In Brief, A Book Launch Essay

in GEMS3 years ago

Hello, I'm @ahmetay. In this article, I would like to share with you about a book I am reading these days.

This book; Mustafa Öztürk's book, The Language of Stories. He was recently lynched by some circles in our country for his ideas. He also retired from the university where he was working and went to Germany to work at a university in Germany, albeit temporarily.

The language used in the stories in the Quran is the subject of the book. In addition, the nature of the extraordinary events in the sacred texts in general is examined. The purpose of these extraordinary events in the scriptures is discussed and why a mythological language is used in quotation marks. The contents of the book are as follows:

In short, as I understand it; the language in the scriptures is mostly perhaps a purely theocentric / god-centered language. God is everywhere at all times. And it is involved / intervenes in every particle of life in the world. Therefore, every job and occurrence depends on it. As for the extraordinary narratives in the stories, the purpose of this is not to convey that those events happened exactly that way. Since the first addressees of the scriptures knew those events that way, they are told in that way. The aim is to give messages and advice to the interlocutors based on what they already know.

The concept of "demitologization" is also mentioned in the book. It is not said here that the scriptures are mythology or that there are mythological elements in them. But it is said that the language used contains mythological elements.

While trying to understand the sacred texts with today's consciousness, it is mentioned that this situation should be taken into consideration. In other words, it is said that when looking at the scriptures, it is necessary to focus on the message given there instead of sticking to these elements.

If you can reach the book, I strongly recommend you to read it.

That's all I will write for now. This is the first time I am writing about a book here. Maybe he was too clumsy and incomplete. I apologize for that already.

Good evening everyone.
