The person may have left for a legitimate reason, but I think the other person had a valid reason for not accepting him back in. He wasn't there to stick through all the hardship that happened, and there are no freebies in life. He can't blame anyone but himself for leaving when things were tough.

Exactly. There's always a justification especially when the action maybe be interpreted as betrayal by another party. Unfortunately there are consequences or benefits to every actions. There are no freebies like you've said, and one has to work for whatever they feel they deserve.
