It's Wednesday and I'm back with the woodworking shenanigans. In this case it's all about details. Since this instrument is almost done. A lot of fine work is due. We are back with the experimental Venezuelan Cuatro. The strumming guard of this experimental design had me up at night for a lot of time. That was until I decided what to do. That wood you see there is a national kind of oak known as Roble María (sorry for the lack of scientific name. There's not much information around the web about Venezuelan woods).
Before gluing the strumming guard, we need to flatten the fretboard. These to pieces have to be aligned. Once we have taken care of this, we can proceed to glue it. After the glue has dried, we can trim it to match the shape of the instrument.

Llega el miércoles y es un buen día para mostrar mi trabajo. En esta ocasión se trata de detalles. Como este instrumento está casi listo, solo hay que afinar algunas cosas pequeñas. Volvemos con el cuatro experimental. El diseño del golpeador me mantuvo despierto por vatios días hasta dar con la solución. Para este, utilicé una especie de roble nacional conocido como Roble María (les debo el nombre científico).
Antes de colocar el golpeador, hay que nivelar el diapasón. Ambas piezas deben están alineadas. Una vez hayamos hecho esto, podemos pegar el golpeador. Cuando el pegamento se haya secado, podemos rebajarlo para que tome la forma del instrumento.

Bueno, esos huequitos son el reemplazo de la boca tradicional del cuatro. Si no hay ningún tipo de abertura, no sale el sonido del instrumento.
