A mini melon crop and other things in the garden.

in HiveGarden2 years ago

Many weeks ago I planted some seeds of melon, patilla (watermelon) and bananas in the land where we have our greenhouse crops, there were not many, probably 12 seeds scattered in a small area. Although we did not do it for commercial purposes, but for our home consumption and to experiment how sweet these fruits could be with the water we use, and to see how affected they are by the pests of the area.

The plants look very good and healthy, the fruits are growing more and more every day and the truth surprises me the size and the amount of flowers that a single plant has in its useful life.

I honestly do not know how to differentiate between melon and watermelon plants, but at first glance you can see it in the leaves, however they are so close together that I do not know which are the fruits of watermelon, I do not know if they are growing melons and small watermelons.
Each plant has more than 15 flowers, and like any novice farmer I thought that a melon plant could only bear two fruits, however I counted more than 15, a number that left me with my mouth open, I never imagined that a few seeds would become these plants and be so productive.

The fertilizer treatment was simple, water, a little 15-15-15 (NPK) formula, organic fertilizers such as worm humus in small quantities. But mostly water, which is fresh and we have it dammed in a lagoon for irrigation.
We do not use any kind of insecticide on them, only on one occasion and it was systemic so that the plant is poisoned with biological products that do not harm the flowers, and kill the sucking insects that feed on their sap.

For pest effects you can notice how there are millions of white flies on the leaves, and on the underside of the leaves, however the engineers who visit us assure that they do not affect the fruit, but shorten the life of the plant. The only insect that affects this type of crop is the white fly, no worms as far as we have seen, and so far there are no bacteria or viruses on the leaves, just simple sunburn spots.

The melon is in front of a cilantro crop that is beginning to emerge, we know that both crops are not affected by pests that can kill the plants before they are harvested, but we want to see if fungal disease affects them both as is the case of alternaria.

In other news, we are experimenting with an open field crop, with flood irrigation, we want to test how profitable it could be here and see how it is the best management for the corn and tomato crop.
In the next few days I will be able to show you, when transplanting the tomato seeds into the ground.

I envy your water melon fruit. I wish I could plant some melon this coming summer (March). Have a nice day ahead.

Thank you very much, when they are bigger, I will show the change.

Dam you have lots of work, I may have missed but does that Mellon have pests? Looks like black spots?

I really hope to grow watermelon this year

The white specks are whiteflies or white mites, they feed on the sap and weaken the plant. The black dots are eggs and other types of flies.

At microscope level they look amazing

This is absolutely amazing! And your melons are incredible😍 Such abundance... I wish you every success with your yields this year. I'd love to see more of your posts @wesp05 !PIZZA !ALIVE

Thank you very much for your wishes, I'm really glad you like it. I love to know that there are people like you who like my posts.
Soon I will bring new things, as soon as I have a little more time, the life of a farmer is very busy.
I send you a hug, happy day.

I sense from your post that you are very very busy indeed... you have a nice scale operation there. Would love to see what comes next... I hope to see another post of yours on Thursday for the final week of the GROVID Dreemport Challenge 🙌 !ALIVE and hugs 🤗

@wesp05! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @samsmith1971. (4/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.

What does the challenge consist of?
I don't know if you know, but my family and I have greenhouse crops, and this is the last week of work in one of the paprika crops, the harvest is over.
So the next job is to remove the wires that hold the plants, pull the plants out of the ground, disinfect the environment of the pest and let the soil rest for about 30 days.

Wow that is interesting! I am not sure what the final challenge is but it is always a writing challenge... and the theme will be around growing and plants/crops etc... if you look out for @bluefinstudios post tomorrow sometime I think... (look for the GROVID post) it will tell you what you need to share this week in your post. You can write the posts any day of the week in Hive but just make sure you only enter it in Dreemport on Thursday between 4am UTC and midnight UTC so that all of the GROVID challenge posts can be reviewed by the public together and ranked against each other. You will also gain Dreemport tokens for sharing in Dreemport🤗

Whoa! Your melon fruits are growing beautifully and very fruitful too! I wish you could grow them here too, unfortunately, they don't survive because the temperature here is much colder. Your farm looks vast and your irrigation got me really curious :)

Thank you very much, here it is the opposite, the temperature is very hot, up to 33° C, but the vegetables and fruits grow excellently.
We have a little more than 1 Hectare distributed in several points, land a little bigger than others and there we have greenhouses.

I have uploaded many posts regarding my paprika, tomato and coriander crops.

It's great to see plants growing excellently despite the hot temperature. Thank you for sharing your post and I'm going to give it a visit now :) Have a great weekend to you.

WOW! What to say... Ghad I lived half my life in the city and seeing those looks amazing!

Thank you, I also live in the city. However, since I was a child I used to go on vacations to the countryside and I became very familiar with it, so now that I am an adult I work in the countryside and I love it.
The life and the atmosphere in the countryside is very calm and it all comes down to the same thing every day.

Your melons are so big and healthy, wow.

I can't imagine how much work you had to put.

The truth is that it has been a long road, there are weeks when I disappear from the blog because it is really a lot of work. But I like it and little by little we are growing.
Thank you<3

Wow, that is crazy, my mother always has a farm and I know how much work it takes.

Kudos to you.

Very interesting post @wesp05, very informative, and a lot of pictures lol.
That is the thing with commercial farming, we have loads of farms and ranches around where I live. Love the smell of them right after fertilizing, especially on the motorcycles.
This post was obtained through Dreemport.

Thank you very much, you know although it sounds funny the compost here is a kind of compost that smells like chocolate, something very nice.
I have a motocross bike, and I love riding on these trails even more.
