Saving Private Ryan

More than a film I would define it as a documentary on a terrible event for our history, a glimpse of the Second World War, which caused thousands of victims and generated such unheard-of suffering as to make that memory still a modern theme today. Oscar winner Steven Spielberg was meticulous in describing the conditions of the Normandy landings and the scenes in the film are very violent, sometimes gory, and certainly not recommended for children.

The film lasts 169 minutes, almost exclusively composed of war and guerrilla scenes in the deserted streets, the attention to military details, strategies, uniforms and set design is excellent. The reproduction of the heavy war vehicles and weapons used was meticulous and nothing is left to chance. During the landing scenes, in which many soldiers lost their lives at sea, a lot of underwater video footage was used to make more incisive the terrible images of drowned, wounded and abandoned soldiers in agony in the deep waters of the English Channel.

The use of special effects made the scenes of the film more real and faithful, accentuating the drama of the explosions and making the harrowing images of the wounded and victims of firearms more vivid. It is a targeted use of special effects, there is no excessive use like in John Rambo. The soundtrack is instrumental in creating that even more dramatic setting, hitting my weak spots and personally touching some hidden notes, causing a lot of tears on my face.

Tom Hanks acted in a masterly way, also receiving an Oscar nomination, I honestly would have given it to him with my eyes closed. He played the part of the American soldier fearful of war, putting the veil on the figure of the fearless American soldier, his hand shaking on the rifle at the beginning of the film, before landing on the beach of Omaha Beach ... is definitely one of the scenes that struck me most. His natural expressions in such a difficult role made him one of my favorite actors.

A decidedly difficult film to tell and explain especially for those who were lucky enough not to experience historical moments like the Second World War and maybe many scenes can seem boring or even funny like explosions or soldiers blowing up. I consider Saving Private Ryan one of the most successful war films and one of the most important films of the 90s and beyond.

Più che un film lo definirei un documentario su un evento terribile per la nostra storia, uno scorcio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, che ha causato migliaia di vittime e generato una sofferenza inaudita tale da rendere quel ricordo ancora oggi un tema moderno. Il premio oscar Steven Spielberg è stato minuzioso nel descrivere le condizioni dello sbarco in Normandia e le scene del film sono molto violente, a tratti cruenti, e sicuramente non è consigliato la visione ai più piccoli.

Il film dura 169 minuti, quasi esclusivamente composto da scene di guerra e guerriglia tra le strade deserte, la cura dei dettagli militari, delle strategie, delle divise e della scenografia è eccellente. La riproduzione dei pesanti mezzi da guerra e delle armi utilizzate è stata minuziosa e nulla è lasciato al caso. Durante le scene dello sbarco, in cui molti militari hanno perso la vita in mare, sono state utilizzate molte riprese con videocamere subacquee per rendere più incisiva le terribili immagini dei soldati annegati, feriti e abbandonati agonizzanti nelle profonde acque di La Manica.

L'utilizzo degli effetti speciali ha reso le scene del film più reali e fedeli, accentuando la drammaticità delle esplosioni e rendendo più vive le strazianti immagini dei feriti e delle vittime da armi da fuoco. Si tratta di un mirato utilizzo degli effetti speciali, non vi è un uso eccessivo come in John Rambo. La colonna sonora è determinante nel creare quell'ambientazione ancora più drammatica, colpendo i miei punti deboli e personalmente ha toccato delle note nascoste, causando molte lacrime sul mio viso.

Tom Hanks ha recitato in maniera magistrale, ricevendo anche una nomination agli Oscar, io sinceramente gliel'avrei consegnata ad occhi chiusi. Ha recitato la parte del soldato americano timoroso della guerra, mettendo il velo sulla figura del soldato americano senza paura, la sua mano che trema sul fucile all'inizio del film, prima dello sbarco sulla spiaggia di Omaha Beach... è sicuramente una delle scene che più mi hanno colpito. Le sue espressioni così naturali in un ruolo così difficile lo hanno reso uno dei miei attori preferiti.

La scena del cecchino resta tra le mie preferite e in cui si avverte un silenzio rombante, dove il panico dei soldati bersaglio è accentuato dai loro respiri veloci e la pioggia scrosciante
Un film decisamente difficile da raccontare e spiegare specie per chi ha avuto la fortuna di non vivere momenti storici come la Seconda Guerra mondiale e magari molte scene possono sembrare noiose o addirittura divertenti come le esplosioni o soldati che saltano in aria. Reputo Salvate il soldato Ryan uno dei film da guerra meglio riusciti ed uno dei film più importanti degli anni '90 e non solo.
