RE: $2 big breakfast in my hood in Da Nang

There are certain restaurants that advertise American portions and the funny thing is, the portions they give are huge compared to what you would get at an Asian restaurant, it still isn't anywhere near what you would receive at just a stock standard place such as Applebees in USA>

Oh wow, I can only imagine! It's crazy because having never really been out of the US, it just seems normal to us. If they thing restaurant portions are huge they should go hang out on a farm sometime and see how those folks eat!

You are not wrong about the farmers. Most of my extended family and both sets of grandparents were farmers and I remember the absolute mountains of food that they would have for all of their meals. To be fair to the farmers though, they worked extremely hard and worked very long hours so they needed a lot of fuel. I can't imagine what it was like for my grandparents when one of them would get sick because the cows and crops are not going to wait for you to get over the flu!

My aunt and uncle live on a farm and I remember working there in the summer. I would be stuffed full and my aunt would keep piling helpings on my plate!

the sheer amount of mashed potatoes that my grandma would make for every meal was unbelievable, and there was rarely any leftover. It was amazing to me how much my uncles were capable of eating. They never got fat though, not until they stopped farming. They are all gigantic now because after the work ended, the habits continued.

I love mashed potatoes. That sounds like heaven to me! I can see that with them not being active anymore.
