Indonesian Street Economy in Camera

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY3 years ago

The streets are the artery of the economy in Indonesia. Most Indonesians like to shop at stores or stalls and peddlers that sell their products on the sides of streets. Though there are online stores today, more people still love street marketplaces. In covid crisis there is a little shift of how people shop. They order some foods and products online. Street sellers also feel the condition. Few street sellers lose some percent of their customers.

It is one of the mobile food sellers. It is a stall selling fried snacks like fried tofu, tempe and combro. Combro is grated cassava that is filled with chilly sauce. The grated cassava is made into balls or ovals and fried.

Dawet Ayu Banjarnegara is a traditional sweet drink made from coconut sugar and coconut milk. It is also filled with long gels made from tapioca starch. The taste is very sweet and fresh.

Moms usually buy chicken meat on the side of the street. This is a fresh chicken meat seller that has a counter on the side of the street.

This is Kopi keliling or mobile coffee shop. The seller uses a motorcycle to sell his products. He sells hot coffee, cold drinks, cigarettes and some snacks. You can enjoy the view of the street while you drink coffee. A cup of coffee here is around 5.000, IDR or $0.3.

Siomay is a traditional dish made from fish with some flour and with peanut sauce. A plate of siomay is around 10.000, IDR of $0.6.

Warkop or a coffee shop. It is a permanent coffee shop. You can drink coffee, cold ice, or hot tea here. The shop also serves some instant noodles and snacks. You can spend a long time chatting in a place like this. The seller is usually friendly and likes to talk to the customers.

The street marketplace is a place where many sellers open their stalls. The building is not permanent. There are various products available, like fruits, vegetables, snacks, meat, and all your daily needs.

A local fruit stall only sells local fruits like mangoes, bananas, pineapple, rose apples, guavas, and jack fruits. The stall does not sell imported fruits like red apples, pears, and grapes.
These are the street life and economy in Indonesia. Under photography, I can enjoy the nice pictures that I see everyday. However, in camera, the views look interesting. Thanks for reading!

The street is not looking bad at all seeing people over around to get daily food. And it seems you forget buying things on the street is a bit cheaper and fresh than purchasing food items online.

Wow the local fruit 🍑 are looking so fresh and good I'm the picture, is good seeing the street if Indonesia is neat and clean, that shows your government is really trying in that aspect.

Scenes are very similar to my family and I's former home of Cambodia. Stranded in Suriname for 2+ years, I sure miss sellers with handcarts, it makes purchasing items for poor people very easy. Here everything is complicated, the markets are far and nobody sells things on the streets like in SE Asia.

Oh, you are in Suriname now, I think the culture of Suriname is similar to Asean Country because in history, there are thousands people from Asean brought there as the slaves. From Indonesian there were thousands Javanese people brought to Suriname by Dutch colonial to be slaved.

Our village here is mostly Javanese, but the culture and way of life here is now very western, and even the cuisine has been mostly lost. It's a bit sad because my family and I hoped the way of life here would be similar to Southeast Asia, but it is more like the USA or Europe.
