Wild Columbine bloom in the morning dew. I always like to start my garden posts with a nice flower pic🌻
In the garden, this week was all about planting! Our seedlings have been patiently waiting and growing in our garage. According to the locals with more knowledge of the weather than me, the last frost date has finally past.
Here is a nice tomato grown from seed and ready to plant.
I built some tomato cages with steel fencing.
Pretty simple. Cut to length, then bend over ends to make a hook and "zip" the fence back together. The tension is enough to hold the tomato cages together but I crimped a few of the ends a little tighter just to be sure. The math is circumference = 2 Pi r or Pi D. I was looking for about a foot across so I used 3 foot lengths of fence.
Here are some enclosures waiting to be placed over their tomato plant.
Looks like tomato prison! Maybe garage under grow lights was not so bad 🤣
Next up - peppers 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️. We planted three types of peppers - bell peppers, jalapeno, and mini sweet peppers. These were all started from seeds.
We were adding top soil as we went. Mixing in some fertilizer. Plus under the tomatos we buried some banana peels.
Happy newly planted pepper 🙂
Now a few updates - the raspberries we planted 3 weeks ago are growing like crazy 😍
The blueberries are doing well also but are very hard to photograph ☹️
We are planting all the flowers that don't fit in the garden in beds around the yard. More on our flower beds in a later post.
Bonus pic: Honeysuckle blooms in the rain.
There is a lot of honeysuckle growing on the edge of the forest near our garden. Its beautiful and smells lovely right now 😋
Hope you enjoyed this weeks update. Off to town to buy some straw to cover some of the beds and a few more things to get in the ground mostly squash, pumpkin and cucumbers. See you next week!
You have been busy! It all looks healthy and happy! I should get a tomato plant. I will regret it later this summer if I don't.
Its like the apple tree saying "the best time to plant an apple tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is today" Never too late to grab a tomato plant. I've been seeing tomato plants in pots at stores that are like 2 plus feet tall and already blossoming 🙂
I'll probably get one, and the squirrels and chipmunks and raccoons will probably destroy it, like they have in the past, but spring is such a hopeful time.

I give her a 10.0 for style. 10.0 for nice greenhouse. But have to mark her down for effectiveness of actually watering the plants lol
A very good start by the looks of things. We’ll be interesting to see how it evolves. We’ve set up a vegetable pod in our garden this year and have got it going already.
Thanks. 🤞 we get some vegetables. Good luck with your veggies 🙂
