April Challenge

Planting Lemongrass and Cauliflower

Early April I planted some stalks of lemon grass and cauliflower too. Because I was busy at work, I gradually planted a few stalks of lemongrass. Most importantly, no soil was left neglected. The land should be planted with useful plants. When I have free time, I will clear the empty land next to my house, then plant some lemongrass stalks.

By planting lemon grass, the weeds will not grow, there are only weeds that are easy to remove that will grow around the lemongrass, when the lemongrass plants start to grow, the weeds will lose their growth.

I also bought cauliflower seeds, cauliflower is quite expensive in my city, so I took the initiative to plant cauliflower. Although cauliflower likes habitats with cool and humid weather, I will try to grow it in my area where the weather is hot.

I planted cauliflower with sandy soil mixed with burnt waste soil. This soil is rich in minerals which are good for plant growth.

I will destroy the large pieces of land with a machete, so that the soil is smaller and easily absorbs water.

This mixed soil, then I put it in a pot and also a polybag. I can't plant in direct soil, because my chickens will damage the plants.

After all the polybags were filled with soil media, then I planted the cauliflower.

After all the cauliflower seeds were planted in polybags, I immediately watered them with fish pond water. Fish pond water has a cooler temperature, newly planted plants will be able to adjust to this hot weather. I wonder if this cauliflower will grow and bear fruit in my area.

Circumcise the rambutan tree

Apart from planting, I will also take care of some of the fruit trees in my garden. Some of my rambutan trees have flowered profusely and will usually start harvesting in early August.

But there is one tree that hasn't flowered yet, I will trim this rambutan tree that hasn't flowered yet. So that in a few weeks it will flower.

IMG20230407100927.jpg

The trick is to scrape the bark of the rambutan tree, in one tree there are three stems, I will circumcise these three stems. Peel the bark of the rambutan tree, about one inch from the ground. Peel the skin of the stem in a circle to reveal the cambium.

After that, leave the tree trunks, usually during the fruiting season, the circumcised rambutan trees will start to flower. A few months ago, I also circumcised an avocado tree. I planted this avocado tree from seed and it didn't bear fruit when it was almost three years old. But after I got circumcised, the avocado tree started to flower and now the fruit is quite big. This is the first fruit.

I went around the garden and found some fruiting banana trees.

I will remove the flower part, so that the bananas grow faster and the bananas are bigger.

Harvest

The most awaited thing by all garden lovers is the harvest. I'll be harvesting wild spinach and kale for a side dish later this afternoon. I also saw a bunch of yellow bananas, I will cut them down.

Wow! You have planted a lot of lemon grass. Hopefully they will grow in time together with your cauliflower.

Rambutan fruit in our place already gave us it's fruit and it's almost gone. But yours is the original season of rambutan who gave fruits in july-september.

Our city, Binjai, is known as the city of Rambutan in Indonesia. Usually, the rambutan fruit will start to be harvested in July-August, sometimes it will bear fruit again in December. Some rambutan trees in my garden bear fruit twice a year, namely in March and December, starting to flower @jenthoughts

Same here the rambutan bear fruits in March and the fruits almost gone this time. Lansones follow.

I love the hard work in raising these seedlings. Thanks so much.

You are welcome and thanks for positif feedback @jude9
