How To Debate Religion....Without Ninja Kicking Each Other!

in The Kingdomlast month

Here's a bit of context before we dive into this experience I recently had on chain....

I'm a Protestant.

I'm a believer in the bible and the bible alone. I believe that Christ is the head of the church and that Peter was not the first pope. Which means, I bump head with my Catholic brothers and sisters on that point alone. Now if you know anything about history, you are quite aware that these two branches of Christianity have essentially been at odds since....Oh I dunno....A.D. 70 lol

Reformations. Inquisitions. Debates. Wars. You name it.....It's been a rocky history at best.

And the issue that people have, when it comes to talking about religion is.....I'm right and you are wrong. And I don't care what scripture or Wikipedia page you throw in front of my face. My beliefs will never change.

I always thought that was silly. Not the debates and discussions. Far from it. I actually really enjoy talking about God with people that aren't of my faith. What I found silly was starting to talk about any of this with the idea that you have a shot at changing someone's beliefs.

Guess what buttercup.....If you are a Christian you will know who changes people's beliefs.....God does. That's it.

So when I start talking doctrine, beliefs, scripture.....It's with the knowledge that who I am talking to, is deep in their faith and I don't have any chance at changing how they think. Neither should I have that thought.

Talking about God on this blockchain has been a pretty rewarding experience. Not on;y because I feel free to voice my thoughts without the potential of the RAGE that we see on traditional social media...But also, I haven't found anyone of my faith here, so everyone I interact with, believes differently that me.

What a blessing that is!!!

Take for example the discussion I've been having with @grandpapulse over the past few days!

He's a staunch Catholic and it's obvious from a minute of talking with him that he's deep rooted in his faith.

We've been going back and forth throwing scripture at each other, but not really with the thought of changing each other's beliefs....I think it's more of a learning experience. He's been asking questions about my faith and I have been returning that as well.

Now it's not like we're agreeing on things. Far from it. Pretty sure we've disagreed with each other on every point lol

But the point is, we are talking. Discussing. And when 2 or more are gathered.....Jesus told us, He is there.

All glory to God, and I do pray as more of these type of conversations take place online, especially on chain, that the respect between opinions continues.

I hope this continues as well as more and more people get attracted to not only the blockchain but Threads and InLEO as well. We want to talk about how this is a haven for #web3 so I'd love to see more talks about religion on chain.

Even if you disagree with all of us, just the fact that we can have healthy discussions, and they remain respectful is....A miracle in itself :)

I was raised as a Baptist, and attend a Freewill Baptist church my grandfather helped build. I don't necessarily share all their doctrines but in general enjoy the Church. As I've gotten older there are elements of Catholicism and Orthodoxy that I appreciate more.

Arguments don't change most men's minds - faith isn't completely a product of the intellect. The Apostle's often apparently frustrated Christ with their lack of understanding. We were instructed in Matthew 18:3 "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Christ didn't direct us to all seek Doctorates in theology.

I think one thing that we as Protestants may miss is a disconnect from the history of believers. Educated Catholics and Orthodox have this and perhaps have a more visceral sense of the conflicts between them and Protestants. As Baptists and most mainline Protestants - the history of the Church tends to stop with the end of the ministry of Paul.

I think that might be where I differ from mainline Protestants.

I came to the faith through revealing of history and bible prophecy. For me, history is pretty much the biggest 'aha moment' for me.

Agreed that most think things stopped at Paul. Which is sad because there is some very rich history on so many levels about our faith!

I respect that everything can be debated with respect for the opinions of others.

That's always the goal for sure :)

We all have each ways in which we understand religion but it won’t be bad if we learn from each other as well…

Every day is an opportunity to learn from each other!

Catholic or Protestant we are both Christians. Same God but different way of worshipping similar to children having different ways of loving their parents 😀

The main purpose should always be to shine a light on Christ. Anytime that happens, God wins.

No kicking , but we have ninja trust and slashing

Religion debate is not a topic that anyone can accept so most of the time avoiding it is the best way

Goes against a lot of people's religions to stay silent on things ;)

Doesn't mean we need to force anything on anyone. But avoiding it, isn't in the DNA of certain faiths.

Well done in explaining how we should approach this. !BBH

Sometimes I need that reminder, it's the best way to handle talking about a passionate subject.

You are absolutely right on this. The fact that we can talk about it, in respect is the most beautiful thing. Not trying to convince someone but to understand someone ❤️

that's the key....always respect each other!

I am a Christian, and talking about Christ on the web 3 I think it is like a taboo, at least I have had the freedom to share many of my experiences as a Christian in my blog and I have felt good. With respect to your writing, everyone who has a belief will defend it at the top of their lungs and even with their claws hehehe I believe that the gospel goes beyond many things, even paradigms. I love to talk and debate about the word, even looking for the five legs to the cat as we Latinos say, and it is not to fight for religion because I believe that the truth always wins. But I like to see the foundations of other people.

Amen to that!

The truth always wins for sure :)

Oh wow, my apologies lol I assumed catholic membership. My bad!

But yeah the truth is what will be revealed. It's not our jobs to 'convert' others. Our job is to show His character and be the light of the world....Easier said than done lol

Appreciate the discussion always.

Oh wow, there's another thing we can talk about....73 books or 66? ;)
