I am not a big birdwatcher but you don't have to be one to take images of this heron in Kerala, India. They live side by side with people and hunt at beaches and rice paddies. They don't allow to come as close as pigeons in Europe but they don't care if there are fishermen or sunbathers 15-20 meters away.
That day, I woke up early in the morning to shoot beaches of Varkala and came across this feathered beauty looking out for small prey in the surf. There was a fisherman near mending a net. Early sunbathers were seen in the distance at the cliffside beach of Varkala - you can see it in one of the images.
I think this heron is called the little egret (Egretta garzetta) - check the description on wiki if interested.
I took these images with a Nikkor 70-300mm on a full-frame Nikon D750 in Varkala, India (in 2016) - the exact location is on #Pinmapple in a comment below.
