Today, I'm taking you to a beautiful place - the westernmost spot on the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands.
It's called Punta de Teno and lies on a lava delta within the protected area of a Natural Park of Teno. To get there is quite difficult: you can either hike through very steep mountains of Teno (which is what I did), or take a public bus from Buenavista del Norte as access by car is not permitted.
Due to its remoteness, Punta de Teno hadn't been inhabited for a long time (if ever, I can't remember now) in the past because it is surrounded by cliffs and the ocean. Even the road that exists there now had to be paved through tunnels and is often closed when the weather conditions are not good (just as the last weekend when the Canary Islands suffered from the tropical storm Hermine).
But maybe its remoteness adds to its magic. Except for a few wind power plants (it is freakin' windy in there!), old banana plantations and a lighthouse, there is nothing to be found there: just some cacti, stones and wind. And beautiful views on the Los Gigantes cliffs and crystal clear ocean waters. You can actually swim in those: there is a small bay with a nice, black sand beach, hidden from the wind.
