Plague Inc Part 2 - Finally beating the Shadow Plague

For those who tuned in to my first attempt (which you can read here ) you'll see that I quickly had my dreams of a vampiric annihilation quickly ruined by the defenders of Humanity. The darkness, while strong, could not take root before a cure was found and deployed or before earth defenders vanquished my vampire army.

In each of my attempts, I ran into similar issues regardless of where I started that all lead to the same ending for the most part. Camping too long in each territory lead to murder cult news quickly spreading. Trying to cover the entire planet with my plague quietly lead to being discovered before I was able to fully infect each country. It was very challenging, but ultimately I did find a method that worked really well.

After much trial and error I discovered that starting out by unlocking the plague to infect humans was quite simply the wrong path for me. Rather than trying to infect humanity early, I instead waged war against humanity early. You see, I thought the game mechanics would lead to the world defenders being sort've an infinite enemy until I was able to conquer the world. This turned out not to be the case and ultimately lead to a sweet, sweet victory and ultimately my beating of the last mode on Normal game mode.

First, I started out in Greenland and immediately activated the Blood Rage ability. This ability allows your Vampire to attack the local population (or labs/fortresses if present) for both points (which I also did not realize it would farm so easily) and for health regeneration from devouring the life force of the local population. This allowed me to quickly unlock the initial skills I needed while also knocking one entire country off the list before really even getting started. This did lead to some awareness, but it did not really pull the world response that I expected it would. I continued my onslaught to the neighboring island of Iceland where we quickly defeated local security forces and destroyed the country.

Around this time we saw the warriors of humanity begin to take notice of our activities (I mean, I've devoured two countries at this point!) and began building fortress institutions across the world. This is where things get interesting. They did not immediately begin working on a cure because there simply was nothing to cure. They were just fighting the most badass vampire in all zee lands! Moving quickly, I charged into each fortress with my most powerful creature of death and each time defeated them with haste. By not camping any location too long, I was able to hit each fortress before they became too powerful. It was a bloodbath since I had A. maxed out my Blood Rage and B. gave them basically ZERO time to prepare.

After the annihilation of anyone who would present a danger to my future vampire army, I started building lairs. I positioned lairs in a way that would allow me to quickly cover the entire globe if I needed to respond to an event or something I did not plan for. After building my lairs, it was time to begin the infection phase. By finishing the unlocks for our abilities combined with an immediate full transmission unlock, our Shadow Plague began to spread like wild fire. Before the WHO could even realize what was happening, we had infected most of the planet.

Then, I unleashed hell by mutating our pathogen to rapidly transform the host into blood-sucking vampires. Basically, anyone who was a carrier (most of the planet at this point) immediately began the process of becoming a minion of the night, and a slave to the Overlord. This caused our infection rate to skyrocket. Around this time the WHO woke up and decided to try creating a cure. Their attempts were futile as we moved from location to location, burning their labs to the ground and destroying all hope of humanity finding a cure for the vampiric onslaught that was before them.

Humanity fell. Behold, the rise of the Vampire!

I think I might have to download Plague Inc and try this vampire plague. It sounds awesome with the fortresses and stuff. It will have to be a while after FFXIV Endwalker releases though :P

It was quite enjoyable! I feel like there has to be another strategy for winning with the plague earlier on vs. the onslaught route I chose haha. I will find it!

The Simian Flu gameplay was also pretty stellar if you didn't play that one. You get to travel your Ape 'tribes' around and fight armies, haha. It's pretty fun and if you're a Planet of the Apes fan, you'll enjoy it.

Now I can finally play "The Cure" DLC to try and save the world from each infection. It looks pretty in-depth!

Looks like you are playing this on PC? Which I didn't even realise was a thing I played it on my phone years ago - definitely a good one for a bit of relatively short term fun (for a strategy game that is! - My trouble is I really like strategy, but most in that genre are gigantic time sinks!)

!PIZZA

Absolutely! It's such a fun game and the PC version is just as great as the mobile version (I have both).

I looove strategy games and am really excited by grand strategy. One of my favorite games is the Crusader Kings franchise. I just don't have the time to sink into them the way I used to!

!PIZZA

Never played any Crusader Kings but if I find myself with a load of time I'll check it out!

Have you played Stellaris? Can't get much more grand than that!

Likewise had experience of this game on mobile and wasted many hours. Which my employer paid for!
Greenland is a hard start, well done.

Haha I love my mobile version. It keeps me occupied in the airports!

Man this looks fun. I remember spending way too much time playing the first one. Now I have to download it! Thanks for sharing.

It's excellent! I even have it on my mobile device for those moments where I'm stuck at the airport or in a situation where I need to kill some time!

Congrats on winning. That's a hard game to beat. I played it years ago on my phone. Since its on PC now, I will have to add it to my wishlist to buy later.

Thank you! It was tough and took quite a few tough learning experiences to figure out the tactic! The thing I love about this game most is that there are multiple strategies per virus to make it to completion! Super awesome for replayability!
