looks like a pretty awesome place! I hope you guys can get there soon!

We've heard only good things from the distant Cambodian family members that live there. This is also good because it will be cheaper to buy through friends of friends than through local land hawkers and real estate agents. Plus, being near the Thai border means as we get older, if we need modern medical care, it will be a hop, skip, and a jump away.

This way we can have the simple laid back life of Cambodia, but can take what modern things we need from Thailand. Also, my wife will be able to get a special ID card allowing to cross the border freely into the neighboring Thai province.

Hi hi.. Justin.. wow.. first of all, this is a rare picture of you not wearing your turban. Wow.. it's quite cool that you can get a property for 7000 USD. In the future, these lands that you have bought would definitely be worth a lot. Population growth and Cambodia's economy will grow too. =) Setting up near the Thai border is a great idea... =) Then you can go to Thailand for short trips.. too. When I was a child, my parents brought me to Bangkok a couple of times. It's a beautiful place and the people there are super polite.

Rare indeed, but I even have a dreadlock swim cap too when necessary. Almost one thing is certain, the price of land in Cambodia almost only goes up with time, about the same rate as my PancakeSwap APR. Being near the Thai border means access to modern medical care if necessary, as well flying out of BKK much cheaper than Phnom Penh.

Also, my wife speaks and reads Thai well enough, and there is already a lot of Thai tourism in the area. We've noticed on the Thai border areas that local Khmers cater to Thai expectations, and things like fried rice are full of flavor and spice in these areas, also with much better hygiene, because these are things Thais fear about Cambodia.

Because Thais like to travel in Cambodia almost like western tourists, a modern-ish boutique resort with Thai-speaking staff and Thai language menus might be a good idea. Admittedly 90% of Thai visitors go for the casino though.

Wow.. that is pretty interesting.. Your wife can speak Thai.. and it is the first time I've heard of dreadlock swim caps. I guess being near the Thai border is like Miri being next to Brunei. A lot of Bruneians come to Miri to visit and spend in Miri. Now unfortunately due to lockdowns, they are stranded in Brunei.

It looks like your plan is well though out. It is just a matter of time before this plan gets materialized.. I am excited to see your progress... =) I am sure one day, your family is going to be doing quite well in Cambodia maybe in a couple of months time.

Your using metamask for your Pancakeswap? or other wallets? I've wanted to do so but have been a bit worries about my metamask getting hacked. So far so good?

I use Metamask, no problems yet, feels safe to me. I don't think I will ever have enough to crypto investments to worry about a hardware wallet because all my crypto is staked, and therefore not technically in my wallet until withdrawn and converted to fiat. But even then, it will only be in my MetaMask for a brief moment before sending to Binance.US, or other cash-out options.

Without having to pay rent, we could live comfortably off of the passive income from $4,000 USD in PancakeSwap.

This must be an exciting place to be and you will enjoy the greeneries left and right. I pray that you will settle here for good. It is also good for your family, I am sure of that because there is abundance in everything like you tend your own farm and so on.... Just a bit more of patience and all of you will be reunited in a new home!

Even though I've never been the sights along the roadside are enough that we can feel the vibes already. We already have a distant cousin scouting around for good deals on land with river access.

That would be wonderful! When I was a kid , my siblings and I used to play in a creek. I ´ve had fond memories of that even at age 4... Until now the scenes were so vivid... It was also the area where the wives of the 1st Manila International airport construction workers washed clothes when that creek was still so clean in the 60s. I know that would be lovely for you and your family, the kids will enjoy so much adventures there...for sure!

I am much more a freshwater person than a seaside person. Nothing beats a waterfall with swimming a natural swimming pool at the bottom.

Waooooo, what a gorgeous place is! Would love to visit one day, my dear neighbor ^^

It looks lovely, so now we'll be going from living on the the Vietnam border near Phu Quoc and Ha Tien to the Thai border. Some day we hope to explore Vietnam, but it will have to wait until visas and other things normalize. Thanks for stopping by.

Good morning @justinparke, yes, hope things will be back to normal soon :)

hi my friend @justinparke
I always shake my head when I see your posts, but I am impressed with the train, in my country, we call it "Bajai Bajuri"

I hope you shake your head in a good way 😁. The train tracks were destroyed during the war/genocide, and only starting running in the last 5-6 years. Service is still limited, but eventually the plan is to link Thailand and Vietnam via this new super slow railroad.

Justin, I couldn't be more excited for you - even though it seems ages away, it won't be long before you are reunited to live your best life, and I for one will be one of your ecotourists.

It does seem a lifetime away, almost not even a reality, so if it all manifests, we'll feel as though we won the lottery, sitting our $5,000 land in our $5,000 house with our $5,000 tuk-tuk, life completed for $15,000. I hope I see it manifest, but first Pov will have to be the CEO of her own corporation to get me into the country.

Wow, looks pristine. Will it be really far from "civilization?" That appeals to some people... i prefer a mix of reasonably far away from a large city but close enough to get to a Tesco if you need to do so.

The district capital is a tiny little dusty place with a few thousand people. The provincial capital is not on the radar of international tourists for any reason either. However, it's a place many Khmer tourists want to visit, so if we're lucky we can get land on the highway in what might be the countryside for only 5-10 years before possibly having a resort in what is downtown of rapidly growing area.

The rumors that this will break away and become its own province means the capital will get more funding from the government, and the place will grow exponentially fast. We've seen similar development schemes work in record time, from rice fields to a hip and young town with coffeeshops and laptops.

We will definitely be out in the sticks at first, but it's the only kind of land we can afford. We will need to take monthly trips in our tuk-tuk to one of the four major cities in Cambodia to stock up on Indian spices and other goodies.

It's a place for walking play with rainfall. I live here. I never go there. It is very nice and fresh air. I hope I went there.

Yes, we love the different weather of being a little high up, fresh air too. When we get a tuk-tuk again, we will take you there for a visit.

Thank you very much ❤️. I hope you go here and happy 😁 in family . I think you come here soon.

Wow, where did you go swimming I mean in what river it was? . the water is clean. I did when I was a kid but today some rivers are polluted and not healthy any more for swimming.

In the video, that is Tatai Waterfall, Cambodia. It is a few mountain valleys south of Veal Veng, but even though it's still of the foreign tourist radar, it's still too heavily visited for us to afford land there. The waters can be very polluted in Cambodia, but if you go in the mountain streams where there are no villages, the water is very clean.

Veal Veang look very nice place and beautiful! I hope to see it soon.

I can't wait to explore in our brand new, bigger and better tuk-tuk.

Wow, look at those switchbacks! That is crazy. It looks like something out of the movies! You know, those epic car chase scenes that they are always doing on mountain roads like that. It sounds like this is going to be a really exciting adventure for you! Best of luck. I hope everything falls into place the way you hope!

This new highway now links the district capital to Thailand. There's already a border casino there for Thai citizens, and rumor is this area will become in its own independent province. This would mean a surge in land prices and economic activity. If we can get there before this happens, it'll be like winning the lottery.

Give thanks my friend.

That sounds awesome! Could be a very smart move for you!

I hope you can find a solution... it's sad to be separated from your family due to imaginary lines on the planet... and human bureaucracy. 🙄

I hope things work out fast enough to let owning land and living on it in the near future a reality. Due to the way COVID has changed the world, it's clear we'll now need to start a corporation to so that visa reasons can never keep me out of the country. Our daughters might grow up to rebel anarchists who remove border demarcation posts at night all over the world 😁.

good choice, it is a natural paradise

I've never been, but it looks incredible, and all the Khmers we know that have been there and/or live there, say only good things about this area.
