Il progetto è stato ideato da Brendan Eich, creatore di Java Script e co-fondatore di Mozilla Firefox. Il browser gira attorno al token BAT. BAT è un sistema pubblicitario basato su blockchain, che mira a cambiare il modo in cui vengono offerti gli annunci.
