i keep seeing great reviews of this game and it always ends up on top lists when referring to Genesis / Mega Drive. I was extremely into video games during those days, probably the most I have been ever in my life yet somehow managed to miss this one entirely. It does look great though!

Sega released this one at a time when they were like an octopus - spreading focus on a ton of things - 32X, Saturn coming, Sega CD (Genesis and 32X support), the Sega CDX portable/walkman thing, etc.

They were not really advertising much during this period unless it was "next gen" like 32X so titles like Vectorman 1 and 2, Comix Zone, etc all fell to the wayside - maybe one page ads in one issue of one magazine and done. Meanwhile, they would buy multiple pages of ads across many mags for the 32X for some reason.

They clearly forgot who brought them to the dance when Comix Zone was released. It is sad too because this could have easily become a franchise for them - imagine pairing this engine with the X-Men or Batman license (both of which Sega had around this time, at least for 16-bit titles).

It is a great game and there simply is nothing else like it. You either love it or don't play video games. I have yet to find anyone that is discouraged by Comix Zone, outside when they find out there is nothing else like it and this was a one-hit wonder.

I played a demo of it on PC at the time, and I thought it was great.

A very underrated classic! I finished this in a week spending 2 hours a day on it.
