Telenet Shooting Collection Finally Coming to Steam

in Hive Gaming2 months ago

Four classic 16-Bit scrolling shooters are coming to Steam in one collection called the Telenet Shooting Collection. This is great news if you were a gamer in the early 16-Bit days or are a fan of scrolling shooters. Avenger, Granada, Gaiares, and Psychic Storm are a part of this collection. How these titles are being released is unique but fits with how gaming is today.

Four Classic Shooters for Fans to Relive the Glory Days

Granada and Gaiares are both reportedly based on the Sega Genesis versions. Avenger and Psychic Storm are based on the PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16 in North America) releases.

Of this set of four titles, only Gaiares is a side scrolling shooter, the others are overhead shooters. I am a fan of either depending on the game. I have only played Gaiares from this collection way back on the Sega Genesis, I could only get one game at a used gaming store, so I ended up going with Thunder Force III on Genesis, but Gaiares has haunted me for years.

Unique Release Method

The Telenet Shooting Collection will reportedly be a free download requiring fans to purchase titles individually inside the app. This is part of how modern gaming works.

Each game in the collection will be available as Downloadable Content (DLC) for about $5. Personally, I like this method better than the one price and you get all four games because I am only really interested in legally obtaining Gaiares from this collection.

If they were to price this at $20 then I would definitely be wary of purchasing it. There are so many titles that I want but they are tied up in collections for $20+. Considering I am only interested in one or two at most, it is hard to justify buying the bundle.

Plus, versus what these games cost on consoles, $5 each is a steal. Telenet Shooting Collection on Nintendo Switch is $36, on sale down from $45 for the same four games. Pricing of individual Sega Genesis games is around $8 on Nintendo Switch Online – Sonic the Hedgehog, Columns II, Gaiares is $12 on sale down from $15, and the same for [Granada]) https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/granada-switch/).

The Telenet Shooting Collection option on Steam is a much better deal, launching on November 10th.

What is your opinion on this release style? Do you care to have to download another app to enjoy these games or would you prefer they simply be release directly onto Steam?

I prefer both as long as there is a demand. I never liked Steam demanding my online connection to play.

I am the same, depends on a few things but I am a fan of either style. I tend to lean towards overhead scrolling shooters, especially when playing on mobile.
