What is Aperture?
Aperture can be defined as the opening in a lens through which light passes to enter the camera. It is an easy concept to understand if you just think about how your eyes work. As you move between bright and dark environments, the iris in your eyes either expands or shrinks, controlling the size of your pupil.
f-stops are a way of describing the size of the aperture for a particular photo. For example, f/2.8 is larger than f/4 and much larger than f/11.

What is Shutter Speed?

Shutter speed is the length of time the camera shutter is open, exposing light onto the camera sensor. Essentially, it’s how long your camera spends taking a photo.
A fast shutter speed is typically whatever it takes to freeze action. If you are photographing birds, that may be 1/1000th second or faster. Long shutter speeds are typically above 1 second – at which point, you will need to use a tripod to get sharp images. You would use long shutter speeds for certain types of low-light / night photography, or to capture movement intentionally.

What is ISO?
In very basic terms, ISO is simply a camera setting that will brighten or darken a photo. As you increase your ISO number, your photos will grow progressively brighter. For that reason, ISO can help you capture images in darker environments, or be more flexible about your aperture and shutter speed settings.
However, raising your ISO has consequences. A photo taken at too high of an ISO will show a lot of grain, also known as noise, and might not be usable. So, brightening a photo via ISO is always a trade-off. You should only raise your ISO when you are unable to brighten the photo via shutter speed or aperture instead.

RULES & HOW TO PLAY

  1. For this Metadata Monday I would like you to guess the shutter speed, ISO and the aperture of the photo.
  2. Only one guess per person, per post.
  3. No editing your guess - you have to commit!
  4. Metadata has been stripped from the pictures, so don’t bother looking for the EXIF!
  5. We are not required to tell you what kind of camera was used, or what time of day the photo was taken at, or whether filters were involved (this adds to the mystery and the challenge!)
  6. For this game you have until Wednesday at 11PM UTC

SCORING

I will be giving HIVE TIPS to winners which will translate to PhotoGames points on the Leaderboard

Yeah knowing nothing about these types of images and you saying nothing about this obscure image makes me not want to play this one so I'll pass in protest.

We are not required to tell you what kind of camera was used, or what time of day the photo was taken at, or whether filters were involved (this adds to the mystery and the challenge!)

i didn't make the rules :D

there is nothing really special done to it photographically. it is straight from the camera, with some tweaking of the color and basic adjustments. If i say more it would be much easier to guess.

you aren't "required"

Fine ... 200iso f/9 1/2

You guessed the ISO but Kibela was faster, and i think you are 3th closest to the shutter speed.
But you were closest to the exact f stop as no one went higher than you.

(5 hive and some photogames points)

Settings were f/14, 2sec and ISO 200

😀

i forgot (and it was published while i was sleeping) and did not want to edit as asgart already had his guess.

I realize now that I have no idea how you create these kind of pictures :D

So just guessing is a long exposure shot: F4, ISO 100, 8 sec

F3.2, ISO 200, 1/100 sec

you were the first one to guess the ISO (5 hive and some photogames points)

Settings were f/14, 2sec and ISO 200

That's nice! thanks :)

Very interesting. I like how you play around with different ways to shoot! You do lots of low light---music and this florescent flower series. I don't do much low light so I looked up how to shoot UV Fluorescence photography
F/4, 1 sec and 800 ISO

i kinda started my photography with low light as i was usually photographing my friends performing. then i did some birthday parties for work (again in not so great light conditions). Helps in not paying that much attention to noise :)

i first thought that something on the flowers will glow under fluo lights (no idea why i thought that) but then i found out that usually nothing glows :)

and i still had colors that we got few years back for our glow in the dark make up photoshoot. at the moment i just lack flowers to continue.

I watched the video for the make up shoot, super cool.

closest to the exact shutter speed and first to guess the 1sec.

Settings were f/14, 2sec and ISO 200

YAY!

Aperture f/4.20
Shutter Speed 1/420
ISO 420

haha, nice ;)

went for the weird ones :D

420 is totally norml.

f2.8, ISO 100, 1/3sec
I love UV photography :D

you were probably thinking right in guessing but the trick was it was a macro lens. this settings would make sense if the flower was bigger and i was not so close to it.

I have never done macro photography ;) So no clue! Should try it one day to be able to win future challenges

this was macro only because the flower was small and i have a 35mm lens only because it was the cheapest RF mount lens :D and it is ok for filming and everyday shoots (macro was just a bonus)

F 2.8, 1 sec, ISO 400

was closest for shutter speed but sjarvie was faster to guess 1 sec.

Settings were f/14, 2sec and ISO 200

F/14, I really didn't expect it! :)

macro is weird with depth of field, i had no idea that is that shallow. and it is tricky because that red trail is almost touching the lens :)

Unusual thing, yeah. It turned out very nice.

ISO 400, f4, 1/4

Hello the Metadata is: Shutter Speed: 1/160 ISO: 100 Aperture: 3.5

OK this is part of your "Flowers in the Dark" series. So this is a very small flower. I don't remember you mentioning a macro lens but you do have an 85mm so I am assuming you used that one, maybe with an extension tube or something. You didn't ask for that, just to get in the mood of the shooting :)
It is taken with uv lights witch is something that I have never done but I am guessing that a long exposure is not required (after all the interesting part glows) so I'll say 1/60 and the depth of field looks broad enough for such a small object so lets say f/8. And the iso to achieve all that maybe 1000.

Nice picture by the way :)

your thinking process was great until the macro lens :) and that is why you probably did not go with more (or less, i never know is more less or less more) F stop.

it was a 35mm macro lens, and the flower was small (really small) so to try to get it all into the shot i went for f/14. and because flower was not running away and i had no light stand for UV i just placed camera on the flor and go with 2 seconds (one before or after was probably up or down shutter speed), and ISO was 200 just be low and not to long on shutter speed.

At least I tried :)

F 3, ISO 200, 80 sec

you got the ISO but Kibela was faster to guess it. thanks for participating.

HI! 🙃
Shutter Speed: 1/250 , ISO: 800, Aperture: 5.6

Hola.
F: 3.5
ISO: 200
