The crazy Hash House Harriers clothing

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY3 years ago

If you ever attend a Hash event anywhere in the world there are a few things that are going to stand out right away: These people are a fun loving bunch and also the clothing that they wear on these events look ridiculous.

Even the shirts that are commemorating a certain event are absurd: I refer to those such such as the "ballbreaker" which is a half-marathon with 3 beer breaks where you can only get top awards if you drink an entire beer (not pour it all over yourself) before you proceed. These events are quite the accomplishment but still the shirts made to commemorate it are intentionally silly.

These shirts normally are not something you would want to wear around your kids (unless they too are Hashers) or your parents (same story) because they are intentionally offensive as are most of the names assigned to members of the Hash.

No one in our crew locally or anywhere I have ever been on a Hash run around the world have any sort of fashion sense, or at least that is the case whenever we are on a group outing. Most of the guys in our kennel here wear almost exclusively HHH clothing, even when they are not on Hash events.

A big part of the reason why we do this wasn't so evident to me at first but I think it has a little something to do with the fact that there is already so much in life that we have to take seriously and be all "adulty" about, and well, going to the Hash is kind of a break from all of that. Also, you no longer need to concern yourself with coordinating outfits and having nice clean shoes because if you do these things at an event you will actually be penalized for doing so.

We are a silly team and as such, we expect the members to adhere to our rather outrageous dress code.

Any responsible Hash chapter around the world will actually have a Haberdasher at the events and this is merely a mobile clothing shop for your to commemorate your intention to be one of us by purchasing a very reasonably priced t-shirt. This shirt will be about an event that you did not attend and were not any part of but it is a right of passage and you should go ahead and shell out the $6 or so that is charged for them.

Chances are the Hash isn't even making any money on this anyway and if they are, it is so small that it can basically be ignored. The Hash isn't about making money, it is about taking in enough money to cover expenses and MAYBE have a little bit left over to go into the Hash vault to pay for future events. No one is getting rich off of this.

There is a good chance your purchase will be applauded and that will be the preliminary step to you becoming a full-fledged member. Later on, once you have a Hash Name, it will be featured on the shirts depending on if you participate in certain events.

All in all, this clothing is kind of inappropriate for public environments since most of our names are offensive enough to get you kicked out of a school zone for wearing it but in the meantime, enjoy your absurd outfit as it has become a bit of an unofficial contest around the world to see who can be the most outrageous.

It is pretty refreshing to hang out with a bunch of people who are mostly in the 40's-70's and everyone gets to act like little kids. We all want to do so more often but society says we are not allowed to. We disagree and that is why we love it so much :)

you are correct, but the person who is in the picture doesn't like to have his name or likeness put online so we'll just leave it at that.

Well, I think as long as the "Woke Police" don't target you, you'll be just fine. They are a dangerous bunch though.

Thankfully for the most part that sort of crap doesn't exist in Thailand outside of a few foreigners here and there and with them, the probably wouldn't be invited to come to our events anyway.
