One of the favorite places I went to when I visited Cyprus was the church of Saint Lazarus. Founded in the 9th century this building has a vast history and you can almost feel as if they walls whisper of the historical moments it has witnessed.

The church is named after the Saint figure Lazarus of Bethany that is mentioned in the Gospel of John where Lazarus was resurrected by Jesus. He later has to flee to Cyprus and after his death his second and final tomb was layed here on which the church later was erected.

I really like when old buildings like these are preserved so that history can stay alive and be enjoyed by people living today and generations to come.

The architecture was very beautiful and when you entered the church you will be surprised by all the beautiful details and decorations.

It’s not a big church by any means but that makes it all the more cozy inside if you ask me.

With the tall ceiling it definitely felt like a spiritual places and the more so with all the beautiful walls and decorations.

Down below was the tomb which was also interesting to see. It was a perfect noon activity when the sun was the strongest and you could get som shade and enjoy some of the history in Larnaca, Cyprus. I definitely recommend a visit if you go to Cyprus.

Wow - an amazing story to this beautiful little church! And I agree; although the huge cathedrals I have seen are amazing, these small houses of worship have their own charm and dignity to enjoy.

The stonework is fantastic, but the carvings in that dark wood are spectacular!

Thanks for sharing another fantastic post on Cyprus with us. I definitely need to get there at some point.

Cheers!
