Warm greetings fellow plant and garden lovers! πππβ¨π€
Even though I live in far East Big Island, Hawaii, and we don't have any strongly pronounced seasons, winter still tends to be a bit cooler, especially at night, with shorter days, and the sun is quite a bit lower in the sky. As the sun begins to move higher in the sky, and the day length and sun intensity increase, plant growth also begins to increase notably.
Today's update is comprised of photos from the fenced garden, my nursery, and an area along a grassy throughway that I'm beginning to prepare to plant. Gardening here is not neat or tidy, and it's particularly easy, regardless of the climate.
There are many very fast-growing species often termed 'weeds', though everything has value to me, it's just that some plants can't be in certain locations. There is a local joke about this. "What's the most amazing thing about living in Lower Puna?" Everything grows so fast! "What's the most challenging thing about living in Lower Puna?" Everything grows so fast! You get the idea. Gardens require a lot of maintenance out here, or they disappear into the jungle, and quite quickly!
Many plants in the fenced garden are beginning to take off in growth, like my tuslsi/holy basils, poha berries, pineapples, taro, and tomatoes, among others. We're still in the process of preparing and planting more areas in the garden, to make use of as much space as possible.
These are my Kapoor tulsi/holy basil. Look at these beauties! They've positively exploded with growth!
The ramgoat dashalong is beginning to flower more profusely again. This is a close relative of damiana, that is a fantastic medicinal that I use in my medicinal tea blends.
All my Rama tulsi are really filling out nicely, and They're beginning to flower more heavily. We've been putting old hala mats in the garden to keep weeds down.
A big Krishna tulsi next to an even bigger Vana tulsi.
These beds are slowly getting more definition. We just put the tree trunks there today. There are various medicinals (pineapple sage, iboza, chasteberry, Rama tulsi, and Krishna tulsi) on the left of the tree trunks, and red casaava and taro on the right side of the grass. A good swath of taro can also be seen in the far left.
A view from the opposite direction.
A good view of one of the taro beds, with pineapples on the far right along the fence, and all-purple sugarcane visible just to the left of the taro.
Some of the pineapples are beginning to fruit! Aren't they beautiful?
The mugwort that I planted in the far corner is doing quite well, and is beginning to spread nicely.
A view showing the pineapples on the left, and taro on the right.
Two different varieties of sugarcane can be seen on the right, as we look downhill toward Kana's 100+-year-old Balinese teak house.
Several Rama tulsi can be seen in the beds on the left and right, amongst the hala mats. There are Krishna tulsi in both too, but they're a bit harder to see with their darker foliage. The large leaves of a tree tomato can be see in the far left.
The poha berry are exploding all over the place!
Looking uphill toward the leaning papaya.
My patchouli plants are filling out nicely. These also see themselves about here and there.
A pretty broad view of the garden, from outside the fence.
Here's one side of my nursery. I need to devote a lot of time in here soon, as there is so much to do!
A view from the other side of my nursery. I have so many cool plants in here, but it's getting a bit wild!
I cleared this area of cane grass yesterday, in preparation to plant several of my multitudinous Coleus varieties. This is just one little section. I have both sides of rhe grassy throughway to clear and plant.
Looking farther down the way. I'm going to clear and plant Coleus down this whole side.
This is the other side of the throughway, that I'm also going to be clearing cane grass and planting Coleus. They're not visible in this photo, but there are two peach trees (yes, in Hawai'i!) planted on this side that are growing extremely quickly.
That brings me to the end of this early-April garden update! I hope y'all enjoyed the tour! I'm a bit disappointed that I missed the deadline for the Garden Journal posts, but all good, I'll flow with it! Have a glorious garden week ahead! Until next time! π π π β¨ π€
All photos were taken with my Motorola G Power Android Phone.
Thank you all so much who have helped me get to where I am today, and allowing me to share more of the beauty and magic from my life and my world with you, and for your continuous appreciation and support! I am truly deeply grateful! πππβ¨π€

Totally love your garden updates! Looks to me like you guys are self-sufficient there in terms of food plants. It would be great if more communities like this are built all around the globe. I have yet to hone my gardening skills and my knowledge of the different plants, esp. the edible ones. I'd love to someday have my own place too with my own little garden. Inshallah! Enjoy your weekend :D

Thank you very much @iamraincrystal! Well, the garden itself is pretty small, and there aren't quite enough food plants to sustain the whole community yet, this is also a 16-acre food forest, so there are all sorts of fruit trees and other edible plants scattered all over the propery, so we wouldn't starve. Communities like this are how we're going to get through the challenging times coming. Developing a connection with and understanding of plants is very, very useful indeed! You can have that, if your desire is strong enough! Thank you again! π π π β¨ π€

Wow, your garden is doing amazingly well. Those once that grow to fast which is not needed in the farm will be removed.
Thank you so much @ijelady! It's coming along, better and better all the time! Weeding is a constant job, that is for sure! π π π β¨ π€
That is true. I did weeding last 2 weeks for some part and am go6 again this week
Yes, we have to weed at least every two weeks or the garden begins to disappear! π π π β¨ π€
Honestly, we need to
