo que en ese sentido es bastante amigable con el jugador.
En determinados niveles nos enfrentaremos con distintos tipos de jefes y, aunque alguno que otro puede sentirse algo simple, la mayoría de estos enemigos estarán bastante bien, muchos tienen ciertas mecánicas divertidas y complicadas a la vez que nos supondrán un reto a la hora de enfrentarlos.
El juego tiene un diseño muy old school, se siente como si estuviéramos jugando en una maquina recreativa moderna, con diseños mas lindos y mecánicas mas pulidas. También, en muchas ocasiones la banda sonora logra su cometido, otorgándole ese plus extra a lo retro que hará que lo disfrutes mas.
Con todo esto no quiero decir que Fight’N Rage sea una obra maestra, no es perfecto ni quiere serlo, no innova en el género, pero tampoco lo intenta ni lo necesita, es un juego que tiene un objetivo claro; Ser un simple pero muy divertido beat em up, con mucha rejugabilidad y que, dependiendo de lo que busque cada jugador, puede brindar decenas de horas de diversión. Para acabar, decir que Ricardo merece su propio juego, tiene mucho estilo.
Este juego lo conocí hace unos años por casualidad, y tengo bastante tiempo que no lo juego, un par de años quizá, pero es un juegazo, como dices, a pesar de su difícultad te deja seguir donde te quedas sin ningún problema, ya queda por parte de cada quien si se esfuerza en acabarlo consumiendo la menor cantidad de vidas posibles o si vas a saco por el juego, aparte de todas las ramificaciones que tiene, bastante variado y de bonus corre en cualquier pc haha.
Ese ultimo bonus es el mas valioso para mi con el equipo tan bajo que tengo jsjs 😆.
