Monomad: Sepia Street Scenes in Downtown Calgary Alberta Canada

in Black And White11 months ago (edited)

Sepia is a form on monochrome that I enjoy doing edits of city and street scenes with. It gives a old timey feel that to me almost ads a timeless element to the scenes. In and around downtown Calgary there is a mix of old and new that lends itself well to this look. Buildings like Hudson Bay department store have been around for longer then 100 years.

On this block there used to be an arcade that I wen tot as a child, one of many that were Downtown. The building on the far right is the edge of a church, the only building still currently in use at the time of capture in this image.

The Lougheed building is also over 100 years old and once housed the Showcase Grand, my favorite movie theatre in downtown Calgary. It had the classic balconies of an old school cinema and a large screen. If you went around the block in the same building there was another arcade. A perfect place to waste quarters before and after the movies. It reminds me of the perfect Saturday afternoon as a kid.

Some of the skyscrapers in this shot were built ion the 1970s and some in the early 2010s everything just grows together overtime. I always enjoy checking out downtown as it leads me to keep dreaming those big city dreams.
