Brooklyn Bridge from Dumbo on a rainy day
Hello my dear friends of the Black and White community, with this post I join the #monomad challenge and by the way I take you to walk once again through New York on what was that 2018 trip.
One of my favorite experiences of that city, was visiting Brooklyn. Anyone would say that it was the worst day of their vacation, but in my case, everything was wonderful.
You may be wondering why for others it would have been the worst day... well, that was the only day of rain (a lot of rain), and it caught me totally off guard.
Puente de Brooklyn desde Dumbo un día lluvioso
Hola a mis queridos amigos de la comunidad de Black and White, con este post me sumo al #monomad challenge y de paso los llevo a pasear una vez más por Nueva York en lo que fue aquel viaje del 2018.
Una de mis experiencias favoritas de aquella ciudad, fue visitar Brooklyn. Cualquiera diría que ese fue justamente el peor día de sus vacaciones, pero en mi caso, todo fue maravilloso.
Se estarán preguntando por qué para otros hubiese sido el peor día… pues bien, ese fue el único día de lluvia (mucha lluvia), y me tomó totalmente desprevenida.
I was well aware that New York has a reputation for being cold and rainy in winter, and I was visiting the city in September-October, the beginning of autumn, so I had brought a raincoat, but no umbrella.
That day I took the subway to Brooklyn from Manhattan and as soon as I got out of the station, it started to rain with some fury. I had to run to buy the first umbrella I could find, and then I sat under an umbrella waiting for the weather to calm down.
I was determined to walk back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge, so whatever it took, I was going to do that.
Yo sabía muy bien que Nueva York tiene fama de ser frío y lluvioso en invierno, y yo justo estaba visitando la ciudad en septiembre-octubre, es decir que estaba empezando el otoño, por lo que había llevado un impermeable, pero no paraguas.
Aquel día me desplacé en metro hasta Brooklyn desde Manhattan y ni bien salí de la estación, se largó a llover con cierta furia. Tuve que correr a comprar el primer paraguas que consiguiera, y luego me senté bajo una sombrilla a esperar que se calmara un poco el tiempo.
Yo estaba decidida a volver a Manhattan caminando por el Puente de Brooklyn, así que costara lo que costara, iba a hacer eso.
Once the rain turned to drizzle, I set off in search of the bridge. I found a staircase and discovered that it was also possible to cross by bicycle, which I thought was wonderful, but I went on foot.
There the day turned into one of the highlights of the trip. It was enough to stand at the beginning of the bridge to breathe in what would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The ropes of the bridge had an incredible body, what looked like a bunch of ropes holding the structure, turned out to be a perfect and beautiful design that drew shapes as you went along.
They were not concrete shapes, they were abstract, and I am sure that the same need of the assembly generated them, but they were surprising me as I walked along the bridge.
Una vez la lluvia se convirtiera en llovizna, emprendí camino en busca del puente. Encontré una escalera y descubrí que también se podía cruzar en bicicleta, lo cual me pareció maravilloso, pero yo fui a pie.
Allí el día se convirtió en uno de los mejores momentos del viaje. Bastó pararme al inicio del puente para respirar lo que sería una experiencia única en mi vida.
Las cuerdas del puente tenían un cuerpo increíble, lo que parecía un montón de cuerdas sosteniendo la estructura, resultó ser un perfecto y hermoso diseño que dibujaba formas a medida que ibas avanzando.
No eran formas concretas, eran abstractas, y estamo que la misma necesidad del armado las generó, pero me fueron sorprendiendo a medida que transitaba el puente.
La bandera de Estados Unidos flameaba impecable aquel día, a pesar del viento y la lluvia, y te recordaba el amor hacia su país paso a paso.
La Estatua de la Libertad a mi izquierda a parecía por entre las nubes pequeñísima, y el Puente de Manhattan a mi derecha corría paralelo al sendero que tenía frente a mi.
Una perfecta señalización indicaba El Paso al peatón y el sector reservado para los ciclistas, y si caminabas por ese lado, algún bocinazo de bicicleta o campana, y te alertaba, indicándote que te hicieras a un lado (el orden es muy importante allí).
La bandera de Estados Unidos flameaba impecable aquel día, a pesar del viento y la lluvia, y te recordaba el amor hacia su país paso a paso.

I was carrying my umbrella, but at one point I realized it was no longer raining, so I happily walked free on the bridge.
More than once I stopped to look at the cars below. There were a lot of them! But nevertheless, there was little congestion. I associated that with the same order they seek for pedestrian traffic.
I breathed the cold of New York, which made it clear that spring had come to an end, and in fact since that day the temperature did not rise again, hehe.
Yo llevaba mi paraguas, pero en un momento me percaté de que ya no llovía, así que felizmente caminé libre por el puente.
Más de una vez me detuve a observar a los autos que estaban debajo. Eran muchos! Pero sin embargo, la congestión era poca. Asocié aquello al mismo orden que buscan para la circulación peatonal.
Respiré el frío de Nueva York, que dejaba en claro que la primavera había llegado a su fin, y de hecho desde aquel día la temperatura no remontó más, jeje.

One of the season which do tend to avoid is the rainy season lol. Do not get me wrong but all the things which does happens during this particular season is indeed something which irritates me. To name a few, I have trouble going out and almost all the times the rain plays a vital role in messing my everyday schedules :) While I love to walk in the rain and at the end I get cold every time :)
But on the other hand when the rain fades away that few hours after the rain is indeed amazing. I love those moments and the cold breeze that meets the face is indeed an amazing feeling.
By the way nice images. And have not seen anyone describing the situation and the architecture such calmly and wisely as well.

Thank you very much for your nice comment. I guess that of you are used to this rain, there is a point when you get tired. In my case that was the only experience with rain in New York, so I felt blessed. But I would definitely dislike it as an everyday thing, lol.
Querida amiga @belug son paseos inolvidables, a pesar de la lluvia que para muchos lo toman como una tormenta y no hacen lo que una persona comedida y calmada como tú hacen, buscar lo positivo y disfrutar tú momento en Nueva York, de Brooklyn hasta Manhattan y no perder la ocasión para visitar los sitios que muchos queremos visitar, ver la famosa Estatua de la Libertad y pasar por el Puente de Manhattan, entre varios lugares. Que buenas fotos, que buena narrativa, me recordó la primera vez que use el recorrido virtual que ofrecía la Enciclopedia Encarta de Microsoft pero en vez de ser virtual, fue textual y mediante fotos..
No se porque me hizo sentir nostalgia si nunca estuve ahí, gracias por tu publicación, al menos para mi fue una buena de empezar el dia.
