Yesterday my husband, @marinmex, was looking for an initiative that would encourage him to participate, when he found one from the Hive Gaming community, it was obviously video games, which is not exactly the category in which we excel. At first I thought that we wouldn't have much to contribute, and he explained that he planned to share his experience on this subject, which may be very different from the other participants, but it is his and he wanted to tell about it. When he made me a sketch of how he was going to approach it, I thought it was very nice and even encouraged me to prepare my entry, which I am now showing you.

If you want to know the details of this initiative you can find them HERE

Before knowing the video games

When I was a child, I didn't even know about the existence of video games, which I now find great, because I had a childhood in which I enjoyed traditional games such as: cat and mouse, cop and thief, headdress, rubber ball, handkerchief, bicycle, skateboard and many more. In my house I had only one hour in the afternoon to watch cartoons, I don't know if there was cable TV, the truth is that we had no other options than the national open signal channels, so we had the joy of going out to play in the street, in front of my house and under supervision. We were running, sweating, spending our energy and interacting with the other children in the neighborhood. When our mom called us, we would come in the house sweaty and happy to take a bath and eat dinner... what beautiful days. Of course, to go out, we had to do our homework first, a brilliant strategy for not having to be behind us to do it, but rather we wanted to finish it early so we could play. That's how it was all my childhood and part of my adolescence.

My first contact

Shortly after my 15th birthday, my parents sold the house where we lived to move out of town, in this case to Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui State, Venezuela. It was then that we had for the first time a video game console, I guess my parents bought it with some of the money from the sale of the house. It was 1989 and it was an Atari of that time, by that time we had moved to an apartment, so I also suppose that our parents wanted to make our new life more pleasant and with the least possible damage and what better way than with one of those trendy games that did not require us to go out to the street.

My beginnings

We are four siblings and I am the oldest, I used to see my siblings playing excited when I was just trying to understand the games, even though I was the oldest, I understood them the least; at that time, and even now, I wonder how children know what they have to do to move forward, because they do not read instructions and yet learn the science of each game; meanwhile I was frustrated because all I was doing was losing lives without moving forward. It was a bad start.

My evolution

As time went by, my brothers wanted to play more and I wanted to play less, we took turns in that precious control and the time came when I gave them my place. I remember the only time I tried to play Mario Bross, I didn't know what to do or where to go, I didn't see the point and I didn't even finish playing that time. And so it was with every single game that the console brought. Ahhh, but there was one that I finally liked, one of a ship that is on the ground, and it shoots at flying objects that are going down and shooting, I only had to shoot at them to eliminate them and try not to let them hit me with their bullets and not to let them advance so that they wouldn't touch me. I had fun at times with that particular one, however I didn't feel that passion that others felt, I even kept giving up my turn.

Years went by and as an adult and married woman, my husband and I bought a Wii, mostly to exercise. We also lived in an apartment and we thought it would be a good idea to stimulate physical practice through something fun that we could also share as a family. We came to play with our children: tennis, baseball, step, dance, among others that I do not remember now. Although at that time we didn't use it much either, we had little free time, but we enjoyed it. It happens that more than three years ago we moved from the city, and that console is still packed in some moving box, but I must emphasize that I do like it.

In conclusion

As you can see, I think that in general I don't have a lot of energy to play videogames, although sometimes I think that I haven't been touched by one that I love, but I'll tell you a secret: I don't like anything that catches me and when I know something that can be addictive I move away, that's why I've never played Candy Crush, I saw everyone hooked on it and I didn't want this one. Sometimes I think that I am from a generation that is not compatible with this type of devices, even my children have much more ability than me for all those electronic things, they play on their phones and when I watch them I remember how frustrating it was in my childhood to try, reason why I left it aside.

My children's favorite game is MineCraft, I think it's a good option for them because they build anything they want, but when they started it I observed what it was all about, it became very complex how to move the controls, even that basic aspect terrifies me and they do it with impressive ease.

And this was the summary of my brief experience so far with video games, it made me go back to my childhood and I even remembered details of the beautiful view of the sea I had in the place where I played them with my brothers. It was nice for me to relive so many moments.
