Hive blog 23: A bit of Chinese influence in Philippines

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY2 years ago (edited)

Hello there hiver friends ☺️🐯

Every Chinese New Year, here on the Philippines we honor the new year of the Chinese people an it is a legal holiday here. It is not new and we are actually welcoming it with a festive air but not as much as the real Chinese people.

Malls are usually decorated with lanterns and if what Chinese animal sign it falls, a statue is one of the decor. It is the star actually.

The tiger is brought here to entertain the mall goers. It looks heavy in brass color.

We had a little fun with my friends taking a pose here. On the day of the new year there was a dragon dance. If merchants put angpao on their shop entrance the dragon dance is perform inside their stores. There was a loud banging of the cymbals and gong synch with the dancing. It was quite festive to watch, just had to bear the loudness. If you don't like that then you must not click the video here. Its loud.

That was how we celebrate Chinese New Year. We also had fireworks at night but I did not bother to go out to watch the display. You can tell that this celebration is only felt at malls but for most Filipino households, it is not celebrated. We don't do like how we celebrate it in the Jan. 1rst when we gathered of and had our mega Noche Buena.

The influence of Chinese here is seen as normal. We somehow believe what they believe into like making noises as we faces the dawn, firecrackers, though it is now prohibited in to avoid accidents. Fireworks still works and it was quite awesome as I peaked through the window.

Happy Chinese New Year. I just don't know how to great the way they say it. I always heard a 'gong hei fat chai' ,but not sure what it means so I don't use it.

Anyways, may the year of the Tiger brings us goodness, good health, peace and love.
